10 Reasons Why Neverwinter Nights is Better than JKII (Sowwie)!!!

AND WHY I'M PLAYING NWN AND NOT JKII:

1. DRAGONS AND FRIKIN GOBLINS CAN'T BACKSTAB.

2. You get to customize your own characters. Decide what kind of skills, feats, weapon proficiencies, attributes they have or even which gods they worship.

3. Way better plotline and intense stories and quests.

4. Forgotten Realms is way better than EU. (Drow are way sexier than the Yuzzhan Vong)

5. Aribeth is hotter than Jan (gotta love elven girls...)

6. No stupid n00b players to complain about things.

7. No random jumping puzzles.

8. You get to use the double-bladed sword in single player, and it's way cooler arcane than it is lightsaber. Hell, you can even use double maces and axes, or dual wield practically any weapon you want! Not to mention shields and such...

9. Items are just cool. It's nice to be able to have armor and the like.

10. The ability make new items, worlds and monsters and plot lines!!!

For these reasons, and for the oh-so-many reasons that made JKII a disappointment for me ( the entire aspect of online play, miscellaneous little flaws to the available options, lacking diversity, ridiculously obscure singleplayer sections, inconsistent single player sections and dialogues, poor AI in things like stormtroopers or bots, toned down saber fights due to hideously exploitable bugs and trends ei. DFA, backstab, whored saberthrow, have I made my point yet?...):

JKII will be hitting the benches for awhile until a patch or expansion comes out that will make the game worth playing, or until NWN for some unforseeable reason looses it's appeal. Which I guarantee won't happen seeing as how an expansion is probably ALREADY in the works and patches have been coming out consistantly to work things out.

Neverwinter Nights, get it guys, its way cool. If you want to run around as a character called Darth Maul with an intelligence of 8 (meaning that he can't speak properly, or in Maul's case, frequently), wielding a double bladed sword, and be able to use "force" aka magic, then feel free to do so.

If you want to be a crazed manic psychotic druid called "Commie Man" worshiping Joseph Stalin as your deity and running around armed to the teeth with a hammer and sickle, YOU CAN DO THAT.

Certainly JKII has redeemable features ("Hey, you there!", you get to use a lightsaber, Jan is hot... you get to use a lightsaber), but NWN has got it all!!!

And that's why I'm playing it and NOT JKII.

Sorry guys!

Comparing JKII and NWN is like comparing apples and oranges(god we use that saying too much).JKII is a First-Person shooter, while NWN is a RPG.

It's like saying JKII is better because you can aim your weapon and shoot instead of clicking on a guy and wait until someone dies.

"Drive Mode" camera angle. Let's you move your character around using ASWD keys. Much like in JKII... the fact that you have to "click on things until they die" is inaccurate. It is in fact much more methodical than that. The action is continued so that the game doesn't digress into a button mashing fest like JKII MP is. Needless to say, headless chicken style isn't a factor in NWN.

Although NWN isn't a first-person shooter, it might as well be. The graphics are just incredible, with superior lighting effects and anti-alliasing as well as a wider variety of sound. The well thought out camera control allows you view your epic battles as if in spectator mode like JKII, or as if in 3rd person.

Far more options, a useful GUI, superior diversity.

What more can I say than GET THIS GAME!!!

I have NWN anyway, but some things.Double weapons-I find the double bladed swords are too pike-like. Incredible graphics?I have a Nvidia TNT(I got it for christmas) and JKII runs like a dream. It's graphics are truly stunning. Not choppy at all.NWN,poor lighting, very choppy, and last time I played NWN,I couldnt see through my character's eyes.

Purrs like a kitten for me, but I got a Radeon 8500 LE at 128 mg. It makes a difference. And I never said you could look through your character's eyes, but why would you want to?

The game is incredibly well done and has more charisma than JKII does. That's my opinion. Of course everyone on this board will go nuts about it, it being a JKII board, but the truth is, I've played both games and find NWN far more interesting than JKII. To tell the truth JKII had been a disappointment from the get-go for me for a host of reasons - and not even the main ones. For instance, it never even occured to me that DFA was something to be whored and I liked it the way it was. The backstab problem is clearly more pronounced, but what drove me away from multiplayer was the sheer frustration of playing against humans who will exploit anything in the game to gain the upperhand and make the game less fun for me. The GUI is IMHO hideous (take the portrait selection as an example), the options are few, and there was just so much more I was expecting to be able to do.

