duder
are your times getting to tech 4? In AoE I was averaging just under 30 mins. But in SWGB I find its taking me significantly longer to get to tech 4! Is anyone else experiencing this too, or have I just gone crap?
Paragon_Leon
you haven't gone crap. rest assured... it does take longer to build your econ in GB. period. I usually go to tech 2 at about 12 mins (while building up an army; without that, it'd be around the 10 min mark), move on to tech 3 at 22 mins and then hit tech 4 whenever i think of it, which is usually a LOT later since i'm fighting people.. Grimjack
Booming to Imperial in AOK would take me about 30 min. My fastest to T4 in GB is around 44 min. I think it's because of the extra techs and power cores. At 200 carbon, power cores noticeably slow things down and if you hold off on building them everything moves at a crawl. I'm not really sure how the tech upgrades stack up since it's hard to directly compare some of them to AOK.
darthfergie
Also several techs are just downright expensive!!! Have you ever noticed that the Strike Mech upgrade costs just about the same as the Mech Destroyer Upgrade which is about 2x more expensive than the Assault Mech upgrade!!! Chessack
It's also a lot more expensive to build Monuments than it used to be to build wonders, isn't it? Or am I remembering it wrong? So, apparently they have deliberately tried to make the game take longer.
duder
if you manage to win a game by building a monument then you are not playing me!!!!
Guest Stan|SCN Punk
Monuments cost three times as much as AOK wonders . With the amount of resources required to build a monument, you can build a very impressive army.
Zygomaticus
my best tech 4 in swgb is around 35-36 mins my best imperil age was around 35 mins both on easy on moderate it took me around 45-50 mins for both aoe and swgb cuz i didnt much try to be that fast i had other things on mind..... like defending my base:)
1MGxLeGion
my fastest tech 4 was 34 minutes but i had good partners to hold off any threats. but other than that about 45 minutes. for the most part if you tech to fast it will hurt you bad cause it don't give your eco enough time to boom
Darth_Rommel
I'm not much of a tech rusher. I can usually get into tech 2 in about 15 minutes, while building a forward base, and/or troops for a rush. Tech 3 usually happens at around 24-25 minutes. Tech 4 usually never happens. This is probably b/c I play against Leon alot! I try to destroy my opponents w/a quick rush in the early ages. If that doesn't work, a tech 3 *pummel drop* should finish 'em! * combined w/a quick air rush.

Guest Dr. Evil
Hey, Youre right but........ In AGE II you always did the same: Fist houses then turkeys or bushes then the other animals and then farms In SW: Some maps doesnt even have an animal or bush so dont a have a permanent strategy for the beginning of the game. darth_shadow
i played the demo and i saw a couple of preveiws of SWGBG and i would say the SWGBG is exacly like AoK except staw wars.
Schmatz
Basically, because Ensemble Studios made both and they used the exact same engine, but added flying units... other than that they changed names and sprites. I never really played multiplayer yet because my modem service is funky for this month. I play a lot of campaigns so I'm not really ready for multiplayer yet. I used to play AoK A LOT so I knew how to run the game quickly.
darth_shadow
But are'nt flying units just normal units with shadows that make it look like its in the air?
duder
no, because they can go over any terrain, e.g forests.

Especially in AoK, it was often quicker and less painful to build a wonder than to deal with having to attack a very well defended fortress. In GB, I assumed the same strategy would be useful, and the first few games I actually did build Monuments. But since then, I have generally not built them, as it is too expensive, and, like you say, much more worth it to build an awesome army and just go kick the enemy's butt. It'd be nice if they gave you some options about this. For instance, instead of having 'monument race' be a noncombat option only, have it be a type of setting like 'score,' 'conquest,' etc... then if you select that, just as it can ask you what score is required to win the game, it could ask you what amount (1000,2000,3000, etc) you want a monument to cost, in resources. That'd let you regulate (just as with choosing the score) how long the game will last. The more it costs, the longer it lasts.
