darthfergie
I can't help it. I liked it so much and since it applied to all of you out there too, I'm just gonna post it. Hope you enjoy my English essay. ------------The True Magic Of the Myth------------ Many of you have seen CNN or some such network showing “Star Wars Geeks.” For some reason people think we are fanatics with little or no contact with the outside world. I hear people say, “Why in the world would you wait outside a theatre for months?” This is a common misconception. In reality most of us only waited for a few weeks. It is commonly thought that all we do with our time is to set altars up to George Lucas and burn incense on it. Well your all wrong. Star Wars fans usually do two things normally, just like any normal person they would: *Learn as much as possible about Star Wars. Many people around the world yearn to have valuable novels and information books about the best universe in all of creation so that we may model ours off of the best. With all of the knowledge that Star Wars lore holds, you could conceivably become Supreme Chancellor of the Republic. *Gather as many historic artifacts as possible. In the world of Lucasology many valuable finds are turning up daily. Thanks to the ongoing production of the Prequel Trilogy, many new and valuable finds can turn up in your very own hands. Many “collectors” have their “collections” in museums under lock and key. Even though they are in high security areas, museums are still allowing the public to look at them in awe so that they can wish they were that cool. It is very difficult to collect all these artifacts so do not be discouraged. Many have started out with nothing but Han Solo and his Millennium Falcon Deluxe figures, but many of those that start small persevere and now are holders of some of the biggest collections on Earth. Many important finds of recent memory include the original Battle Droid (Now on display in the Smithsonian) and one of the original Death Star models from A New Hope (Episode IV)! Many people will collect personally created items. The most notable among these is the X-Wing Jet and the first Lego Yoda. Hard to find items such as the speeder bike motorcycle and various costumes can be occasionally seen on Ebay. Costumes are a fan favorite and are a good venue to get into these days. Entire legions of stormtroopers have popped up worldwide. The largest of these is the Elite 501st regiment. The 501st is made up of over a thousand members from all over the Earth. You can see the 501st at just about any decent sized Star Wars event. If anything gets out of hand though- say a crowd waiting for the unveiling of a new action figure gets restless- they move into action. These people are highly trained in the arts of out arguing normal Star Wars fans into a stupor, which allows sufficient time to escort them away. Many people struggle to learn some of the difficult concepts of Star Wars early on. Most should start with the basics and work their way up. They can do this by simply watching the trilogy and then watching the prequels and then writing a ten-page essay on why Star Wars is better then Star Trek. If they can successfully prove that Star Trek is more worthless then a spoon then they have the basic concept of Star Wars fandom down. Many people study for years on the real equation to fandom, but Star Wars fans do not. Star Wars fans will accept you only when you kill them at Star Wars trivial pursuit. This is not an easy task when many fans have the entire game memorized and get new questions online for the big fan games. It is just a small hardship to endure to become a true fan. Some people are scientists of the complexities of Star Wars. Hundreds of people specialize in the various areas on the Star Wars universe. The largest areas under study are: The Empire Builders. This studies the big Empire builders in the Star Wars universe. Among the most notable of these are Emperor Palpatine, Mon Mothma, and Queen Mother Ta’ Chume. These are the sneaky political minded people who will stab you without any remorse and then claim their opponent’s lackeys did it. In this profession you analyze how the leaders kept their regime alive and how they came to power. A good example is Palpatine’s reign of terror. “Fear will keep the systems in line. Fear of this battle Station.” The Scum and Villainy. This is one of the biggest fields and one of the most explored. Many people look to the bounty hunters and smugglers and see the heart of the Star Wars universe. Here you learn about the methods employed by the various notable bounty hunters and analyze their reasoning behind the profession. The Grunt Workers. Here a unique study in which you dig for the secrets of the training of any sort of soldiering profession. Stormtrooper training is an average venue, but among the best are the Royal Guard and Commando training pieces. Many try the Jedi approach, but most do not succeed since there is already a large amount of information on these protectors of the universe so that even the most basic fans can become experts here. How things tick. This is probably among the best. It is a study of the mechanics and technology of the Star Wars universe. Some of the basic things, like how powerful a turbo laser is in comparison to a phaser, are often needed in blowing Trekkies out of the water. Some of the more complex things like the exact workings of the hyperspace compensator are invaluable to any fan who wishes to help mold our universe to the perfect one. I hope I’ve cleared things up. There really is no such thing as Star Wars Geeks. All of us are just ordinary people. We live in ordinary neighborhoods. We know ordinary people and do ordinary things. In fact it is my opinion that “Star Wars Geeks” are some of the most down to earth people out there. So next time you think about questioning the sanity of a Star Wars fan, just remember that we are normal people too.
Tie Guy
I give it an F. You misquoted. You made it sound like Palpatine said "Fear will keep the systems in line. Fear of this battle Station" when everyone knows it was Tarkin.
darthfergie
Well of course everyone knows that. BUT I THOUGHT EVERYONE KNEW THAT PALPATINE WAS CONTROLING THE MINDS OF THE PEOPLE IN THE EMPIRE! When the Emperor died the Empire fell apart because everyone needed that bit of energy the Emperor gave them...remember. yeah! I rule! j/k;)

Grand Moff Tarkin....there were probably a lot of people in his family, but only ONE Grand Moff Tarkin. And looking back, he only gave a quote that was directly following a sentence w/ Palpy in it, but didn't give the source of the speaker for the quote. Therefore he gets an F for NOT documenting his quote. (I figured as long as we're splitting hairs...)
darthfergie
My English teacher loved this. She liked it so much she used it as an example of how to write good essays in that style. I told her that everything in it is truth (well except about some of the items being on EBay...but an SW Hummer was!)...but she just stared at me in disbelief... Its more like an article than an essay.
Darth Homer
most of my teachers in grade school gave me the topic to write on. There were a few choose your owns, but those were few and far between so I never really thought to do it on anything other than the generic topics.
