Plot hole?

Okay I've seen SW Episode 2 now a few times and only today I came to think of this. Now its not a biggie nor reaqlly important but I just have to know:

Owen...Uncle owen was introduced in this movie. He owned C-3P0. In a New Hope when he bought C-3P0 from the Jawas and artoo then why did not reconize him? Play it as a cover up okay then why did C-3P0 not reconize Owen?

I'm thinking that Mr. Lucas needs to go back and watch his older movies again.

#1. When Owen is talking to C3-P0 he isn't listening to anything 3P0 is saying. All he wants to know is if the droid can communicate with some equipment. Plus Owen is an old man in EP4, and was a young kid in love with hottie Aunt Beru w00t so he prolly didn't pay attention to 3P0 back then either.

#2. As for 3P0 not recognizing Owen, it is my understanding that 3P0 and R2 get their memory wiped between EP3 and EP4. Sounds like a cop out answer? Well, I read this before EP1 even came out so it may be true.

Lucas himself let slip that 3PO and R2D2's memory banks are erased to protect the information about Vader's past and children - it would be all too easy for the Emperor to use the information in these two droids for nefarious purposes! Its supposed to happen in Episode 3 once Anakin has turned to the dark side! If you think about it - 3PO would give up all his information too easily cos he's a coward its only R2 that could keep hold of it - but then there's always physical extraction so they were wiped!

YEah that sounds like a good explanation to me then. Lets see if indeed it happens in episode 3 then.

Far as Owen however I dunno if the old age thing and forgetting holds true. Its possible but I don't think likely in this case. Who could forget a droid that you had for so long?

Besides he has probably seen dozens of protocol droids in his lifetime. Maybe not so nice and shiny ones but most likely behaving and speaking in a very similar manner. Just look at that silver droid in the beginning of Ep1. There are clearly some paralels in the way it behaves, it has more of a female voice though.

The thing that always struck me as rather stupid was this:

If Anakin built C3PO as some sort of kidlike project why did he give him a name which is a serial number?

Surely he would call him something like "Robbie the Automaton" or "Metal Mickey" :D

Oh well, just thought I'd say something.

Ummm... not the biggest loose thread to pick at in the SW films. If you recall, 3PO was a rather dull dull gray beat-to-hell droid in ep2 and when Owen buys him in ep4 he's all gold 'n shiny.

Ya wanna good plot hole? How the heck did Luke get his father's old light saber (you know, the blue one) back??

In ep4, Obi-one died with it. Luke and the rest of the gang split real quick after that. Yet in ep5 Luke has some how gotten it back! Erm... did Vader Fed-X it to him?

That wasn't his father's saber Obi-WAn was using. Obi-Wan was a jedi. He had his own saber.:D :D :D :D :D :D

Next question please!;)

Also, remember that when Owen first laid eyes on 3PO, he immediately said, "You! I bet you're programmed for etiquette and protocol..." Shows, I think, that he has had experience with 3PO units before since he at once recognizes him as a protocol droid.

couple of things

1. in "the new republic" it mentions that R2 has neva had a memory wipe (i know its EU but the books are checked)

2. lots of protocol and astromech droids yes? millions ... billions ... whatevas next up from that probably!! (trillions?)

anyway ..... we know that the R5's are newer than R2 yes? so only the D2 identifies his so we have 240 combinations!! likely? i think not!! so technically they could be different droids ... just called the same ... the same applies to 3PO (or is it 3P0)

neway thats me finished waffling on

Umm... actually, early on in A New Hope (right after Ben Kenobie rescues Luke from the Sandpeople) Kenobie gives Luke a lightsaber, telling him that it was his fathers. After the sequance with Luke practicing against the seeker drone he hands it to Kenobie. The next time we see it is when Kenobie pulls it on Vader (a little irony there, I suppose, since that means Vader is fighting against Aniken's lightsaber).

I suppose that Kenobie might have had an exact copy of that saber. Or Luke may have built a copy of it sometime between episodes 4 and 5. I think it was just an "oops" thou...

Very possible, I guess... I was under the impression that they shared the one, but hey, waddaIknoweh?

;)

Alright then, how about the great paradox of the force. I always felt bad for poor, confused Luke. On one side you've got Obi-won saying "Let go! Feel the force, let it guide your actions! Listen to your feelings" and on the other you've got Yoda saying "If you get mad or do ANYTHING rash you'll end up like you screwed up father!!" Ack!! What's a jedi to do? You have to feel without feeling? Take action, but do nothing? No wounder Aniken is so grouchy in ep2!!

Control, control, Luke must learn control!

Probably one of those life metaphor thingies. You're allowed to feel, but you're not allowed to let your emotions get the better of you. Follow your heart only when your head agrees, and so on.

Anakin lets his emotions dictate his actions, which leads to badness: the wholesale slaughter of Tusken men, women and children...

As for the droids, their memories probably get wiped.

  • 2 weeks later...

Owen did not respond to c3p0 because to him he was just an appliance. Would you comment, or even notice if a toaster you got rid of years ago turned up in a friends apartment?

The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who in the name of charity and goodwill , shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness , for he is truly his brother keeper , and the finder of lost children , and I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers! And you will know My name is the Lord when I lay My vengeance upon thee!
