Shadow Angel
This is a debate that was started by my friends and I several months ago when they convinced me to see the Lord of the Rings movie by saying it was better than Star Wars. I thought, "Whoa, this must be really good if it's supposedly better than Star Wars." Well, after I saw it, I thought it was pretty cool, but on what grounds is Lord of the Rings better than Star Wars? I asked the group of 3 that told me to see Rings if it really was better than Star Wars, and they all said yes. To this day, I still argue why Star Wars is better than Rings. What do you think? (I'm asking about the plot, characters, items like lightsabers vs. metal swords, and themes, not special effects and such.) I'm a big "versus" person and I'll probably put more up, but there's already a lot of versus threads so if you're tired of seeing them, say so. Divine Spirit
Original SW trilogy > LOTR films (so far) LOTR books > Star Wars books LOTR books > New star wars LOTR films > New star wars (so far) Star Wars books > LOTR films (so far) Results: after long mathematical discussion i have worked out the following equation: LOTR > SW Conclusion: There are too many parts of LOTR and SW to make a fair comparison but overall LOTR is better than SW p.s. how can you argue that star wars is better than LOTR when youve only seen a third of someones impressions of the film? lotr is brilliant because of the books, you simply cant judge a whole topic by seeing a fraction of a film makers interpretation of it
Tyrion
Rhett is right, you cant compare the 2.One's medieval and has magic, while the other has lasers and greedo dieing. :D

Jedi_Monk
I think Star Wars and LotR are a lot the same. They both have magical elements, they're both stories of good against evil, they both have magic wielders. That said, I have more of a history with Star Wars than with Lord of the Rings. I enjoyed the last two books, hated the first one--and liked the first Lord of the Rings movie a lot. But Attack of the Clones took the top spot from Fellowship in my list of favorite movies. Fellowship was an excellent movie, and before seeing AotC, I couldn't imagine Lucas besting Peter Jackson in the director's chair. Well, he did. Altimira
I beleive that LOTR has a better written story to it. Its more in-depth than starwars first was. Starwars has its futuristic characteristics to it, but overall I love LOTR. Plus both have Christopher Lee in it:D (look at my sig).

Altimira
I think both. Books are always better than the movies. Books have more of a potential to be good, but If they are made specifically for a movie, they usually suck. I hope you guys get what im saying. But hey, this is yoda's swamp, the threads on here are absolutly pointless:D.

Altimira
I think LOTR has better story to it. Not just the movie, the book was much more adventureous. LotR has more diversity too. Seriously, did anyone else see the space man (and satan) in A New Hope? Orcs, Nazguls, and Dwarfs, are much more cooler Cant wait for the TT to come out. "My poor insane son" - Professor Membrane -Edit- Im not dissing starwars, it's still cool.
