Kyle Katarn in JO

Whoah... I can't believe I'm reading a thread that started that way. Kyle Katarn die? Hell no! He quickly became one of my favorite heros in Star Wars. An interesting charactar... he hasn't been used much in the expanded universe because he's a game charactar and it isn't up to an author to decide his fate, since LA could decide to make a new game with him in it. Which they did. If he were to die at the end of the game (which he won't -- LA and Raven are too smart), I'd be SERIOUSLY dissappointed.

What a lame idea. BTW, he is in the EU...the novelizations of the games...and he's always been a sort of "lone wolf", IE never around. Besides...he's an awesome character...he deserves more attention in the EU then what he's getting.

We should petition for him to be mentioned in the NJO books. :D

What is Kyle Katarn's official EU status anyway? He is profiled at StarWars.com and acknowledged to have trained Mara Jade but there seems to be no trace of him apart from the games and the Dark Forces books. In other novels it seems that Mara has never heard or known Kyle...

They can't kill Kyle off otherwise we won't get Jedi Knight 3!

well, Kyle dieing would make an interesting plot twist, defently not something you see everyday, the main charcter dieing... if he went out in a blaze of glory, protecting the universe, i can see it being cool... but not if he is the star of JOii... whatever they decide to do with the story is ok with me...

Ok I think its time to finally see Kyle Katarn die. He is not in the EU much and he some how disappears in the NJO series.

I hope in the story at the end of JO I hope he dies.

That's not very nice! I hope YOU die!

:D

Naw, Kyle is the figurehead of the DF series! Getting rid of him would be stupid! Stupid!

Kyle: So... You like nerf steak?

Jan: Oooh! I love nerf snake!

Kyle: Uh, that's STEAK, not snake.

Jan: *shoots stormtrooper in the back* Yeah, but snake is good.

Kyle: You mind if I go to the little Jedi room?

Jan: Not at all.. I'm gonna go fly the Moldy Crow into a building...

:D Artist's rendition of a hot date between Kyle and Jan.

Death, and gone `????

You canot be seroius!!

To joint these words with Kyle----

I like him fare more than Luke.....If someone must die, then an old Hero like Luke!!!!

But it would be far better if let let our hero "Become an contend old man!" like he said in JK... :)

We should let him face mor Adventures and Action to finaly at the end become an old man with Jan as his wife.....i belive he deserved this good ending....and a good life with Jan Ors !!!!!

We've been trough so much with Kyle, to let him die....right pals???

I think it's only matter of time, when some writer mentions Kyle in EU book; perhaps JK2 will finally convince LEC to cut off the umbilical cord so that he can fly out the nest and perhaps come back some day to tell us more about his adventures. ;) In the meantime you might wanna check out Databank entry that official Star Wars site created for him not so long ago.

The one thing I really like about the DF/JK series is that it focuses on characters other than those found in the movies. The books that accompany the games are very good, too...and any book written about SW outside of the movies is part of the EU IMHO. All this talk of Kyle not being part of the EU is, quite frankly, odd. Every character, vehicle, weapon, star system, creature or what-have-you that does not appear in the movies is part of the Expanded Universe.

As for Kyle not fitting in...I find that ludicrous. There are so many plot-holes and inconsistancies in the EU already...so does it really matter?

As for Kyle dying in the game...well, he does that each time we, as players, make a mistake. :D Although I am inclined to agree with those who wish to see him settle down with Jan and become a contended old man. ;)

I don't necessarily see a problem with this series of games continuing without Kyle, however. The SW universe is so vast, and there are many more colourful characters - new characters - that could be explored. As long as a deep back-story is in place, there is no reason why other characters would not prove as successful as Kyle Katarn.

I have to admit that I grew a little weary of some of the EU novels because they always drag the old team of Luke, Leia, Han et al into the mix. What happened to the rest of the universe? What happened to all of the other colourful characters who played their own part in the demise of the Empire?

If there is a Jedi Outcast II (Jedi Knight III, Dark Forces IV :D ), then I certainly hope other new characters are considered. At least that way the series will remain fresh and interesting...while delivering increasingly better gameplay and immersion via graphical advancement.
