While I wouldn't say it's unimportant, it's a huge waste of money to shell out $600 just to have the latest and greatest CPU. That money is best spent elsewhere on RAM, and a good 3D card. You can get a great Athlon chip for $100.

Not many people support what with the Radeon's? What is there to support, these newer cards are designed with DirectX features in mind. The new FX series from NVidia are fully DirectX 9 compliant, which means that it's MS making the calls as to what they will support (9.1 is on the way too - adds more support for another feature to be on GPU's). If you mean that it's basically only ATI that make them, Nvidia don't make their own line of cards, they just give companies the reference specs for them to use. Prices for computers have really dropped here in Australia, mainly due to a stronger currency against the greenback. Looking to buy one sub $1000 and get some other bits and pieces to make it what I want it to be. I mean the prices for 120 GB HDD, and the rest of things, it's a good time to buy here in Australia....

For me Athlons are as good if not better than equivalents Pentiums, whilst being cheaper. Still, through intense marketing Intel dominate the market. Sound *cough*Microsoft*cough* familiar? Andy867
Well, if getting an AMD, make sure to get a good heatsink fan, probably even the Volcano 9 with MOD (its like an intake chamber), and also the Arctic Silver 3 Compound.. Take it from a person whose had an AMD for the past 4 years.

I think so. Youll mostly see improvement in your computer speed. Like finding objects and stuff.
Andy867
Well, loading times, overall gameplay will definitely show improvements, and its actually 60FPS that the human eye can see, 50 and humans can see the refresh. But I'd say a good GeForce card, along with 512-768 Ram and an AMD chip would suit ya(if your MB supports AMD)
