Okay so the 2 new civs are the Confedracy and the Republic...i read somewhere that there were 200 new units! I thought there might be 4 new civs cuz as it stands each side now has around 50 units per side...so i thought with 200 NEW units i was hoping there would be 4 new civs not just 2! These 2 civs are kinda boring....obviously the republic is the galactic empire in its earliest stages and the confedracy is the rebel alliance in its early stage. It woulda been nice if they woulda tossed in an extra civ like mon cal just so there would be another good naval civ besides gungan and naboo. Ah well, im sure i'll end up liking it anyways but i was really expecting to see mon cal and trandoshan at the very least considering they had a handful of trandoshan units and buildings in the first game. I see they have a wookie air cruiser in the concept art...maybe they took my idea of having an interceptor class aircraft that was good against other aircraft?:D

Your so right, I would have liked Mon Cal.

So we got 2 civs with lets say...55 units each...that leaves 90 units for toybox and gia. Wow that's a lol of toybox units. With that many toybox units they could make a toybox civ...hehe.. (doesnt hear a single sound except wind blowing). err. :rolleyes:

I will be glad of the xpack new civs, but am a little disappointed that there are only 2 new civs. That is not a lot for the money they will charge, and is not a lot as far as variability is concerned. One nice thing in AOK was that they had 13 different i\original civs and an extra 5 in the xpack. Granted LA is making new art for every unit for each civ, which is a lot bigger process. I kind of like the alien looking civs - Wookies and Gungans - just for their uniqueness and would have appreciated another wild looking civ.

 

Looking forward to more unique techs, units and wishing they would add unique team bonuses like in AOK also.

It sure seems like they are not only adding in 2 new civs, but adding units to existing civs, maybe even new techs?

 

THAT would be fine, if the rebs, wookies, imps etc.. get 2 new units, and 2 new techs each...

 

I always thought some sort of capital ship that had more than one gun on it hovering about would be incredible.

 

Also in the official LucasArts release they claim that the graphics are enhanced, like the power cores and shield gens?

 

Remember the original GB trailer? I think something along those lines, more pizzazz? If its under $30 with all that stuff in it, I will def be buying it. Cuz as it stands I am still addicted to playing this game online months later after buying it.

My thougths exactly gandalf...just look at the republic strike mech in the concept art section. It look just like an AT-ST! There wont be much difference between the 2 new civs and the empire and rebels. The republic will be half trade fed and half empire and the confederacy will be half naboo and half rebel alliance. It would have been cool if they would have added 2 more alien armies just for the sake of uniqueness in units in variety in selection. There wont be a lot of variety in the 2 new civs, confederacy will be strong in air just like rebels and the republic will be strong in mechs just like the empire (yawn!) :o

Guys, guys, guys, am I to understand from this list of responses that everyone FELL for it ?!? This is Lucas Arts we're talking about here!!!!! I hope I'm not the only droid left without a full memory wipe. Quite frankly, I'm surprised they're even giving us TWO new civs, and those extra units left over WILL NOT BE ALL GAIA, I think we all know better than to think they will be. EVERY SINGLE STAR WARS RELEASE has been half-assed-and that's the TRUTH! Look at the STANDARDS Lucas set for Star Wars on the whole(besides the games), the story, the books, the expanded universe both future and past are absolutely above explaination. Any of us who have read all that material knows exactly how awesome EVERY single aspect of it is. It's fluent, coheasive, and inter-twined like nothing else I've ever followed or seen. The creativity and possibilities are endless-yet still BELIEVABLE. I love it more than any story line that exists...and then there are the games. Every game released, I tremble with anticipation for the release date; pay TOP DOLLAR; drool on the box, open everything loving every bit every step of the way, only to play and find out how far behind and lacking their standards are for GAMING. It makes me feel as though they either don't care OR have absolutely NO Star Wars gamers in their production crew. Just people who love to play with cards. What other solution is there? Yea, most the games are decent, compared to Atari, but they sure ARE NOT STAR WARS QUALITY!! They seem terrified to give the paying customer TOO MUCH for their dollar, really makes a real fan feel LOVED, huh? I've been playing Age of Empire since it came out- that's FIVE YEARS AGO. They can't upgrade a game that's 5 years old?:confused: Ensemble made an ORIGINAL game and improved upon it at every turn-EVERY TURN!! Each Expansion addressed actual gaming desires; and if you base the AMOUNT of CONTENT they gave us based on ONE PLANET'S HISTORY, while Star Wars has OVER 175 NAMED(and countless unnamed) PLANETS, Lucas Arts not only should get an F, but be thrown the hell outta school for being so damn beligerant. ALL OF US, (I'm assuming) spend every available dollar purchasing these books, movies, comics, merch., and games and this is what they give us...6 civs. OK, ok, MAYBE they had to RUSH the release or something right? We'll bite...the expansion pack will be bad-ass nasty we tell ourselves, absolutely loaded, cause WHERE'S Jabba, or Grand Admiral Thrawn, or Jade's jedi powers, or Leia's jedi powers, or the Mon Cals, or sarlacc pits, or Royal Guards, or Xizor, or Rendar, or Han Solo in carbonite (like Gen. Dadonna on the bed-who care's 'bout him???), or ANYONE of the REAL OFFICERS from the Empire besides Veers, or Karrde, or blah, blah, blah, should I just recite the whole character list from the last 25,000 yrs? It would definately be easier to do, than understand why they spent so much time inventing new units which DON'T EVEN EXIST IN STAR WARS, instead of giving us all the units we want and love. (Let's not forget the game designing Jedi Masters, full with outside the office building btmp pics)

I personally don't care if the Empire has any water ships-they NEVER USE them in anything!! Even when Daala attacked Mon Calamari (A WATER WORLD, hint, hint) the Empire didn't use a single boat. How did they all get to create Star Wars games if they're all so absent minded and dumb?:mad::confused: How hard is it to get right when THEY CREATED the STANDARD AND the story?

