Rogue Nine Posted February 24, 2002 Posted February 24, 2002 Huh? Oh...men's ice hockey. I see. Do I follow it...nope not really. Therefore, I care not. Congrats in any case.
BasiliskJC Posted February 24, 2002 Posted February 24, 2002 The US still has more metals than Canada. So HA!!!
Jem Posted February 24, 2002 Posted February 24, 2002 Hey I said it on the "Worst military strategy ever" Thread but since this thread exists, I'll say it here: Canada crushes the US 5-2. You just don't mess with the hockey pros... So as Nitro said: Suck it Yanks !! This also goes for the Women Team who also beat the US in the final! 5-2 :D That was one of the most important Hockey games in history and I couldn't see it, this annoys me so much...TV SUCKS IN THIS COUNTRY !! and I will never forgive them for it! Anyways, CANADA IS GOLDEN !
Tek Gunner Posted February 25, 2002 Posted February 25, 2002 oh nos, the ugly canadians won! That was one of the most important Hockey games in history Hockey..important? did anyone care about this other than Canada?
Nute Gunray Posted February 25, 2002 Posted February 25, 2002 SO? we own the NHL (where all those players come from, remember?) Important? It was the NHL All-Star game with no Russians.
Tierce Posted February 25, 2002 Posted February 25, 2002 and besides...no one really cares about the winter olympics..thats where all the foreign countries shine...wait till the summer olympics...then you'll see true superiority
JR2000Z Posted February 25, 2002 Posted February 25, 2002 Well, remember the USA Dream Team? Everyone in the here in the US made such a big deal out of it and we sucked like hell.
Admiral Odin Posted February 25, 2002 Posted February 25, 2002 Just for the record The US totaled 34 medals beaten only by Germany by 1 in the games beating the previous record of 13. And if I remember some left wing asses said it would have been better if we let some other countries win a little more, and that we showed to much patriotism during the games. My belief why canada won, those politicians got to our players and we let them.
Nute Gunray Posted February 25, 2002 Posted February 25, 2002 After consulting hockey fans, I have concluded that the most important hockey game of all time was the 1980 Lake Placid medal game between the US and the Soviet Union. (Apparently) the fate of the universe hung in the balance.
Zargon Posted February 25, 2002 Posted February 25, 2002 yeah pretty much, US hometeam underdog's beat the overpowering commie invaders in a HUGE upset showing more national pride than ever before, and canada had nuttin to do with it.
Admiral Odin Posted February 25, 2002 Posted February 25, 2002 I always happy when the US beats the Soviets (I know the soviet union is gone but Russians will always be soviets to me.)

I watched that game. I didn't really get the big deal at the time, though. was thinking "Of course we'll win,.. we're Americans and they're the bad guys." It never occured to me that there was a chance we would lose. But then I was 9 at the time.
Kylilin Posted February 26, 2002 Posted February 26, 2002 So who here thinks the NHL should adapt some, if not all of the rules of Olympic Hockey? I am not a big hockey fan, I'll flip on the Rangers every once in a while to see how they are doing. I must say I enjoyed the flow of Olympic hockey, the biggest turn-off of the NHL for me is how often the game is stopped for penalties, icing, etc... Its not so much the violence, but fights can get annoying too. With Olympic hockey, there were still hard hits being made, but within the confines of the rules. As a lacrosse player, I play a game that flows pretty consistently, and I enjoy watching it almost as much as I enjoy palying it, and it is because of the flow of the game. The pace of olympic hockey was so fast and furious, I was excited to see the puck moving up the ice because I knew that the whistle probably wouldn't be blown and play would contniue. I just think that the NHL seriously needs to give some thought to Olympic style hockey
Nute Gunray Posted February 26, 2002 Posted February 26, 2002 I was -2. I have no recollection of the Soviets EVER being in the Olympics. I know I saw SOMETHING from the Calgary games, but I think it was the closing ceremony.
BasiliskJC Posted February 26, 2002 Posted February 26, 2002 O say, can you see, by the dawn's early light, What so proudly we hail'd at the twilight's last gleaming? Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro' the perilous fight, O'er the ramparts we watch'd, were so gallantly streaming? And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air, Gave proof thro' the night that our flag was still there. O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave? On the shore dimly seen thro' the mists of the deep, Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes, What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep, As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses? Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam, In full glory reflected, now shines on the stream: 'Tis the star-spangled banner: O, long may it wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave! And where is that band who so vauntingly swore That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion, A home and a country should leave us no more? Their blood has wash'd out their foul footsteps' pollution. No refuge could save the hireling and slave From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave: And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave. O thus be it ever when free-men shall stand Between their lov'd home and the war's desolation; Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the heav'n-rescued land Praise the Pow'r that hath made and preserv'd us a nation! Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just, And this be our motto: “In God is our trust!” And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
Kyle d'Tana Posted February 28, 2002 Posted February 28, 2002 This Time Canada have won. The next Time Switzerland or the Czech Republik will win!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Deac Posted February 28, 2002 Posted February 28, 2002 We we brits won was the women's curling. We stink at the winter olympics, but we rule at the Paralypmics. I think we came 3rd in the medals table. We had some really good sprinters with cerebal palsy.
Rogue Nine Posted February 28, 2002 Posted February 28, 2002 Curling is weird. I dunno, but the concept of hurling a 42-pound stone across ice and sweeping like maniacs in front of it is somehow not very appealing to me. More appealing activities include setting one's hair on fire or watching paint dry.
Admiral Odin Posted March 2, 2002 Posted March 2, 2002 Curling is a great game, and I like to watch it. It is very interesting how they do it.
BasiliskJC Posted March 2, 2002 Posted March 2, 2002 It's amazing what they do in curling. What amazes me is how close they could get it to the center.
