speaking of irony, i believe it was in fact a LEC game...

I think the first game that actually got me hooked on PC games was Ultima 7, a friend of mine had it and I would play it non-stop, after that RPG's are still my favorite type of game, the latest one I bought and am hooked on is Icewind Dale, which is also incredible...

It's a hard choice for me, but I would have to say StarCraft. The best RTS ever. That seriously took a bite out of the "more is better" and "prettier is better" theories of the time. Even though SWGB seems to live up to the first one.

Honorable mentions:

DF: When you get to kill Boba Fett, there's no way this could NOT be mentioned.

JK: I get a LIGHT SABER?!?!?

C&C: Hooked me on RTS. Before that it was only WarCraft 2.

Might and Magic 6: The first one I played, I've played every one since, and most of the other genres in Might and Magic.

Hrmmm...

1. Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight - First computer game I ever played, I still love it. I got it shortly after it came out.

2. Red Alert: Command & Conquer - Gotta go with simpson here, this game r0x

3. Half-Life - While the game itself is pretty good, the mods for it are the best, IMO

4. This Ninja game I forgot the name of for the original Nintendo - While I've never been much of a consoler, or a gamer at that until I got JK, I always loved this game where you were this blue looking ninja guy with a sword. You could pick up throwing stars, or shoukens, too. The first boss was this big fat guy in some kind of diner. You could bounce off of walls as well. Anyone have a vague idea of the game that I'm talking about?

I can't believe no ones said these yet!

Doom: The most influential and widespread shooter of all time. This is what got me hooked, and I haven't seen the light of day since.

The Secret of Monkey Island: I LOVE THE MONKEY SEIRIES! This was pretty much my first game, not sure how i came across it but I LOVED IT! I have to get my hands on Monkey 4, i can't believe i havent got this yet.

Half-Life may be the most influential game in the genre for years, but it really didn't infuence me.

So many to choose from. For PC I have to go with the whole X-Wing series. I have so many memories of going through the X-Wing and TIE Fighter games, then later playing the multiplayer on XvT and XWA. As far as console games go..... I must go with some PSX favorites, namely Tomb Raider, and Metal Gear Solid, also throw in the RE series, all those games bring back some fine memories.

It's hard for me to just pin-point one game that is memorable to me. But one of the most memorable games I absolutely loved and still love to this day is the Elite series. Totally open ended and you can do whatever you want, absolutely the best game I've ever played. Then came along Privateer (and the expansion Righteous Fire) which was the same basic idea as Elite, which I played for hours on end back in the day. Non-linear plot, you can do whatever you want, and the whole Gemini sector as your stomping ground. It's a shame multi-player wasn't really invented at this time, because it would've made for interesting scenerios, and yes I was a big Trade Wars 2002 fan as well.

I'd say other games that were equally as memorable for me were Day of the Tenticle, Fate of Atlantis, Full Throttle, X-Wing, and definately TIE Fighter and Dark Forces. I've been a LucasArts fan since the days of Maniac Mansion and Loom, and I still play these games pretty regularly.

Tetris for gameboy was pretty cool, in fact its the standard by which all other gameboy games should be measured...

anyone remember Toejam and Earl? that was a semi-cool game...

Blades of Steel rocked the house...

the original Twisted Metal is a classic game...

But there is still one area of gaming no one has mentioned yet...ARCADE GAMES!!! Remember the original Street Fighter, and Street Fighter II? Out Run? Operation Wolf? Marvel vs. Capcom? Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? those are my most memorable Arcade games...
