yknow, the guy who made Magic lived across the street from a Little Caesars in a town near where I live. With that out of the way, yes I do sometimes play it. I like goblins, which you already know Im assuming, so that means I like red.

The last time I played was right before Urza's something or another. Legends or Legacy I believe. It was right before that set with payback where you have to pay for it twice. The one cards that I remember from that set was a green jaguar that cost 1 and was a 2/2 with payback. That set.

 

The decks I loved were red with direct damage. Nothing like avoiding the opponents monsters and going directly to his hitpoints. Their dragons are pretty nice too.

 

I also loved the green regen decks with stuff like giant growth and barkwood? Card where you get +x/+x for each tree enchantment.

 

Next best deck was the combo white/black decks. Serra Angels and protection/healing with kick butt monsters that plague everyone.

i used to play back in teh day i stopped collecting when ice age came out, ive got truckloads of alpha/beta cards. I have some killer Elf decks. I won tourneys here in my hometown, man them were the days. I still have all my cards, been untouched for years. I remember collecting the ENTIRE legends set and making a gold deck that completely fawkin owned.

I remeber this stuff getting big when it first came out. I knew a load of friends that really liked it, but I never got into it. Just not my thing. I did not know it was still around or people still played.

What a great game. I remember the day it arrived

(Used to work at and manage a games store)

 

Before MTG, the concept of Collectible Card Games was

unknown. The game (invented by a mathemetician named Richard Garfield) really breathed life back into the gaming industry.

 

I met Mr Garfield at a small convention here in Canada, had him sign a Lightning bolt card for me (in person), got a chance to meet him also at a small house party before the convention. Very nice guy, down to earth kind of fellow.

 

I still have lots of cards (A few thousand), but have not purchased any after about 4th edition. I am often tempted to see what I can sell on e-bay, but I probably will just keep them to play with my kids once they are old enought to comprehend the rules.

 

Love the Artwork, that's what attracted many people to the game (and the collecting aspect)

 

Literally Millions upon Millions of dollars have been made on collectible, playable, tradable card games.

 

After Magic there came Pokemon, etc, etc, ect...

 

Making the card frequency differ (common, rare, ultra-rare) - Some marketing genious must have been laughing all the way to the bank. Actually, Wizards of the Coast, made a mint, and then began to buy up everyone around them.

 

The had printing presses in belgium runing round the clock (a company called Carte-Mundi) printing the cards 24/7 just to meet the demand.

 

Despite that the cards are expensive, and there never seems to be an end to the expansions (a licence to print money), it's still an enjoyable game. The ability to 'tune' your own deck to a theme and the endless possible permutations, keep the game fresh. That's why the game is still alive today after about 10 years (I am just guessing here, but it's been a long time)

 

Gotta brush the cob-webs off my cards and have a game one of these days.

If I ever have free money I always blow it on cards. I used to buy Decipher's Star Wars and Star Trek CCGs but since no one around me played I lost interest. I now still blow money around me with Decipher's LotR TCG. Great game and it seems they learned their mistakes from the previous games (don't know if they were as smart as Decipher).

 

The guy who thought of making cards foiled is probably laughing in The Bahammas by now. I bought a bow of cards for about $70 and ended up selling two of the foil cards I got in that box (if anyone plays Arwen, Daughter of Elrond foil and Aragorn, Ranger of the North foil) for $70 total. So those 2 cards out of about 400 payed for everything.

 

I actually miss the days back when everyone wanted Blacks Assassins (tap to kill minion), Nightmares, and that butt ugly red Ogre (I believe a 6/2 Trample cannot block cratures with less than 1 or 2 attack).
