So a friend of mine told me today that windows 98 can only support 256 ram.....i don't think this is true, but is it? It doesn't sound right, but being that i have 98 and just upped myself to 384 ram i'd like to know.

No it supports up to 512 MB RAM. After that, it contains a bug that will inform you that you do not have enough memory free when you try to run a program, even though you have. But there's a fix for that on the MS support site, so I guess it can go as high as your motherboard allows.

If you have to use Windows.... well.. *sigh*:

If you use the computer as any kind of server, use win2k pro server. Otherwise, use XP. Sure, 2k is stable and nice, but I guess most of you are more of gamers than sysadmins, so then you should go for XP IMHO. And no, there is NO excuse for using ME :)