I spent sooooooooooooo long trying to re-configure my AOK and AOC with patches and Mod-packs to become both visually and audibly a Star Wars Universe, it's A LOT harder than the idea originally sounds. I guess I was even stupider than Lucas Arts to expect the 'Star Wars people' to provide an extensive in depth game like AOK- at least they figured out how to get paid. HA, HA, so funny on their way to the bank. They even COPIED the ENGINE. COPIED THE ENGINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What did they spend all their time on if they didn't even need to build their own engine?:confused: It WASN"T the characters OR the civs that's for sure!!! So when this game comes out and thay start pumpin' the advertising, and that good ol' marketing team gets a rollin'; they can pump their OWN roll this time.(With their oh, we'll be swell and drop the price to $30 since we already have your $50) I can buy EVERY Age of Empires' game for UNDER $80-all of em at once (4 gms):tsk: :barf:and pretend it's Star Wars. (But in the end it just won't be the same as the real thing)

We'll have to leave it up to us consumers, and gamers to design the REAL libraries of civs, characters, and units, for this game through our FREE FREE FREE FREE patches and mod-packs. Thanks for at least making the game so we don't all have to be arrested designing a better product w/o liscense. Whatta they get paid for anyway, OH YEA, the trailers and intros that's right. Who's laughing now George.:elephant::wstupid::swear::explode:

Agreed, Lucasarts are milking the Star Wars liscence with below par products. But they are shooting themselves in the foot, if they produced top quality games, combined with the SW liscence they would be incredibly popular.

 

I still love SWGB, and I will buy the XP, but it all could have been soooo much better.

I have to agree also.

 

If Ensemble already knew the bugs in their engine etc, why didn't lucasarts fix them without the need for a patch/x-pack.

 

If you all cast your mind back to the woeful Tiberian Sun - it only improved a little when they released the X-pack, the same goes for Red Alert 2.

 

It seems that these games companies only give us half the product for top dollar prices, then release an X-pack to get more money from us.

 

With a licence like Star Wars, the possiblities are endless for the perfect strategy game - but we are still far from it. SWGB isn't a total strategy experience - Rebellion was a step in the right direction - so let's have a combination of the two?!

hehe..sounds like grand moffthoth works for blizzard or westwood pullin a "guy in the convenience store in the movie Clerks" type fasade....hehehe! You gotta be kiddin me. Here's what gets me. When news first came out about this game almost every game magazine was excited about it and had high anticipation. Even the early release where the AT-AT's only stood a few inches higher than the troops. One magaznie namely PC Gamer. Even at the early stages everyone knew it was licensing the the AOK engine; but everyone was still excited about it, saying "finally a Star Wars RTS worthy of the name". Now after the game has undergone heavy tweaks and imporvements and is finally realeased everyone is doggin it; saying "ah its 2d", or "they just using the AOK engine"... I am baffled!:confused:

Can somebody turn the light on for me please huh? Are people saying, "hey..hey..they're making too much money, this game sucks!" or "hey..hey..they didnt use their own engine this game sucks!" i am confused and also, how cany you say all the Lucasarts games sucks??? Have you ever even played Dark Forces: Jedi Knight??? Have you played any of the rouge squadron games? If they sucked why the hell do they keep making them and why the hell do they keep sellin?? Lucasarts is obviously the software company that George uses to produce games about his movie franchises? You think he's gonna close the company down and give his liscenses to blizzard just cause you *****in? hmmm...let me see...umm...NO!!! This is yet more babble from some dumb*** that wandered onto the boards! Movie franchise make software about their movies. THey wont always be the best games of that type but they make them because of a consumer demand. Judging by the number of people on this message boards and the presence of other SWGB web sites i'd say this game has a descent consumer presence, but there's just a few morons that like to jump in and stir up commontion for attention. Happens all the time; if there's a website about Red Alert some idiot is gonna get on the boards saying red alert sucks!

who really wants crappy wookie units when we should have stuff we know about not crap they made up, we already have enough of that and lets face it

THIS GAME COULD HAVE BEEN ALOT BETTER

like when you see a wookie assult mech it doesn't feel very star warsy, when you see air units just hover there that also doesn't feel very star warsy

not to mention the graphics

jedi just sitting there hacking away

the races are too similar like a jedi should cut a tf driod i half in one swing.

 

I know I am going to get flamed for this, but this is MY opinion so I can say what I want

one more thing check out some of the recent rts realeased like battle realms, warlords battlecry2, disciples2

IT dosen't look the best but it dosen't look like **** either. Grapics shouldn't be what make a game they help but don't make it AOK is still played by plenty of people and it looks the same.

 

SW:GB came after 2 dizzmle faliers force commander and rebllion. So they looked around said hey AOK is still played is simple enough and can suppoort waht we want to do well use that. If it failed then it would be cheaper and they wouldn't have a usless engine. Yeah it basicly a REALLY WELL done mod who cares not me. Becasue I enjoy the game I don't go these graphics are kinda old and few things are odd so it blows.

 

I can live with the few small thing like planes not moving around and the Jedi seem pretty well done to me. A jedi master can kill a tropper in one shot I think and really how long would jedi last agasint dozen of attacks firing full atuo? One will get lucky and then a few more they may be fast and may be tricky but their not super human. and hell I don't use um :D . But that you guys opinion and you can have it I'll keep playing and buy the X-pack.
