Windows XP Compatibility?

Can anyone help me get Rogue Squandron running on a Windows XP machine?

I have the demo installed, and the launcher and setup work okay with compatibility set to Windows 95, and the opening movie plays okay, but then when (I assume ) the main menu is supposed to open (I hear a lightsaber sound) the program just closes.

Very Sad. None of my old Star Wars games (XWing, TIE Fighter, Rebel Assault, etc) want to run on my new PC.

It's a Dell P4 256 MB Ram, ATI All in Wonder 3D video card.

Jedi Knight II plays fine on it, but I am partical to flying games.

Thanks to anyone who shares info.

Maybe you should try setting compatibilty to Windows 98...? I don't have XP so I can't really give terribly useful advice....

You defintely have more than enough RAM. Way more. I think perhaps the problem might be your ATI card...ATI cards usually have problems with games...at least the one I have, where I had to mess with it to run RS at all...so you might look into that.

Thanks for your replies!

I am putting considering a dual-boot system on my PC, as we have a number of games, not just my Star Wars games, that won't run on Win 98. AND I'll give the X-Wing Alliance demo a try under XP.

I'm not nuts about XP, either, but I like my new PC, and XP is what they were pushing with it.

I have sent a couple of you Private Messages, but if they don't work, I'm saying "thanks for your help" here.

Windows 98 is much better than XP as far as games goes... i have hundreds of conflicts on Cals computer when it comes to games. XP is a flop of an OS, if you ask me.

I wouldn't say that. A flop of a gaming OS, yes. A flop of an OS...no. Not from what I've seen of it compared to Windows 98 and ME...and ME is the absolute worst (I've heard) when it comes to computer games. THAT'S what I call a flop of an OS.

XP is better than ME, definitely. 98 would've been good for games but XP is better for your computer...

I have yet to have a major problem with ME, and I've been running it since the first week it came out. Runs really great on this system, much better than 98SE did. Almost never crashes. Every game I have ever tried runs fine. I don't see what all the stink is about.

I'm not rushing to XP... I'll wait until after the first "Service Pack" is released at least.

Don't mock XP, its a lot better with internet downloads and so forth. Although it does hav some compatibility problems, I've only seen them with some newer games, and that's due to my Voodoo 3 (don't laugh) card. I was running a tri boot system for awhile, I found Xp to be perfect for a lot of things, even the burning software ain't too bad. Yeah this notes kinda late with the help category, but hey I just got here this morning, whaddya want from me?
