I don't suppose many of you will be interested in this, but I thought I might let you know in case you hadn't already heard.

Princess Margaret, the younger sister of Queen Elizabeth II, has died "peacefully in her sleep" at the age of 71.

In a statement Buckingham Palace said: "The Queen, with great sadness, has asked for the following announcement to be made immediately.

"Her beloved sister, Princess Margaret, died peacefully in her sleep this morning at 6.30am in the King Edward VII Hospital."

Thanks for letting us know. Otherwise I wouldnt have found out until monday seeing as there is a lack of news usually over the weekend. I told my mum and she also said thanks for letting us know early. She then heard it on the radio.

It is a shame though........Princess Margret did have a troubled childhodd whatever anyone thinks of her. Im sure her mother will be very upset indeed.

I wish I did know stuff like that. History happens to be my second favorite subject (first being Computers), and all they talk about is people who have died, we've be better off learning about the people who are still around...at least she died peacefully...

Yes, it's a shame she died...but at least she did not die young like Princess Diana. I don't think her death has had as much of an impact in the UK - and as someone else said on a TV interview, she may not be remembered for her past achievements by most people under the age of 40.

I think Margaret had a pretty good and full life, especially considering she was apparently involved in some 50 charities and good causes. At least she made a difference to some people's lives, whether they know it or not. If we can all be remembered for our achievements in life, we can ask for nothing more.

May she rest in peace.
