Burrie Posted April 10, 2003 Posted April 10, 2003 Nonsense. There's a difference between a beta and a demo. (and it ain't wether it has Multiplayer or not).
Jedi Apprentice Posted April 10, 2003 Posted April 10, 2003 Originally posted by Burrie Nonsense. There's a difference between a beta and a demo. (and it ain't wether it has Multiplayer or not). Exactly. A beta is an unfinished game or part of an unfinished game. A demo is usually almost completely done or is finished and is just a sample of the finished produst.
Guest Jed Posted April 10, 2003 Posted April 10, 2003 Originally posted by takennames i guess if theres no mplayer, it wouldnt be beta, itd be demo... If you're looking for the game that's mainly online, that's SWGalaxies. Excellent definition on the beta/demo bit there JA
dark jedi 8 Posted April 11, 2003 Posted April 11, 2003 plus, how could they make an instruction manual small enough to fit into a demo disk? there is still going to be alot to learn even if you skip the character creation process.
ultimaster Posted April 11, 2003 Posted April 11, 2003 This game is too big to make a demo. Too deep in its play to give you a good taste of the game without coming up short. The demo would be half of the game. You develop your character too. There wouldn't be any force powers enabled and if there was they still wouldn't give you a clear idea of how the game as a whole worked.
Com Raven Posted April 12, 2003 Posted April 12, 2003 This game is smaller in pure gametime than Baldur's Gate 2, and about the same as NWN, and they both had demos...
ultimaster Posted April 12, 2003 Posted April 12, 2003 Well I haven't played or followed either of those games, so please excuse my stupidity on the matter.
Swat Posted April 13, 2003 Posted April 13, 2003 that can put 1 or 2 sidequests as a demo. i dun mind of course
Tyrion Posted April 20, 2003 Posted April 20, 2003 Actually, the most common way for RPG designers to make the demos is to only give you the very first part of the actual game. Considering this game does follow a storyline, you'd only play for maybe a half-hour worth(basic introduction into the game, sidequest or two). Take for instance the Neverwinter Demo. You could create your character, but you only play the prelude of the official campaign(which is just a fraction of the size, maybe 5% and that's generous..).
Com Raven Posted April 20, 2003 Posted April 20, 2003 Well, I don't care... Xbox demos usually get to germany after the game itself, and a PC demo would be too late for me anyways
StormHammer Posted April 20, 2003 Posted April 20, 2003 I don't see why there couldn't be a demo for the game, even if it comes after the full game's release. Dungeon Siege came out with a demo too, which gave me about 4 hours play time - and it was a key deciding factor in me getting the full game (which took me 70 hours to complete). I don't see why a demo should be limiting - allow all of the character creation and stuff, and then just cut the game short at a certain point. If it's similar to NWN, you may have freedom to go where you want, but it's still a bit linear in that you have to visit certain areas. Just lock some of those areas and give a message like it does with DS - 'not available in the demo'. I'm pretty sure I'm going to like the game anyway, based on my experience with NWN and BG1 (haven't tried BG2). But a demo would be nice to have to make sure.
Com Raven Posted April 22, 2003 Posted April 22, 2003 Yeah, it's about not wanting to make a demo, not about not being able
