Gaalgoth
So a friend of mine told me today that windows 98 can only support 256 ram.....i don't think this is true, but is it? It doesn't sound right, but being that i have 98 and just upped myself to 384 ram i'd like to know.
Rogue15
it's probably not true... I had 64 before i added an additional 256...it runs practically everything. but then again...it could be true...
Wraith 8
i dont think it is true... i think it can handle more... i have 98.... but i have a screwed up comp.. i only have 32 mb.... im getting a new comp real soon.... with xp... so..
Darth Simpson
No it supports up to 512 MB RAM. After that, it contains a bug that will inform you that you do not have enough memory free when you try to run a program, even though you have. But there's a fix for that on the MS support site, so I guess it can go as high as your motherboard allows.

Gaalgoth
what are you talking about? most of my friends have XP on their home pcs........
setsuko
If you have to use Windows.... well.. *sigh*: If you use the computer as any kind of server, use win2k pro server. Otherwise, use XP. Sure, 2k is stable and nice, but I guess most of you are more of gamers than sysadmins, so then you should go for XP IMHO. And no, there is NO excuse for using ME
