txa1265
Definitely belongs here in the swamp - almost totally non-JKII I recently bought and just finished Serious Sam, the Second Encounter. I had never played the first one (but I might grab that for the $10 it sells for), but I was very impressed - especially for $20! The graphics were very good, the levels long and challenging, and it didn't bother bogging you down with plots ro characters! Just a few jump puzzles and other things like that. Mainly, just run and gun, circle strafe - screw cover, just shoot! It is not at the same level in terms of FPS gaming experience as the 'big four' of the last year (RTCW, MoH:AA, JKII and SoFII in calendar order), but it doesn't try to be. Linear? Sure, but it felt less so than MoH or SoF, because when the goal is to kill stuff, you don't really care. Levels repetitive? Definitely! They did mix it up, though. One thing that was really cool was the 'lens glare' when you looked up at the sun ... it is just awesome ... Anyone else play it? What do you think? Boba Rhett
I love Serious Sam! I only have the first one though. It's definitely worth the money.
Darklighter
From what I've heard the premise of the game is anything but 'serious' :Dlol
Darth Groovy
I'm glad someone other than me likes this game. I love the way thousands of enemies come at you in all directions!
txa1265
I forgot a thought I was goign to pursue in my initial post ... that was Sam as the next incarnation of Duke Nukem. Not really the same, but playing the game, with all of the obtuse commentary and wisecracks, I couldn't help but think of Duke. I have been (as with many) waiting for Duke Forever ... well, forever! Serious Sam, with nice graphics and weapons, captures some of that spirit. I can't help think that a Duke game with the Serious graphics would have been awesome ... Rhett, the second encounter is even better, becuase you get chainsaws, flamethrowers, and a sniper rifle. It's like Doom and Quake with lighting so bright you get sunburn playing it! He is a Duke clone, only funnier:D I love it at the begininning of Serious one when he takes out the big one eyed alien guy and he says "Yeah it's all fun and games till someone loses and eye!" and when he wistles the Indianna Jones theme when the big bolder falls towards him!
