Hogfather (although not many seem to like that) although Theif of Time is a close second (because i just finished reading it). I'm currently reading Wee Free Men (staring the Nac Mac Feegle, who were just adorable in Carpe Jugulum). I own all the books in the series (although am yet to read Maskerade, only bought it a few days ago and don't own Maurice and his amazing educated rodents yet) plus both science of the discworlds, all maps, Nanny oggs Cook book, The Pratchett Portfolio (Paul kidby's the best!) and two discworld comic books (Mort and Guards Guards, Morts not as good in comic than the book, which I agree was great!)

I also own and have read the first two Nomes books and the first johnny book. If you like the Nomes book, then you may be interested to know that dreamworks (makers of Shrek) are adapting it into a CG movie.

I have two shelves full of Discworldian artifacts on the bookshelf next to me, including all the novels (all of which I have read, some of which are signed), diaries, companions, Clarecraft figures, The Last Hero, the two Discworld "stories" (Wee Free Men and TAMAHER), a still-sealed 2002 calendar, the cookbook, "Science of..." books, quiz books, and maps. I think I've spent around £500 on Discworld stuff...not bad :D.

If I were to place the novels in order, from best to worst, the list would be:

1. The Truth

2. Maskerade

3. Night Watch

4. Interesting Times

5. Soul Music

6. Small Gods

7. Pyramids

8. Reaper Man (the funniest of the lot)

9. Thief of Time

10. Wyrd Sisters

11. Men At Arms

12. Fifth Elephant

13. Feet of Clay

14. Witches Abroad

15. Guards! Guards!

16. Last Continent

17. The Light Fantastic

18. Sourcery

19. Lords and Ladies

20. Eric

21. Mort

22. Carpe Jugulum

23. Moving Pictures

24. Hogfather

25. Jingo

26. Colour of Magic

27. Equal Rites

I dont know if I could put em all in order, but pyramids at 7 and small gods at 6? ooh no. Those two are my least favourite of the whole lot. Night Watch would rate pretty highly with me were it not for the fact that it cost me about 40 quid, I somehow left 20 quid at the cash machine when I went to buy it....

You don't like Pyramids or Small Gods? I thought Small Gods was hilarious, but each to his own, I guess; Neil loves Hogfather, but I don't particularly rate it.

Still, I think I've underrated Men at Arms rather a lot; looking at my list again, there's a few things I'd move around. Ah, well...it's impossible to come up with a proper list, really.

I have read three Discworld books. One was 'Mort', which was okay I guess, but not exactly as hilarious as people make out. The other two were 'The Colour of Magic' and 'Equal Rites', which were frankly boring, and also happen to be at the bottom of Ferals list ¬

The crappiness of those two books put me off reading any more of them.

You can't base the entire world on The Colour of Magic and Equal Rites, they are simply the first book written (although if you're wandering about what happened to Rincewind in The Colour of Magic, something really weird happened which landed him back on the Discworld, and then he saved the world, again, not the best of books) by Terry back when he thought that these book were going to be read by adults. When he found that more teenagers were reading Discworld books, he became a lot better at throwing in humour and adventure along with all the rest of the stuff that got me interested. Of course it does depend on your taste, maybe you just don't like these kinds of books (although I must say that it is these kinds of books that have permanently put me off Harry Potter, and I haven't even read any of those books)

Hmm, I suggest reading one of the books near the top of Feral's list (I agree with some of it, but as feral said, it is hard to put it into some kind of list like that as many of them are very different, depends on your taste)

My personal favourite type of Discworld books (please remember, the only things that stay consistent in these books is that it's written by the same guy and it all takes place on the Discworld, oh, and at one point or another, every single books features Death) is the Witches books, but a lot of people I know love the Watch books and I would very much suggest them as they are great and I think would fit your personality. Of course, if you don't want to, you don't have to, just a suggestion.
