Artoo
if people just wouldn't BUY 56k isp, then they'd go out of business, and cable would be less expensive, and even slower. so keep your 56k, stay off my cable connection cause i want faster dloading speeds!!!! grrrrrrrrrrrrr, I take monstrous offense to this, even more so than the first time. You deserve a dose of your own medicine. Jatt13 mentioned the other good point, you broadbanders hog bandwidth for something you will lok at and dump in your recycle bin after 5 minutes, each download is to be treasured. Stupid greedy broadbanders, yer all the devil. Then telling us 56kers to get off the lines like you won the whole show, I can't take the stupidity and selfishness you show for your connections. Kicking around the dial-up person because they can't afford broadband. That's just inhumane. Saying we clog up the lines. You clog up much more of the lines than we do. Arrogant, stuck-up, selfish... grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.... Oh and sorry Clefo, just a minor spelling error there. see? all better now. swphreak
Artoo: are you saying that you keep whatever you downloaded? I download demos and stuff, but if the demo sucked big time, I'm sure as heck am going to rid of it. If the demo is cool. I probably keep til I get the game. And not all broadbanders are evil. I rarely if ever download big files. i jus happened to be on a "Demo rush." I normally download songs, patches, and stuff and that doesn't take long. I really cherish my DSL. I jus cant go back to 56k. . . I would jus die. plus, the main reason my dad got DSL was because I started playing games online a lot and I would always lag. That really ruined the gameplay for me and others. And my dad was getting issed at getting cut off our 56k line. Why would we need to get a new computer for doom 3? Otherwise, you might want to get WC3 if you thought it was fun. As for this 56k and broadband strife, it's natural to download things fast and throw it away if we don't like it, etc... I do have cable, but I don't diss 56kers unless they start being disrespectful first....

Zygomaticus
Why would we need to get a new computer for doom 3? Probably because it's very demanding on the average "good computer" nowadays, and probably only the best of the best can run it... Artoo: are you saying that you keep whatever you downloaded? I speak from the point of view of a 1.5 year DSLer and a 5 year 14ker. We just don't download demos for the heck of it It's barely possible - 10-12-20 hours to download what would take a score of minutes on a broadband connection. We download with caution, with careful contemplation, after having analyzed its worth, we probably spend more time figuring out what to download than in takes the average DSLer to finish and trash the 100 megabyte demo he just got... There used to be a formula for calculating a downloads worth which had the pleasure factor, the want factor and the size factor all as variables, but i forgot it
swphreak
well believe it or not, it doesn't always takes "minutes" to download stuff with DSL. The speed also depends on the "other side." Maybe the site you're downloading from can only upload at 30 kbs, when a DSLer can do like 300 or more. And I've gotten a lot of those when I downloaded my demos. The only times I have ever gotten like 500 to 600 kbs is when I download from AOL. Cuz I use my DSL with them.

Zygomaticus
*picks up the dead something and eats it* 30 is a lot, my friend I too usually get around 30-40 with my DSL. Sometimes I get 100s or more.

That's 6x faster than my optimum speed (which I rarely achieve) I need some senseless violence right now so I can feel better. Maybe JO will help. ShadowTemplar
Without getting involved in the whole thread, I have to say that WCIII is NOT GOOD: 1) Cartoon graphics. 2) Shoddy stories. 3) Bad gameplay (tries to mix RPG and RTS, and I've yet to see a really good RPG computer game (and just as a "preemptive strike" against those who say "Baldur's Gate", or something like that: It's a munchkin game)). 4) 75 unit cap. 5) No supplylines, you just build whereever you want, irrespective of whether there is a whole flippin' army between your resouces and your construction site. 6) Very limited tech tree. 7) Is basically another "gather-enough-resouces-for-an-army-that-kicks-butts" game. 8) Userunfriendly map editor. So in conclusion: Starcraft was better by far and away.

Breton
Originally posted by ShadowTemplar Without getting involved in the whole thread, I have to say that WCIII is NOT GOOD: 1) Cartoon graphics. The graphics are different, but not bad, I think they are good. 2) Shoddy stories. Have you played through the campains? Exactly, you haven't. The story is superb. 3) Bad gameplay (tries to mix RPG and RTS, and I've yet to see a really good RPG computer game (and just as a "preemptive strike" against those who say "Baldur's Gate", or something like that: It's a munchkin game)). Why? It focuses less on getting rescources than the Age of games, but focuses more on the actual combat. Heroes and magicians makes the combat even better. 4) 75 unit cap. Wrong, the cap is 90. And that may be a good thing too, don't you just hate those guys who masses extreme amounts of soliders? 5) No supplylines, you just build whereever you want, irrespective of whether there is a whole flippin' army between your resouces and your construction site. That's only realistic. 8) Userunfriendly map editor. The map editor is advanced, and might be hard for newbies. But it also gives you the ability to build practically whatever you want.
