Cracken Posted March 9, 2002 Posted March 9, 2002 The title says it all. Longtime lurker, firsttime poster, you know. I'll try not to be too blantantly cliche in my first post, therefore I won't ask questions like "When is the game coming out?", or "Why is there no blood?" or even "Can I play as Mara Jade?". However, I do have one question for everyone here: What is a person supposed to do during a moment of silence?
StormHammer Posted March 9, 2002 Posted March 9, 2002 Welcome to the forums, Cracken. Hope you're enjoying your stay. Here... *hands over a chocolate Jedi Medallion* In answer to your question....meditate? Do you just mean during a lull in the fighting in the game?
Uber_Saber Posted March 9, 2002 Posted March 9, 2002 Well, if it's like JK, you shave with your lightsaber...
Guest Obi Posted March 9, 2002 Posted March 9, 2002 Have you seen Kyle's face lately? That man doesn't shave.
Cracken Posted March 9, 2002 Author Posted March 9, 2002 Thanks, StormHammer. Say, what do I do with a chocolate JedCred? I mean, if'll melt if I leave it in my pocket. And if I eat it, how am I gonna prove I was ever here? If I leave it in my freezer, someone might take it. Hmmmm.... As for my question, I just mean a general moment of silence, like for a dead person at a baseball game.
Yodimus Prime Posted March 9, 2002 Posted March 9, 2002 As stated before: You shave with your lightsaber. I cryogeniclly froze my medalion an placed it in a viewing case. I intend to thaw it out when Episode 3 comes out.
Wilhuf Posted March 9, 2002 Posted March 9, 2002 The moment of silence is usually taken to show respect for someone. What do you do? Physically not much, other than stand still. This is a sign of respect. You cease activities and reflect upon the person to whom respect is being shown, and what that person means to you and your life. Obviously it's a very personal experience and everyone will approach these moments differently. Although I tend to think that moments of silence are not supposed to be about myself but rather the person for whom the moment of silence is being made. Others will focus more on themselves of course. There is no 'correct' way to do a moment of silence, other than remaining still and silent.
Cracken Posted March 10, 2002 Author Posted March 10, 2002 But what are you supposed to think about. They don't ask for a moment of reflection, or prayer. Let them ask for that. All they say is "Moment of Silence". BTW, that cryogenically frozen idea is pretty cool (PUN!).
DeathBoLT Posted March 10, 2002 Posted March 10, 2002 they say moment of silence so that you have the option of reflecting or praying.
StormHammer Posted March 10, 2002 Posted March 10, 2002 Ah, now I see. Well, as this thread is not directly discussing JKII...you'd best get your waders on as we go for a Swamp Trek...
Minimaul Posted March 10, 2002 Posted March 10, 2002 Durning a moment of silence. I like to think about , if it's been a moment yet. So I can start talking about stuff.
Redwing Posted March 10, 2002 Posted March 10, 2002 Crackface?!? What happened to your avatar? And your...post count. Oops, wrong Cracken. *runs away*
Pipe Smoke Posted March 10, 2002 Posted March 10, 2002 Speaking of the shaving with saber thing, I had been wondering whether if you stand still the camera moves around you and such like it did in JK, does anyone know? I don't think there should be saber shaving though
Kurgan Posted March 10, 2002 Posted March 10, 2002 Since a moment of silence is usually observed out of respect for those who might wish to use the time to pray, meditate or reflect (for example upon the death of someone), it's common courtesy to remain quiet, even if you are just standing/sitting there. On certain occasions like this, some people are caught up in emotion and can't help cry or otherwise express themselves, and you just do the best you can. For example, see moments of silence offered for the firefighters and people who died in the September 11th attacks. Basically it's each to his own. Some people close their eyes, others bow their heads, others just stand there quietly. But the important thing is to respect how others chose to spend that time and not to be fidgety and cough a lot, etc (or otherwise be consciously distracting). Incidentally, I loved the saber shaving, it was a great way to add some much needed humor to the game and add to its charm. Though I think that there should be a decal or something, so that if Kyle does it while he has a beard, he gets clean shaven by doing it. ; )
