i just gotta say how much i respect ewen mcgregor's acting. he truly knows how to act. none of the dramatic scenes he was in seemed corny. you actually feel flushed when obi screams at the top of his lungs as he watches his master get slaughtered cold. i dunno- maybe it's just that everyone who plays obi-wan does such good acting :p

Eye of the beholder which I hated.

Trainspotting - Excellent Movie.

Actually I went out and rented "Trainspotting" right when I found out Ewan was cast for Obi Wan. The best part of that movie is the use of Iggy Pop's "Lust for Life" . Otherwise I hated that movie. I hate most all movies that demonstrate drug abuse. I have not seen any of the other movies you mentioned yet. As a side not I think Ewan Mcgregor is one of the strongest and most talented actors to grace the Star Wars Saga since oh...say....Sir Alec Guiness?

Ewen Rules! He's the best actor in Hollywood, besides Patrick Stewart.

There are very few people nowadays that know how to act, and Ewen is the best. :)

(Though nightwatch was..........freaky.......)

Yea, I believe that Star Wars will do to Ewan what it did for Harrison Ford, make him a larger star than he already is. Face it, there seems to be a kind of curse on Star Wars actors:D Now mind you, not demeaning any of the other actors/actresses(I think they're great), but Star Wars was pretty much the high point of their career, except for Ford. Hamill and Fisher are both doing fine in their own right, but Ford has just had amazing success. The same can probably be said for Natalie Portman.

And Obi, I agree with you. Patrick Stewart is an AMAZING actor. The guy puts off "A Christmas Carol" every year(I think he missed it maybe once or twice) for the last 15-20 years or so. BY HIMSELF! The entire play, every part, played by him. That's frickin' amazing. That's just a testament to how good he really is.

For those of you who haven't seen any Ewan's movies other than TPM and AOTC, I suggest you at least rent Shallow Grave, Trainspotting(also featuring excellent Robert Carlyle), Brassed Off(also featuring magnificent Pete Postlethwaite) and Moulin Rouge; some people have also praised his role in Velvet Goldmine(also featuring awesome Christian Bale), but I personally haven't seen it. These movies should give a good idea how cool actor he is. :D

Yes, sorry about that SharaFett. I should have put "Original Trilogy" when talking about the bad luck the main Characters in it had. And yes, there were others who did well after Star Wars, not just Ford. James Earl Jones did quite well for himself, and Sir Alec Guiness was already quite famous by the time he did Star Wars. But, by and large, most of the actors didn't do so well afterwords(at least not in an acting career). In the new Trilogy however, Lucas is bringing in some well established celebrities, a luxary he never had with the original(Well, besides Guiness of course).

It demenstrates drug use but not pro drug use like some movies. One day or another your gonna have to realize that there are drug users in the world very much like that. I thought it was an execellent movie documenting how messed up a drugusers life can be. I also really liked requiem for a dream which didn't only document drug use, but all forms of addiction. Food, Television, Caffeine. I love those type of movies because they are so real. But you are entitled to your oppinion but I just thought I'd let you have mine aswell.

I have to agree that Mr. McGregor is a fine actor...I just hope that his successes don't lead to so many of the problems other actors have experienced when they start hitting the big time - like booze, drugs, failed marriages etc.

Alec Guinness never really liked Star Wars, apparently, so I guess it's a testament to his great talent that he pulled it off so well.

I just hope there are more actors like McGregor waiting for their big chance, because in Britain, especially, a lot of the great thesps seem to be disappearing, with too few new arrivals to fill the yawning abysses left by their demise. I guess a large part of that problem has been the decline of the British film industry - considering the number of films churned out in past decades.

That's not to say we don't still have some great actors around, but they're usually not as visible, because they don't star in many films. TV and theatre have become the mainstays of much British talent - and that's true of some over the water too. I mean, just look at Hamill...he seemed to just drop off the map, but was actually involved in theatre, so he wasn't as visible to the masses. The same goes for Ian McDiarmid and Ian McKellen, who apparently prefer theatre.

I have to agree that Liam Neeson is also a fine actor, as is Patrick Stewart and Pete Postlethwaite. And who can forget Christopher Lee, still going strong well into his 80's, who's apparently appeared in more than a thousand movies?

There just doesn't seem to be very much younger British talent rising to the forefront of cinema at the moment, and I can only hope the TV drama mentality doesn't continue to drag us down. There's nothing wrong with using that as a start-point (we do have some excellent TV drama), but it doesn't have to be the mainstay or highest rung of an acting career - as Neeson and McGregor have proved. Just IMHO :)
