The reason EPII got bad ratings.

What's the deal with that love story?! I mean, come on, anybody else want a refund after that crybaby attitude Christensen put on?

-------------

Padme: You are not all-powerful Ani.."

"Ani": "(sniffle, sniffle) But I should be!"

-------------

I hear things like "the only thing Lucas has left is special effects".. and other false remarks. The only thing I have against Lucas is his latest movies. Ep.II had great battles and I loved it. But he made the love story.... how should I put this.... undesirable. Let's hope George can pull off a good finale... or.. prequel to the finale.... whatever! I hope Episode III is better, and even though I am criticizing, those critics should not be thrashing Lucas so bad. Ep.II was a B+ at best, and a B- at worst. For a sequel, that's pretty good.

Oh, and to all you George Lucas worshipers, disregard this thread.:p

You're not getting the point. The love story is essential, but did you not find the Han/Leia thing much more standable? I just think George Lucas has lost his luster in that area.

thats because han/leia had 3 episodes (movies) for their love story, anakin n padme had only one.. that is why lucas had to speed up the process by making it a bunch of bs =P

You have to remember Han and Leia were much older when they began there "relationship." Anakin in EPII is still a boy, and a padawan learner. Still very far from the powerful Darth Vader.

In EPII Anakin and Padme are young and in love. I didnt expect them to act like 30 year olds.

the padme and anakin relationship actually started in ep 1, remember the line where anakin asked padme if she was an angel. granted padme forgot him basically, but anakin did try to impress her (which was the only thing i found in episode 1 that made me want to turn away). Also, i thought that scene after the tusken raider incident was well portrayed, i wished it got a little deeper, but it was very well acted. Anakin's confusion came off very well in my opinion. But back to the relationship, most of the time it was just anakin trying to get padme to notice him while she pushed him away, until the end basically. This is totally different from the han and leia relationship which was a budding relationship that neither wished to admit, which made their relationship less overwhelming than a horney teenager trying to get a girl's attention.

I didn't mind the love story...or I wouldn't have minded it if Lucas could get half desent actors/actresses and write a good dramatic line.

Ann- I don't like sand...its all...sandy...but you're...you're not sandy...Thats why I love you.

Although I have to admit the scene where his mom died was sad but it was crippled by bad lines by the mother and him only showing him killing like 2 sand people

Padme's death does not send Anikan over the edge. In ep iv, Leia, says that she remembers her mom being sad and that she died when she was young. so Padme's death couldn't be what drives Anikan, to the dark side. I think it wont be any one thing that drives Anikan. over the edge, but rather it will be more gradual, as we are seeing now. Anikan, getting married, tells us that he is pretty much through with being a jedi, even if he doesn't quit right away. Also his discussion in the field, he says that he wishes he had the power to make people do the right thing. That is exactly what the empire stands for. It is a police state. Anikan, is seduced by this idea and doesn't understand how evil the emperor really is, and by the time he realises it, he has gone too far and cant turn back to the light side. that is why he saves Luke, he has wanted to redeem himself for years, but never felt he could do it. Count Dooku, used the same argument on Obi-wan, but it didn't work, even though most of it was true. the republic was corrupt and ineffective. Here's what I think will most likely happen in ep III. Anikan, goes about his life as a jedi, but is mostly going through the motions as in his heart he has already given up on the jedi, as they really havn't eased the suffering of the people. Obi-wan, finds out about the affair, and Anikan, is expelled from the Jedi Oder. At some point Anikan, takes out his frustration at Obi-Wan, and they fight. Anikan is badly injured, accidentally, and now needs to wear the armor. Dooku, dies. Palpy, needing a new aprentice, aproches Anikan, and tells him who he is. He gives him the line of join me and we can fix whats wrong with the galaxy. Anikans anger drives him to help exterminate the Jedi.

Anybody else can try to fill in the gaps that I missed.

anakin goes to the darkside after he and padme have a falling out, (thats why padme is sad). he is slowly going in that direction and they have an arguement, he loses his temper and she gets scared for the babies, she then flees to alderaan after taking luke and obi-wan to tattooine.

and as for the critics thing, its because all the critics now are old. they all remember the original starwars movies as a child, or at least very young. they dont feel the same way about the new movies because they are no longer children (ie easily awed by great storylines). if they had younger critics then ep2 would get a great rating. and i didnt mind the lovestory much.... just some of the dumb lines "i truly.... deeply.... love you, and before we die i want you to know...." ugggh, pass me the puke bucket.

hehe im gonna get flame for this but i don't think the prequels (ep 2 is better than ep 1) are as good as the originals in the plots. The action sequences and special effects are brilliant (i ove the fights) but the story is just not convincing, and the characters flat. This is best shown in the 'love story' The reason for this i think is that george lucas tried to explain (the universe, the technologies, how the story began, etc) too much, and sort of let the plot slip. Don't get me wrong, i actually liked ep 2 but i fell it is just not in the same mould of the originals

on a different note, i think the emperor will do to anakin what he would try to do to luke in RotJ, the difference in trying to taunt anakin into fight his apprentice of THAT time, count Dooku...so that anakin replaces dooku and becomes vader
