Yep, I can cook. In fact, I don't want to embarass her (unlikely as she never visits these forums), but I had to teach my wife how to cook. She could make an excellent sponge cake when I met her...but as for cooked dinners, she looked at me like I stepped off a passing UFO. She still has to ask how long to cook some things...and we've only been together for the past 12 years... :(

Personally, I think they need to bring back Domestic Science into the UK school curriculum, and not just for girls. Back when I was about 10, it was seen as a sissy thing, for girls only (I never took the subject myself, in case you're wondering), but at least it taught you how to cook, and manage a home.

Basically, if you can't cook and do some basic household chores, how on earth do you expect to survive when you leave home? Sure, you can find someone else to do it for you, or eat out, or get a cleaner if you can afford one...but I don't think that does much to encourage self-reliance, and it's expensive in the long run. I made myself learn how to cook and I'd always been brought up to do household chores, so it was no big deal moving out when my parents got fed up with me. And it obviously came in handy when I met my wife... ;)

I just think it's worthwhile looking into these things. Not trying to be preachy. ;P

... Everyone knows I live in Oklahoma... my mom's grandma showed my mom how to cook in an old fassion farm house... so my moms got a lot of cooking skills... and of course... I spend 60% of the day in the kitchen I learned my way around... :D
