LOTR-TT may as well have been based on homosexual relationships

Are you a super mod? I've been rude to a supermod :D

Anyways no one seems to get Australian sense of humour, I should probably be used to it by now. I still don't think I understand American humour. Seinfield springs to mind. He's funny because?

Brit humour is funny even though most of it I don't get

Its like finding out how many licks it takes to get to the tootsie-roll center of the tootsie pop.....the world may never know. Anyway, I think the discussion here is probably ended, I posted my "whatevers" on the humor poll....

sorry for not agreeing with you all, but I have to have my say in this one:

Lighten up!!! jeesh, stop being so obsessive about LOTR!! It's just a book, a movie!

You're acting like it's some kind of holy book/movie or whatever!

"Oh! she has violated the holy book! catch her! kill her! burn her!"

for gods sake, lighten up...you're being obsessive...it's scary

thats hysterical natty...my friends and i were just discussing such an issue. to be with that many men for so long they NEED to be gay....

....its a fact of life.

furthermore ---- theyre gay.

I LOVE IT when ppl get buried under their contradiction

Just guessing but maybe Al is talking about how I'm being silly for saying hobbits are gay. You have a go at me but then when I had a go at you for adding yourself to the poll thingie and claiming you'd won, you said you were being silly. I dunno if that's what Al means, but given those 2 quotes he's posted I'm pretty sure that's what hes on about

If you're correct, then that's retarded. I didn't think the joke was silly, I just thought it was dumb, unoriginal and poorly executed.. and was a "hey, you can put this in a gay context" joke which makes it even more retarded.

It's possible to be silly and intelligent at the same time. Just look at Adult Swim and The Kids in the Hall.

Different definition of silly for putting my name on the poll at the end. It wasn't meant to be humorous except in an inside joke way that none of you are in on.

we can draw the conclusion that people who are a tad childish found it funny and the more ault of us didnt! no need 2 start an argument :(

i was just showing mercatfat that he should make a big fuss about a joke he ddnt find funny, cause his joke in nattys topic was way stupider and less ppl found it funny. and saying natty's joke wasnt even a joke at first is just offending.

i hate it when ppl think their way is the right way, their humor is the right humor, their point of view is the right point of view. how can they not see that there r more than one opinion, and it doesnt mean the other one is wrong just because he disagrees with you.

i dont like americas humor, nor englands, but i dont think america is childish and england is boring. i just think they have a diferent sense of humor, and i respect that.

i know the world is filled with ppl that think like mercatfat (thinks only ppl that have the same joke taste as him are inteligent) and faith (thinks only ppl that have the same joke taste as him are adult), and therefore i should get used to this kinda stupidity, but im just not able to respect ppl that think like that.

Yes, the more adult people are more often the people that should use http://www.dictionary.com or at the very least learn some grammar.

As long as there had been LOTR fans, there had been people wondering the sexuality of Samwise Gamgee. Of course, such people had always been in the minority, because it was clear that Sam isn't by the end of the story, and that Sam is basically just a very good friend of Frodo's, in addition to being Frodo's hired servant. That's why he calls Frodo, "Mr. Frodo."

This is even explained in the movie:

Frodo: I am Frodo Baggins, and this is Samwise Gamgee.

Faramir (to Sam): His bodyguard?

Sam: His gardener.

This is also explains his excuse for being outside the window when Gandalf was talking to Frodo about the ring...

Gandalf: Confound it all, Samwise Gamgee! Have you been eavesdropping?

Sam: I ain't been droppin' no eaves sir, honest! I was just cutting the grass under the window there, if you'll follow me.

Gandalf: A little late to be trimming the verge, don't you think?

As a joke, the Sam is gay punchline is overdone among Tolkien fans.

Yeah but to newer fans it's funny- and like I said my best friend who has read the books time and time again still thinks the whole "Sam is gay" joke is funny. Still she has a sense of humour like me so it's no wonder

Hmm. Assuming that the people who got your "joke" are the "childish" ones, your point is rather, well, absurd. For, you see, the "childish" ones are Faith and Al...

I can't say that I've really noticed any particular lack of grammatical skills from anyone in the thread besides Faith and Al. And I'm fairly sure everyone knows what a joke is. It's jsut that jokes tend to be, you know, funny.
