Darth Talliusc
first off the rules: only jobs that you get paid for count, and they must involve a contract and a legitimate business. babysitting for a neighbour doesnt cut it =P post your thoughts on first jobs and first job experiences. i just started mine this week. its hell! its a university cafeteria and i make pizzas for pizza pizza. they dont let me eat dinner even though my shift goes from 4-8:30. at the end of the day when im starving we throw out all the pizza thats leftover. today that was NINE large pizzas that i wouldve gladly eaten. even the pizzas kept in the fridge that hadnt been cooked yet. they get thrown too. we can save leftover ingredients that havent been cooked (cheese, sauce etc) but if they are touching then they are garbage. i never eat breakfast due to the fact that i always get up late and cant eat in first period (chem lab). today lunch was rushed due to overwhelming homework that i dont have time for tonight. so all in all ive eaten 6 fries today and a brownie. let the first job horror stories COMMENCE! Cal_da_Darth
Being a paperboy sucks. Especially when you see people you know while you're delivering them; you look like a total moron. Plus, teenagers drive by in cars and honk at you. Annoying, if I do say so myself.
<JOTD>Jedi Hunter
My first job was landscaping. For my uncle. It was a horrible yet, rewarding experience. It slimed me down and I made alot of money.

mercatfat
On a dare, I worked as a carny for 3 days. That was the scariest 3 days of my life. Got paid pretty well, if you include the dare money, though.

Ratmjedi
My first job was at KFC. It was hell espicially when I got in at around 5:00 P.M. and didn't get out till around 12:00 A.M.. It was messy and it was a *itch and a half to clean the machines. Did I also mention that two people close the entire store. Try washing chicken trays with breading stuck to them that you had to scrub for like 3 minutes each to just get of all the fied breading. The floor was also messy and we had to clean that. I also was only getting payed $6.25 an hour. I was also 16 at the time. It sucked cause we had to take out the trash and throw away boxes with chicken blood. The kichen was also hot all the time and we cooked for hours straight until we closed and then we got our break. That I think was the worst job I have ever had. munik
I was a janitor at a middle school for the summer. Waxing floors and dusting stuff and moving stuff around. That was my first job. Government funded job, because I came from poor stock. I held a job like that for two summers, then I got a real job. Anyways, my first job was a janitor at 14 years of age. I've progressed since. Boba Rhett
I was a special agent working for the UN. The bulk of my assignments were mainly to seek down and assasinate high ranking military officials during the Gulf War. I specialized in hand to hand combat, explosives and infiltration. FYI, one of our guys was from England. His name was James. Oh how we'd tease him. We never got much cool gear to work with though. Most of the time it was your standard military issue stuff. C4, remote detonators, and plenty of beal twin rope for all the climbing. The only weapons we'd carry on all our missions were USMC combat knives. I only had to seriously use mine once though. Boy was that a messy ordeal. The guy took five hits in the back to get him down. After that all of my men, myself included, put in requests for HK USP Tactical pistols. After recieving a nasty knee injury, "actually it was more of a femur injury" from a fall during a practice run in 97, I put in a request for a desk job and here I am. munik
I was in the USMC, and that's not what we called our knives.

