Listen guys...

I'm terribly sorry about Count Tyranus... I for one am not going back to those old Sith Alliance days, but it seems Tyranus is staying in the past...

Anyway, not the real reason for this thread: can anyone tell me why Star Wars has so amy midgets in? Here is a list of important Star Wars midgets:

1: Yoda.

2: Yaddle.

3: Even Piell.

4: Jawas.

5: Mars Guo (podracer).

6: R2-D2.

What is with the midget thing? OK, so Yoda does whip Count Dooku, but what is the point of the Jawas, Yaddle or even R2-D2? I mean, C-3PO would get along just fine without the tiny droid.

Opinions, anyone? :holosid:

90% of C-3PO's jokes would not happen if we didn't have R2 with us. And Padme would be dead.......and many other bad things would happen without R2.......

Short midget races are probably added there to show even more diversity, not just among appearances, but in height as well

Lucas has an affinity for little people, I guess. More than likely, it's because he wants to differentiate between races a lot and it's easier to do that if everyone isn't close to the same size. Course, it's helpful that he works with them in other movies too (Labyrinth and Willow, for example) so he can generally gather together a reasonable size crew of actors if he needs them.

Midgets don't equal cheaper costumes. Yoda for TESB cost more than Lando's clothes! Boba Fett was the most expensive new costume for that film, but that is understandable.

I can't stand Star Trek! They are so damn sensible about things. No "Let's just go in, guns blazing, because our ship is bigger that theirs!", but more "Let's talk it out. We just won't use our new, state-of-the-art weapon systems." Star Wars, however, goes for a more "My gun is bigger than yours!" approach. Just look at the Death Star...

Looking back at a couple of R2-D2 scenes, he is quite important. I watched TESB when he opens the door to the Millenium Falcon, ANH where he stops our heroes becoming pancakes and ROTJ where he tries to open the bunker (OK, he get's shot, but at least his heart was in it).

Ah well... I still can't see why :evanpiel: is there...

It does make sense given the plot of the story (exploration, not confrontation). Gotta remember that in Star Trek they face the possibility of encountering a new race of foes that just might decide to go obliterate earth if some cocky starjock decides they want to shoot first and ask questions later. Things in Star Wars seem a bit more copacetic. People typically know their place in the galaxy (unlike Star Trek, where they are learning their place) so they are a bit more willing to dive into things. :)

I can see your point, however I can also see the advantages of shooting first.

Take the Jedi. They pride themselves on resolving conflicts peacefully, however each mission for them (films or EU) seems to end up in a lightsaber duel or huge army battle. If Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn simply stabbed Nute Gunray in Episode I then the Battle of Naboo would have never taken place (plus the Confederate Forces in Episode II would have been smaller without Gunray's Battle Droid Army and Trade Federation Core Ships).

Hell, I'm just a 'shoot first ask questions later' kinda guy!

To be fair to Obi wan and QuiGon, they never got the chance to stab Nute Gunray. They tried to get onto the bridge, and then they probably would have ended the blockade.....but the droidekas rolled up and they had to run away because it was a standoff, and they coulnd't afford to waste time.

I agree completely. :D

Note that Leia was one of the first major leader female characters [plus Mon Mothma, who leads the Rebel Alliance!] and Lando Calrissian perhaps the first major black character in a major movie in a part that could have been played by any race whatsoever. One of the reasons Billy Dee took the part was the fact it wasn't a race-based role. A Caucasian person could have fit the part just as well! (Okay, I know we can't imagine another person being Lando - but hey, GL didn't know that yet :D)