Neverwinter Nights on the other hand I took to immediately and for which I can so far find very few flaws. It's more than I expected and it's damned good.

JKII is by no means a poor game. It is in fact the second best first person shooter I have ever had the pleasure of playing, but for many lopsided reasons. It's good for only a few reasons and is so heavily centered around those reasons that part of it loses meaning. Everything comes down to the ability to use a lightsaber. The other weapons are just not worth using. Sure, you can kill someone with a blaster, but for some reason, it's nowhere near as fun as a good ol' Q3 or UT match. Saber battles is where it's at for JKII. Beyond that... the game is less than diverse and doesn't allow for enough variation.

For this game to truly shine, there are a number of things that they must do to make it better. If they are going to focus on the lightsaber, they should expand on that and really offer everything that they can to make the saber battles better.

That's why I was really upset about what happened down at the Kaiburr Saga. They were going to do something that would have made this game what I had hoped it would be and more, and now it looks as if it won't happen. Nothing is definate though. If they ever come around, I will definately give it a try, but in the meantime, NWN is just far better than JKII.

And in case you're wondering about my favourite first person shooter of all time, it's Descent 3 by Outrage Entertainment, Tantrum and Interplay.

There are fewer servers since NWN only came out less than a week ago.

As for the point, I don't know. It's summer. I'm bored. But I think it's a great game and I think people will like it. Personally, I'm liking it more than JKII. Bunch of people will disagree, not my place to say. Try it and see for yourself.

And I've made other posts for this forum. I've been making posts a bunch, it's just that people either don't read them, don't care, or don't respond. Let's just say that this community doesn't have the same warmth that the good ol' descent community had (now that was a tight group of players, everyone knew each other). So it's not like I came on to this forum, got registered and everything JUST for the sole purpose of conscripting 1st person shooters into RPG fans. I've been here from the beginning and I've watched things deteriorate. Maybe some people will disagree with the usage of that word, but I do believe that it is appropriate for what I've seen take place. First there were the DFA and heavy stance whiners, then the patch whiners and now the backstab. Sure it can all be countered, and there are "honorable" people online who just want to play without all the BS, but those players are few and far between. I find it hard to find a decent server to play on, let alone one that a friend can hook up to simultaneously. It's very hard to coordinate a game with someone unless you're rich and have more than two computers which can run this game. So logging on to a server after searching for twenty minutes is hard enough when someone decides to show up and spam the game with things that are unbecoming of a jedi.

So I digressed to merely playing against bots. It was great for awhile, but it quickly loses luster fighting the same predictable bots over and over again, but it was better to me than bothering with multiplayer.

So along comes Neverwinter Nights and I figure, "Hey, Baldur's Gate II was one of the best games I've ever played, why not give this a go."

So I did. And let me tell you, it is incredible. For now, JKII will be sitting on the shelf, but mark my words, it won't collect dust. There will always be the appeal to ignite one's lightsaber and take first person shooters to new heights by becoming one with the force. Until something happens to this game to make it better, or until something happens to NWN to make it worse, I'm sticking with good old AD&D.

Ah!

I was away for a few hours and this thread ACTUALLY grew. My god...

Anyway, not sure about which part in Nottingham she lives in, I've only been there a couple times. It's a nice town though and there's a really nice restaurant nearby. Admiral Rodney I think it's called (?).

As for Descent, it was awhile ago, I hardly play. Hrmm... yes... I remember it all well...

For awhile I started my own clan called the Hunter Killers with the tag [HK]. You can still find [HK]Myriad on the PXO list of top players somewhere. I made captain back then.

Then I abandoned my made up clan (which wasn't really going anywhere) and joined the Wildcards under the name NightFall. Now there's a group of people who enjoy gaming! I loved my days in the WC. But things in RL changed the time I could spend and I lost contact with them.

Turns out, my old made up clan went on to become the HKE under my second in command guy, NovaStorm. Wierd...

Mostly when I play over PXO these days I'm under the name Pylon or Keys. I never used NightFall for play for some reason. Hehehe...

I miss D3 so much, wish they'd make a fourth...
