Swish2 vs Flash5

I have macromedia's flash5, never used it, installed it once it intimidated me, seems complicated. I heard through an old post that Swish makes swf stuff. I also saw on the site it is easy to use. Being a vegetable I like that. what I mainly want to do is take images, import them into a program that makes flash animations, (in other words simple slide presentation stuff and over lay it will wav's mp3's etc) so does any one out their use Flash5 and or Swish2 and what is your opinion? also any links or subbmissions of Swish made stuff by you or a friend would be helpful. PM me for email instructions.

well, i use flash MX so basically i know how to use flash 5, and i never used the other one so i can't compare. It shouldn't be too hard for you to make what you want to do using flash if the number of pictures is predefined, you basically just have to lay the pictures down on the timeline and voilà!

You could also do it so you could have any given number of pictures and have it work properly, but you'd have to get into programming (Action Script).

well i use both and i like em, but flash is a bit more complex. but with this complexity come more features.

maybe you can try both and see yourself what you like best.

i first used swish but as i now start to know flash better im more leanin towards usin flash for doin evrything.

heres an example of my first site try usin swish: clickie

that looked quite good from a begginers perspective, I mean if I start I will begin with very basic stuff until I gain confidence to learn more advanced things. one thing I found weird was okay you make object and store them as library pieces ie you make a head once and use it all the time. then move different eyes or mouths on it etc. what i di not get was making a bg and then placing an object on top of it so that the bg did not show through. I bought the Flash5 for Dummies book but even it makes it seem hard. I have this perfectly good program at home and have never done anything with it. and Flash courses are so expensive. I just thought maybe Swish or Flash MX might be easier for real newbie beginners. Some day maybe I will be real brave and try to instal flash5 again.

I must get round to learning Flash myself, but like you said, it just looks far too complicated.

I know it'll be alright once I make a start, but dammit I'm lazy :p

I have used Swish in the past and it's been fine for what I wanted, but it can be limiting. It depends what your final .swf's are going to be used for.

From what I gather Flash deals directly with vectors (which is good for low file sizes) whereas when I've used Swish, it's been mainly to animate bitmaps; so you're limited size-wise by the amount of content you're using.

If I were you I'd go straight for the Flash. It can do the lot. (It's just that I can't make it do the lot :p )

I have Swish 2, Flash 5, and Flash MX. Obviously, I dont use 5 anymore.

Swish 2: Very good program, If you are a beginner and dont know how to do interseting effects.

MX: Its a (way) more complex version of Swish pretty much.

the very first ting i want to do is take jpgs i have in psp6 and make them into a slide show, no fancy transitions just a,b,c,d... and over that i want to put music or whatever. so all i need is instructions how to import, how to animate frame by frame time spaces i guess like a sec ot 2 aprt. and overlay sound. as for drawing and stuff thats maybe far far into the future.

thanks for the tutorials I will check them out tomorrow.

and i kind of have to use flash5 as i got it for free and cant afford the other ones.

Eggplant:

Flash 5 might be easier for what you want to do than Swish. Personally when I used Swish I found it to be the more confusing of the two especially with respect to simple animation, thought it's good for cool-looking text effects. Technically though, you could download the MX demo and use that - it'll work fine for 30 days. :)

i WOULD recommend Flash 5 above Flash MX. though MX has more functions, it lacks in functionality, working with flash 5 is soo much faster and it is so much better arranged.

i have to disagree with you kstar, you only say this becaus you are used to the flash 5 interface, if you had learned MX before you would probably say the contrary. I think MX is easier to work with, and besides the interface is pretty much the same as other MX products by macromedia (Director, Dreamweaver, Freehand, Fireworks) which make it very easy to use these as well.

all the palettes can be moved freely, just like in flash 5, but IMO it makes it much easier to work with static ones, you don't have to move your palettes all the time... and the properties palette is probably the best thing they added to Flash, it's very useful makes your work easier.
