Purchasing The Cave

So, it seems like The Cave is unavailable in my region (Japan) using Steam. Using a VPN also doesn't seem to work. Any suggestions on how I could purchase it?

 

BTW I emailed Double Fine about it a while back but didn't receive any response.

This is the cruddy side of the digital age. In contrast, a PS2 game like Escape from Monkey Island can still be purchased decades later.

If you can't purchase it, don't. Treat it like its abandonware, because it is for you, in your region.

I do agree it's a downside of today's gaming space, but I can access The Cave's Steam page and buy it.

I'd like to buy it. I have no problems giving my money to those that deserve it, but I just wish there was an option for me. This is what I get if I click on your link:

 

 

Question: Is it possible for someone in another region to buy it and gift it to me through Steam?

You *might* have luck buying a global/worldwide key from one of the steam key resellers.

 

for example https://www.cjs-cdkeys.com/products/The-Cave-Steam-CD-Key.html

 

I can't guarantee it will work, and i'm in no way affiliated, but it does say the license is worldwide.

The Cave doesn't fall into the above category as it's still for sale. "Abandonware" is just piracy, although I understand Tim's sentiments about game companies that no longer exist.

Is this website legit? I don't know much about key resellers, but it looks promising. Just want to make sure that the $ eventually gets back to Double Fine (in a roundabout way).

I don't know. You should google it and see about the vendor. IIRC the business model is that the keys will likely be purchased from other regions for a lower amount than they then resell on.

As I see it, at this point it's probably the most legitimate way of accessing the game, (unless you were to go android or iOS etc instead)
