Edward_Zeth
I'm really pissed at Raven and LucasArts now. Since the get go, ive had this freezing. i havent played more than 10 minutes (in 30 second increments) since i got the game the week it came out. it freezes within 2 minutes in game, evn in the ****ing menus while i config my settings and controls! i havent played any SP and MP freezes within 2 minutes, even while loading map or in the menu. Havikar
i think i have a solution becasue it worked for me. go here http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=43477
Exitium
Heya Havikar, That fix only works if you're suffering from cache-related crashes in Multiplayer. Nonetheless, good job. It's sad to see how many crash/freeze bugs there are with JK2. I mean, what's up with that? Are we just paying to be beta testers? I've tried *everything* ever suggested on how to fix the problems. Nothing has worked for me so far.

Ttam legacy
Well, since I posted my "It's fixed" remark, I've had 3 or 4 freezes with sound loop. It's alot better now............but it's still not totally fixed. I'm just glad I can play MP on my other low end system. If I couldn't, I'd take it back to the store. I'm also really surprised that we have not had ONE comment from Raven in the thread. Not ONE!!! WTFIUWT??? Cmon Raven, let us know if you know about this problem and if your working on a patch. Disrespect
hey guys , i didnt read through all of this stuff its way to much . but i had some problems too . i found a post that said to edit some stuff in my jediknight config file . open it with notepad and and make some changes . i will list a few things i did after reading them . Open the jk2config (located in the GameData/Base dir) and edit the line: seta s_UseOpenAL "0" to : seta s_UseOpenAL "1" open the jk2config file in the BASE folder of the directory, and change/ add this stuff seta s_khz "44" ............old value was 22( hz sound quality ) seta s_mixPreStep "0.0"..........these 2 cause the stuttering, change seta s_mixahead "0.2"...........them to this, to remove all stutter! seta com_soundMegs "32" seta com_hunkMegs "128".......added these myself via wolf recomended seta cg_runpitch "0.000" seta cg_runroll "0.000" seta cg_bobup "0.000"................change to this, removes bobbing, seta cg_bobpitch "0.000"............increases framerate, and gives seta cg_bobroll "0.000".........you a smoother movement and mouselook seta com_maxfps "100"..........your refresh rate here for Vsync seta r_lodbias "0"........ below 0, looks wayy better, above 0, looks worse, but framerate goes up some... this is Level of Detail area. ( try from -1.5, to 1.5 ), in increments of .5's seta s_soundpoolmegs "32"........default was 24, more sound memory seta r_ext_texture_filter_anisotropic "0".............. change to "0", then enable Bi-Linear filtering, and your ddesired Aniso filtering via unituner or something to use ATI aniso filtering, which coul go to 128x via registry hack. i made these changes and all sound studdering went away . also make sure that very high detail is turned OFF . that is a big 1 . hope this helps . now i made my sound khz to 44 . it was 22 . DaveSauce
OK, know what? Dont tell me I'm wrong. Don't tell me that I'm making unfounded claims about other games crashing the exact same way WHEN I HAVE EXPERIENCED THE FLIPPING CRASHES MYSELF. To say that this is a JO specific problem is to be ignorant. This problem affects SEVERAL GAMES. And know what? ITS NOT A VIA PROBLEM EITHER. I have ALi chipset in my motherboard, AND I STILL GET THE CRASH. I also do not have a soundblaster card. I have a hercules Game Theater XP. Perhaps YOU are using RAVEN as a scapegoat. Ever think of that? Of course not. As I have said, NOBODY I KNOW has solved this problem on purpose. Everyone I know has solved this by complete accident. And as far as I know, there IS NO UNIVERSAL FIX. The reason installing things may help is because they mess with DirectX. And tell me, what else on your computer handles BOTH SOUND AND VIDEO. After LOOKING AT EVERYONES SPECS and PLAYING OTHER GAMES WITH THIS EXACT SAME PROBLEM, I have determined that THE ONLY COMMON FACTOR BETWEEN ALL THESE SYSTEMS IS WINDOWS/DIRECTX. IT IS NOT THE GAME/ENGINE BECAUSE ***THIS PROBLEM HAPPENS IN OTHER GAMES*** Jesus christ wtf is wrong with you people where you cant understand that THIS IS NOT A JEDI OUTCAST SPECIFIC PROBLEM. I just NEED TO MAKE IT CLEAR that THE FREEZE/SOUND LOOP OCCURS IN OTHER GAMES THAN JEDI OUTCAST.

TarzanBoy
Hey guys, I was at a friend's house and I think I made a [ small ] discovery about the jk2gamex86.dll crashes Here is a link to the post I made: http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=43815 Bascially, I used cheats to summon some npc characters, and noticed that npc's with light sabers make the game crash (Desaan, Luke, Jedi trainer). Desaan spawns immediately with a saber. Luke and Jedi trainer have to draw theirs (usually) before the game goes kaput (jk2s.exe cause an invaild page fault in jk2gamex86.dll etc....) Please tell me what you guys think might help, and whether anyone has notice the same thing.

