UnfrozenCaveman
J'habite a Wichita, Kasnas, et il est tres <<boring?>> Tu veux dire, J'habite a Wichita, Kansas, et il est trés ennuyeux Et aussi, N'utilise pas le p.c. Tu parles francais maintenant. Je parle francais pour deux ans. Comprend-tu? En anglais, You said "I am american. I spoke french for three years." Which means you don't speak french anymore, 'cause the passé composé is a past tense, action is completed in the past. You wanted to use the present tense because it is ongoing and you are still speaking french.
StarCords
Je suis un peu confusé au différence entre passé composé et participe passé.
UnfrozenCaveman
Okay, the past particible is: formed by replacing the infinitive endings with the corresponding past participle endings. Par example. Voyager = voyagé choisir = choisi vendre = vendu Some verbs have irregular past participles. Par example, avoir = eu vouloir= voulu faire = fait So, the auxiliary verb + past participle = passé composé To use it in a sentence: Nous avons voyagé en france. What is in bold is your past participle. The passé composé cannot be formed without the past participle. There are two participles the present and the past. The present participle is the english equivilent of "ing". And the past participle is used to form the passé composé. Also, one would use the past participle when forming compound tenses like the plus-que-parfait, the future perfect and such. Hopefully, this makes more sense. Also, if anyone feels that they can explain this easier or add something to it, please feel free to. One more thing: passe compose is used to tell what happened Imperfect is used to describe What conditions were or what was going on Pluperfect is used to describe what HAD happened before another past event The choice of which tesne to use depends on how the speaker views the past events or situations. setsuko
LOL, UnfrozenCaveman, votre texte possède la setsuko potentiel vrai, vous offrez de grandes possibilités intéressantes de professeur! Je n'ai jamais compris passé composé. Je suis une mauvais étudianté.
Reborn Outcast
Ok for those who don't understand le passe compose. Present Tense: Je joue au foot. Past Tense: J'ai joué au foot. See the difference. For the past tense, we've added the conjugation for the verb "avoir" after je and added the little accent over the E in joue. Keep in mind that the verb "etre" can also be used in the past tense. ------------------------------------------ Verbs ending with: (AVOIR VERBS ONLY!!!) -er = é -ir = i -re = u ------------------------------------------ Common irregular verbs. avoir = eu etre = été (just think summer) faire = fait mettre = mis prendre = pris voir = vu ----------------------------------------- This is where it becomes tricky. THESE ARE ETRE VERBS ONLY!!! That means that instead of using the conjugated for of Avoir after je/tu/il/nous/vous/ils you would use the Etre conjugation instead. You will also add certain letters to the end of the conjugated verb depending on if its more than one person or male or female. A common way to remember these verbs is by DR. & MRS. VANDERTRAMPP (THESE ARE ALL THE VERBS USED WITH ETRE) Descendre Rester & Monter Rentrer Sortir Venir Aller Naître Devenir Entrer Rrriver Tomber Revenir Assister Monter Passer Partir Now that we've got that, lets move on to the conjugations. NOTE: Anything that is in these brackets [ ] is the female conjugation. That letter should be added onto the end of the male conjugation if you are talking about a female. USING THE VERB "ALLER" (to go) AS AN EXAMPLE. Je suis allé[e] Tu es allé[e] Il/Elle est allé[e] Nous sommes allé[e]s Vous êtes allé[e]s Ils/Elles sont allé[e]s ------------------------------------------------- Hope this helps!!! (And btw, I did NOT copy this off a website, this was from my own memory. )

Jan Gaarni
Ok, this is starting to spread. Now there is a spanish thread to, and if we let this go on, there going to pop up even more non-english threads left and right. Like I said in the spanish thread, this is an english based forum. That means that the majority of all post in a thread are to be in english. Let it die. Or it will be closed. Comprise?
setsuko
Well, I think that as long as it is restricted to one or two threads, it's fine by me. But then, you're the mod!
Reborn Outcast
I don't really see your reasoning for that. Could you please explain why you are restricting people to speak 1 language, and not a different one in even 2 threads.
Jan Gaarni
Well, for one thing, I can't understand it. If I can't understand it, I can't moderate it. And if I can't moderate it, that means all kinds of stuff could be said without my knowledge. But maybe I'm being too strict? I trust the people who have posted in this thread so far, to keep it PG 13 friendly, don't get me wrong. It's just, if I allow this thread, then I've got to allow all threads with non-english language. And if I do that, my job will be nearly impossible to do. You're right, it's not a problem right now, even though I have no idea what is said, I'm sure it's nothing bad. But when, or if it does become a problem, then I'll have to close them, including this one. And I don't really want to have to close it. And I'm not restricting people to solely speak english. There's nothing wrong speaking in another language once in awhile. But a whole thread? Like I said, its an english based forum, where people come here to discuss and share stuff in english. They really expect it to be in english. I'll make you people a deal: If I allow this thread to stay active, then you have to promise that: If this becomes a problem, with plenty of non-english threads, and/or starts with foul language and flaming, and/or people start complaining about this, that you do not become mad if I close this thread. Agreed?

UnfrozenCaveman
When I originally created this thread, I had no idea that it would have as many posts as it does. I personally, do not wish for it to be a problem. And, if you (the moderators) feel that it is indeed a problem with having a thread in another language then this thread won't be prolonged by me. Just reply back and tell me if you wish for it to end. I do feel that since it's in the off-topic forum then techinically wouldn't it be okay? And I'm not being a prick about it, and I don't want to 'cause problems, but I don't see anywhere on the forum rules and such that this is only an english forum. Like I said, I'm not trying to cause trouble.
