GUNNER
I just ordered a Cheiftec case yesterday. Anybody know much about them besides that Alienware uses them. I like it because it looks sweet and I got one in black. Now to get a new PC to fill it up.
matt--
Is it that one of those big, tall server towers? Those are awesome! My friend has one. Huge inside. Great to work in. Fans gallore(sp?). The drives are all either mounted in trays or can be fitted with the supplied rails. The only down side is that the motherboard tray is built into the side of the case. No slide out tray. Of course, that's not much seeing as though the case is HUGE.
Wacky_Baccy
Those are great cases - I'm going to be using one for my new (JKII) system
GUNNER
Windu, tha stationary Mobo tray is a downer as my Addtronics has a removeable tray and it's very nice but I had to "overlook" that little part. I have always liked the Alienware cases and didn't even know who made then till a few weeks ago. Now I just need to decide on a mobo and chip but I figured I might as well start at the case.. BTW, it comes with out fans. Where can I get some good one? What are good fans? Panaflo?
Eets
Will you make me a PC? I've got about *checks wallet* $20!
Guest Krayt Tion
Chieftec aka Antec cases have that door that covers the exposed drive bays, making the case look great in the process, but I've never been a complete fan of that design aspect. The simple reason being that if your drives eject for any reason and the door is closed you could damage your drives. Unless, of course, you have all slot-loading drives Other than that minor nitpick, it is a great case. Oh, and the case pictured in all the Alienware adds, while being of Chieftec/Antec descent, is not a full tower. Full tower Chieftec/Antec cases do not have the drive bay door if I'm not mistaken, full towers look like this instead of this.
OnlyOneCanoli
Nice buy. I really like Antec cases. This is the one I have right now. Not as nice as those or the one you're getting, but it gets the job done.
StormHammer
I'm not a fan of those doors either, Krayt. They might make the case look a bit better...but they're damned annoying in regular use. They just keep getting in the way when they're open...and they're usually easy to snap off... That tower case looks nice.
GUNNER
These are the alienware cases..http://www.chieftec.com/products/Workcolor/ColorDA.htm They are the blackdragon units. Mine is a Scorpio which is http://www.chieftec.com/products/Workcolor/ColorDX.htm I have heard when the door is closed the Cd and what not will not eject. Who knows... GUNNER
I usually never get into my drive bays so that shouldn't be to much of a problem I'm hoping.
Guest Krayt Tion
Gunner, I've seen case nerds battle to the death over the original source of that case design. Some say Antec is a repackaged Chieftec, others say Chieftec is a repackaged Antec. I don't recall anyone that actually proved it one way or the other, unless you have some conclusive evidence you'd like to share. I should add that I'm pretty sure Alienware does their own paintjob for their cases, regardless of design source. Alienware lists on their site that they use the Black Dragon case, but if the Black Dragon is really a repackaged Antec, are they really using the BD? I think I've filled my quota of silly conversations for the night.
GUNNER
Kryat, you have a good point. I didn't know Antec and Cheiftec made the same cases until I bought this Learning something every day.... It must be like how Addtronics and micro-someone? have the same cases. I just saw that Alienware said they use Blackdragon cases so I "assumed" it was a cheiftec.. All to say I do know they paint the cases, that much I have read about anyways.. OK guys, fans, where can I get them...

Darth Simpson
Are you sure those Cheiftec fulltowers don't have the drive bay door Krayt? One of my friends has a Cheiftec Dragon fulltower, and if I remember correctly, it has a drive bay door. Let me check up on that.
Guest Krayt Tion
Simpson, I'm only sure that antec full tower cases don't have the door. Look above for a pic posted by GUNNER that shows the full tower chieftec case /w door.
Guest Krayt Tion
Also, it is funny how AlienWare lists only Four 5.25 Drive bays on their "full tower" blackdragon case, while the link for Chieftecs Black Dragon case clearly shows Six 5.25 bays. The plot thickens.
GUNNER
The fed-ex man just dropped off my case a little bit ago. It sure is sweet looking. And since it was only $74 I figure it was a steal as well.