DoctorDuran
I was having the same problems with my computer that many people that have posted here are struggling with. I did the goose chasing with updating my drivers, tweaking the BIOS setting, disabling ACPI, yadda, yadda, yackity schmackity. I finally stumbled on a solution for my system. I had the lockups while loading the game and during but haven't had a single lockup since I made one small change. In my video driver properties is an option to specify the amount of system memory OpenGL can use for texture rendering in PCI mode. This was set to 5MB which looked rather small to me. It also appeared to be the problem because I could max all the game options EXCEPT for the texture detail, this had to be set at LOW. To make a long story short, I set the GL texture memory to 16MB, the maximum allowed. Voila', no more problems. On my system, in Windows XP rofessional, the setting is located as follows... Display Properties>Advanced>Geforce3 Ti200>Additional Properties>OpenGL Settings. I sincerely hope this helps some people. This thread gave me valuable insights in where to direct my troubleshooting and I've been close to chucking my computer out the nearest window. Vertig0
Dude, are you on crack? QUIT USING FRIGGING CAPS. It's apparent that your problems are not just limited to JK2 - good for you. However, it seems that the large majority of us are having problems only with JK2 - meaning that your hypothesis is bunk, so quit pushing it. I have had absolutely no problems with XP/DX/more games than you can shake a stick at prior to JK2. JK2 is the only game that is as fuxored as it is. CS? RTCW? Max Payne? THPS3? ST:BC? Etc..? They all work fine. "WHEN I HAVE EXPERIENCED THE FLIPPING CRASHES MYSELF." No doubt, you have. However, you are in the minority here, not the rest of us. Genocide52
Wow, I'm actually surprised at how many people are having the same problems. I'm experiencing the seemingly random acts of freezing and sound looping. At usually occurs during the cinecmatics but also occurs when I go to the main menu during a game. I've only played SP and MP with bots (stupid firewalls). My system specs are: AMD T-Bird 1 GHz with latest bios and motherboard drivers 256MB SDRAM Nvidia GeForce 2 GTS/PRO with latest drivers Creative Labs SoundBlaster Live! 5.1 X-Gamer (newest drivers that I could find) DirectX 8.1 Windows 98 SE Hopefully it's just a problem that can be resolved with a patch. I've tweaked all the settings in-game and what I'm willing to do on my system (can't afford to kill my PC with a paper due next week).

TarzanBoy
My JK2 problems have been fixed. I reinstalled JK2 from my hard drive and that totally solved my problem. For more details about my problem&solution, see this post I made: http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=43963 Good Luck
Exitium
I'm not sure why you'd need to alter your PCI texture settings when you're using an AGP card. Hmm, perhaps you should check your DXDIAG and see if you're running your card without AGP Texture Acceleration. Some of the new drivers (Well, everything after 23.11) has the tendency to make cards run in PCI-Compatability mode without AGP.
Phenoman
update: I installed the SoF2-MP-demo....after 10 minutes of playing it freezes with a sound loop..like jk2 or mohaa....Im getting really pissed off, it seems there is no clear solution for this problem...and I cant play any of my games....wtf is this??? it must have to do something with directx... Genocide52
I'm running DirectX 8.1 with the newest Nvidia drivers (can't remember what they are off the top of my head) and DxDiag still recognizes my card as an AGP (Nvidia Geforce GTS/Pro 64MB DDR)

TavanZafca
Hey guys, I had posted hear earlier also. I had a GForce 3 card, 64MB, with the most current drivers. Crashed all the time. I am running XP Pro, with 512MB Ram. I tried turning off the open GL stuff, and that didn't work for me. I was so fed up. I just went to best buy, for $80, bought the ATI Radeon 7000 (PCI) 32MB. The game works perfect now! Awesome. I know that everyone can't/won't go out an buy a new video card, but it worked for me. Good luck.
DaveSauce
I use caps because YOU CANT SEEM TO GET MY ****ING POINT THINK ABOUT IT FOR JUST ONE ****ING MINUTE. IF IT HAPPENS IN MORE THAN JO, **AND** OTHER GAMES, **AND** IT HAS BEEN AROUND SINCE BEFORE JO WAS RELEASED, THAT MEANS THE THE PROBLEM IS *******NOT******* THE ****ING FAULT OF JO YOU STUPID IGNORANT LITTLE **** what I am trying to say is that THERE IS NOTHING RAVEN CAN DO TO FIX THIS ****ING PROBLEM. I am also pissed because I cannot play the game because it keeps crashing from the freeze/sound loop. BUT THERE IS NOTHING RAVEN CAN DO ABOUT IT. I would absolutely LOVE it if they were able to get a patch out to fix that particular crash. But since I've never seen a patch for ANY game to fix it, I sincerely doubt that they can do it. You know, I take that back. Maybe it is the fault of JO. However, it is only that because of the fact that JO uses DirectX. Perhaps there's a certain DX file that sets off the reaction, since people have been experiencing this in other games after they install JO. But, it is NOT COMPLETELY the fault of JO. If it were the fault of JO, there's an extremely small chance that it would affect other apps....as you said, all your other programs are working fine. I'm fairly certain that this is an extremely difficult problem to duplicate, considering there is no common system component... anyway, quit arguing. You are wrong. It's impossible for a game that hasn't been released yet to cause other games to crash. THEREFORE the problem does not lie in JO and its 99.99% likely that Raven cannot fix it.
