Spitmaster
Is it already possible to play any of the old lucasgames without "quick and easy" in XP?? If not when?
Joshi
lucas arts have brought out the Lucas Arts entertainment pack which is basically four games (grim fandango, full throttle, the dig and sam and max hit teh road) remastered and fully playable on XP with no installation or setup. i'm not sure if it's available in the US, as far as i've seen, it's only available in the UK (which is why i have it), but i think the US bought a few hundred to be sold over there in exchange for... um... something that can only be bought over there. if all else fails, internet shopping is your best bet for the entertainment pack. but i don't know of any other games that will be done like this (i.e, monkey island and so forth). that's all i know of the matter. Spitmaster
That´s great, but only in the UK? and in the rest of Europe?? Only 4 of them Anyway thakx!!
Benny
Well you can certainly get the games running natively in XP, this usually means sacrificing sound and music though. You can of course use the 2 things that Q+E acts as a frontend for, VdmSound and ScummVM to run the games should you want to do that. Theres also dosbox, which will run a few of the earlier lec games such as mi1 ega.
Joshi
just out of curiosity, if you're having these problems, why not use scummVM or LEC Q&E? surely they're the best tools for the job.
Spitmaster
Yes I already used scummVM or LEC Q&E and they´re good to play the games but (still) they get some problems. For exemple, in MI2 when I´m the screen sometime gets crazy and makes a sudden movement to the right and left, and that also happens in Fate of Atlantis. I know, I know, it´s better than nothing, it´s better than not playing the games but ... It doesn´t feel like it´s running on "natural mode" (if u know what I mean?). I like the old games running as I played them the last time, before the XP. It´s almost a religion to me (ok u can call me crazy)and I there are people like me who would like to see them running with no kind of problems (becouse for me most of the games is related with sound). Remi
Just run Q&E with VDMSound instead.
Benny
The screen goes crazy? Even in VdmSound mode?
Rufio
or if you are hardcore and have like 100+ dos adventure games, build yourself a second cheap win 98 box, grab a cheap KVM and bam!! adventure anytime 100% flawless. (trust me its worth it when you have every 'collectors edition' of any quest series.)
scabb
I foundnd that most of the LEC games worked fine for me, with sound, without ScummVM, when I had XP. There were some exceptions, for instance Day of the Tentacle. However, I didn't try them all, and I only kept XP for a short while as my computer didn't like it. So, try running them standalone and see what happens. If that doesn't work, then it's tough luck. Either use ScummVM or VDMSound, get a cheaper system with Windows 98, or, set up your computer to dual boot with both Windows 98 and XP.
Mullog
All the Monkey Island games works on my XP. And the compability thing actually worked on MI2.
KeepGood
Monkey Island 1 & 2 should run almost flawless under XP using ScummVM. The problem sounds more like your graphics card or the driver set for your graphics card. Get a hold of a graphics card that hard really fast overlay and direct draw capabilities. (I know ScummVM uses SDL but the graphics driver is accessing much the same function of the graphics card). I am still using a GF2MX 64MB graphics card and MI 1 & 2 run perfectly under XP in ScummVM.