Ratmjedi
A K-Bar knife is basically a special forces issue knife. It is used by mostly every branch of the military. Standard Recruits don't get them or even here of them. So you were in the USMC Munik? Cool. I plan on going in after HS. Good to see a Devil Dog in here. Hoooorrrrraahhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!
munik
Didn't know they were special forces knives. I know they aren't standard issue, but I assumed they they might be issued for wartime situations. Just like a bayonet isn't standard issue, but it sure as **** is issued for war. Live rounds arent' standard issue either, but it's something you need for battle. It's something like Knife, Battle (Assualt?) Ready. I can't remember what the A stands for, but it's an acronym, and it's all screwed up the military way. Just like MRE's, Meals, Ready to Eat. Always what it is, then a comma, followed by an explanation. And saying Kbar knife is like saying Military Intelligence, it's an old joke and an oxymoron. Yep, an old Devil Dog here. You'll learn that the phrase "Devil Dog" came from the german word Teufelhunden(sp?) during the the Black Forest Battle in WWII in Germany. That's what the Germans called the Marines during that particular assualt. It litterally translates into "Devils Bitch", "bitch" in the dog sense, but still amusing in itself. You, my friend, will be born again Hardcore...a tough endeavor for any man, and I admire you for it. I went in at 17, and learned the ways of the world. It was something I did not like, to this day, but it was an experience I would never trade, or change if I had the choice. It is your path to becoming a man. And you better start saying Ooh-Rah, instead of Hoo-Rah. My way is the right way, and I'm surprised your recruiter hasn't twisted your head off for saying it wrong. Ratmjedi
As long as I don't say Ranger's lead the way it's all good. lol I am going to post something that I think you will like "The USMC is over 222 years of romping, stomping, hell, death and destruction. The finest fighting machine the world has ever seen. We were born in a bomb crater, our mother an M-16, and our father the Devil. Each moment that I live is an addtional threat upon youre life. I am a rough looking, roving, soldier of the sea. I am ****y, self-centered, overbearing, and do not know the meaning of fear, for I am fear itself. I am a green amphibious monster, made of blood, guts, who arose from the sea, feasting on anti-Americans throughout the globe. Whenever it may arise, and when my time comes, I will die a gloriouse death on the battlefield giving my life for Mom, the Corps, and the American Flag. We stole the eagle fomr the Air Force, the anchor from the Navy, and the rope from the Army. On the 7th day, while God rested, we over-ran his perimeter and stole the globe, and we've been running the show ever since. We live like soldiers and talk like sailors and slap the hell out of both of them. Soldier by day, lover by night, drunkard by choice, MARINE BY GOD!!! OORAH!!!" munik
You are born again HardCorps! At least you straightened out the Ooh-Rah! Maybe some day some sun dried and battle weary Drill Instructor will allow you to join my Corps, so you too can be a Minister of Death, praying for War. Just curious, please dear god tell me you are East of the Mississippi. I'd hate to see another leatherneck get pansified by San Diego. If they don't come from the Island, they ain't HardCorps! Ratmjedi
<-------------------------------------- Thats should awnser you're question. MCRD is harder you know. Parris is just the fancy place my recruiters say. I have a friend who is in his second week right now. The weather is also nicer on the Island. But ass long as you earn that eagle, globe, and anchor you're a Marine. Sorry If I get pansified.
munik
Ha, didn't even see your location. Nicer my ass. Black flag days all through June/July/August. That ain't nice. Swamp mosquitos with thick ass legs and camoflauge, sand fleas that will eat you alive, ant hills on the rifle range that are over a foot tall, and a foot in diameter. Oh, and also the fact that it is fricken PARRIS ISLAND! Reputation speaks for itself. Your recruiter will tell you that **** tastes like honey just to get you to sign. He has a quota to meet. Why don't you ask him about the signing bonus, it's around $5k, or the east/west coast guarentee after training, when you enter the Fleet. Your recruiter will hold out on you...at least mine and countless others did. He's trying to meet a deadline, and he'll do anything for you signature. You better make sure you get the best of it. Also make sure you get the maximum amount of cash back from the GI Bill. There are countless incentives a recruiter has to offer, but he won't offer them if you sign up with no hassle. You better start being a hardass now, because the Corps is gonna be a hardass with you. Don't let them take advantage of you, because they want you more then you want them. Squeeze those m*therf*ckers dry, you better get ever last incentive out of them. I'm serious. If you're going in, you damn well better get the best deal you can. I went in with the highest possible ASVAB scores, became a Small Computer Systems Specialists, and made about as much money as someone flipping burgers at Mickey D's. A real world job that makes around 100k a year, I did for minimum wage and lots of hassle. So don't let them screw you. You have the upper hand here, they just don't want you to know that. Get the best possible deal you can.

Ratmjedi
I am going in as an E-3 already. I get advanced promotion. My recruiter also doesn't lie to me. He's not like other Recruiters that I know. I got an 68 on my ASVAB so I am probally going to get a communications job. I have talked to my recruiter since I was 16 in Dec. He also tried to dis sway me from joining. He doesen't bs you and trick you. My recruiter is real cool. My recruiter also doesn't need to meet a quota. Our Recruting station gets the most people out of our region. He has more than enough people to meet his quota. Sorry to hear you got screwed over but I also have friends that are in and know what I should do and not do. Thanks for letting me know though. Darth Talliusc
wow, turned into kind of a military thread.... at first post (rhetts i believe) i thought it was a joke... not so sure now. well anywho ON WITH THE UPDATE!!! so my second shift ever at that cafeteria. im makin pizzas with this `4 year old kid named curtis, we run out of pizza dough so i send him upstairs to get some more from the fridges. my boss yells at him to hustle but hes a friggin slug (arent we all at work?) lucky for him too. as the elevator door gets HALFWAY shut.. THE POWER GOES OUT!!! if he'd been faster hed be stuck in there. had to close off the whole damn building. our boss told us to clean everything, not throw any food out in case power came back. but just to clean and make ready to close up. so were cleanin for a good half hour... until the fire alarm goes off. UGGGH. outside we go. first time the entire staff got to take its break together lol. so were sittin outside the cafeteria on the patio area. a security guard comes up and shoos us across the street. UGGGH. so were all chillin across the street and the tim hortons girl says "so, whos got a joint?" i laughed pretty hard and thats when she noticed i was there. next thing she said was "oh crap, great impression for the new guy eh" my boss answers "thats daves little brother (my brother worked there for quite a while). so the tim hortons girl looks at me and says "oh, daves little brother eh..... got a joint?". as it turns out they got high together after work a fair bit....... anyways. i was supposed to be off the clock by 830 but nooooooooo. because of the fire i had to stay till TEN! and to make matters worse. IT STARTED PORING!!! as it turns out, before the storm even started a leak of water got into the electrical room downstairs, the room flooded 6 inches deep. causing a bigass fire and shorting out the power all over. melted a transformer too. why there wasnt a fire detector in that room is beyond me, the electrician who came to check it out pulled the alarm as soon as she stepped into the room. i couldnt believe this crap. couldnt get my stuff out of there for so long. bloody hell! well i worked again today (all this happened tuesday btw). at least i got to bond with my coworkers and i have just one more story for outings. if you dont believe this shiz too bad. it really did happen. kingston ontario J-duc cafeteria. its ajjoined to the queens university stuff (one of the campus' anyways). unbe-frickin-lievable.
