Well, they call it Pennsylvania Dutch, but it's actually German. Just think of the Amish they are Pennsylvania Dutch (German). They speak German and English, so that kinda makes it obvious.

if im getting what your saying is that Dutch is a mixture of English and German?? hahahahhaah no way my friend.

its nothing like that at all....

ik spreek nu Nederlands. Maar begrijp jij nu wat ik zeg dan? ik bedoel, als jij Duits kan en Engels, en je zegt dat het het een mix is van deze twee talen, vertaal dit dan maar even :D :D

No no no. What I'm saying is that Pennsylvanis Dutch is not Dutch at all. It's completely German. I have no idea why it says Pennsylvania Dutch, but that's what its called. I think it had something to do with the Puritans when Pennsylvania was established.

ya when germans moved to pennsylvania they called themselves pennsylvania dutch i know there's a different spelling to it though....maybe Dutsch?

Actually, I think you're right about somebody confusing it as Deustch, wasn't me though. It probably got confused back when the settlers came in, so they messed it up. Wasn't me or anybody here who messed it up, its those ancestors of somebody, maybe me. Who knows? Who cares?

1) Mennonites/Amish move to North America.

2) Most set in eastern PA, central western PA, and northeastern OH.

3) when queried as to their homeland they answer "Deustchlande"

4) non german speakers in the area assume they mean "Dutch-Land" or something

5) since they are "dutch" living in PA, they become the Pennsylvania Dutch.

History.
