The meaning of life..?

Ray Jones

Recommended Posts

Don't be too worried about the 42 thing, it's pure fiction. Or is it? (that was lame)

Anyway, what does the end of the world have to do with gods coming back have to do with atlantis rising have to do with the meaning of life?!

RayJones, the whole 42 thing was a joke... in a book... called Life the Universe and everything, where a bunch of people asked a highly evolved computer the question of life the universe and everything and after loads of year, it came up witht eh answer, which was 42, we're not seriously saying that that is the answer, it's just a joke.

Besides, everyone knows that the real answer is 3.

...Suppose I should explain that. :max:

Three is the smallest value that can exist in our universe. To see this, we start with the concept of nothingess, which is represented by zero. But it isn't nothing--it's a concept, and idea which makes it something. This is due to our being aware of it, which also implies that there must be at least one to be aware.

Schrodinger's cat. :dozey: Perception collapsing probability into a cohesive reality. Anyway.

This relationship of perceiver and concept (in order to bring the idea of *nothingness* into being) implies that we must have at least two for there to be existance. If there are two, then there must be a separation of some kind between them...and a distance no matter how small must cross something, which suggests three. The rest of the numbers all fall into place after, but that basic expertiential reality can be reduced to no less than three.

:D Behold trinity.

It isn't a random theory. It's *mine.* ;)

It doesn't seek to explain the meaning of life, if that's what you mean. I'm just offering a more valid and basic valuation for the universe than 42, with reasoning which seeks to prove that by demonstrating that it is the smallest number conceptually that can exist in the quantum universe as we understand it. :)

I've already explained it as rationally as I could. The whole Schrodinger's cat, object and perceiver as basis for reality thing can be handily researched on Google for those interested in quantum theory.

if i understand it right, zoom means that nothing really could displayed to reality WITHOUT knowing the existence of at least THREE states ..

i guess i doesnt really has some to do with the classic number THREE ..

just imagine a six dimensional phaseroom.. you keep 2 informations in the coordinates position and moving vectors .. each builded by a THREE-o of numbers representing the xyz axes .. (btw .. THIS is the way to get odd attractors..)

Thats it (kind of) .. THREE states for ONE information!

Thats basic life rulz .. and its more that the raising of atlantis and gods having their return. (what do they think. like they show up here and i am supposed to give all my FOOD???? Pfrrres.. LOL)

*recieves sticker from zoom: DUMB as noone believes!*

[edit]

hmm .. lets see .. 3 fits 14 times into 42 .. maybe a hint .. ??? ( 3 minus 1 is 2 .. divided by 4 is 1/2 .. the half of 42 is 21 .. divided by 3 is 7 .. 7 and 3 gives 10! 10 is the base to or figuresystem .. HEY. ZOOM. you are great!

Well, Ray...if Atlantean gods come down out of the sky and demand all our food, I guess that's why we have tanks.

:tank1: No food for false gods!

Trinity is a concept that can be found in religions besides christianity, and even shows up mathematically (either in dimensional axes as Ray describes, or as the smallest numerical value possible in our universe as I'm talking about.) It's like a fractal code embedded within the framework of our universe...religions, naturally, pick up on this. ;)

Here is a sutra (an allegorical story in the hindu/buddhist tradition) of my own composition that more or less concerns trinity. (Some of you may have seen this before.)

The Carpet-Weaver's Sutra

Thus have I heard--

That the ancient art of hand-weaving the carpet is one that is passed from master to apprentice over many years. The master knows things about carpet-weaving that he cannot express with words, so he must guide the apprentice to the point where he can realize the same things for himself. In this way the art is passed down, which cannot be expressed with words, and the apprentice becomes a master in his own right.

This makes perfect sense to the master, but confounds the apprentice.

One day, after he had trained his apprentice for many years in the tedious complexities of dyeing and spinning thread, the master decided that it was time to begin teaching him about carpets. "Come sit down with me, and I will teach you what is a carpet."

The boy sat obediently. "But master, I already know what a carpet is! After all, we are sitting on one now."

"Really?" The master clucked his tongue. He held up a spool of thread the boy had dyed and wound just the day before. "If you were to take the carpet and unravel it, it would look just like this spool of unwoven thread. True?"

"Yes. But that spool of thread isn't a carpet yet."

"Ah. But on this spool is a carpet that will be...and if we unraveled the carpet, the resulting spool of thread would be a carpet that had been. It is only now, when it is a carpet, that we do not see it as thread."

"Um...okay."

The master laughed. "But you are also right!" He stood up, grabbed the carpet and held it out, tugging at the corners. "This thing, this square bolt of cloth, is a carpet."

"So the thread is carpet, and the carpet is carpet?"

"It gets better." He walked over to his computer, took the mouse in hand and called up his website. "Here on my home page are some designs of the carpets I have for sale." He enlarged one of the images. "Here is a digital photo of the carpet we were just sitting on. As far as the whole world is concerned...this image is the carpet. It stands for the carpet, in a form which can be shunted and bounced around the internet much more easily than the actual carpet can be."

The apprentice scratched his head. "Master, I'm confused. You say that thread is the carpet, the carpet is carpet, and now the design on the carpet is the carpet! If I keep listening to you, I will become a carpet."

"Some day you will understand, carpet-boy. Until then, just remember this:

'The carpet is its essence, that from which it came and will return.

'The carpet is its form, that which it defines with its essence.

'The carpet is its design, that which emerges from the form and can be identified as concrete in its own right.

'The carpet is all of these things, and all of them together make a carpet. Whenever one makes a carpet, one must remember all three. To forget one of them is to misunderstand the art of carpet-weaving."

Om! Peace

FROM NOW ON I FORBID ANYONE TO POST ANYMORE IN THIS TOPIC-please!!!

Our heads with explode with a mass of endless ....goo and....ick....the human mind....isn't.....capable......................

AAAIIIII!!!!!:explode:

but seriously

My primary school(elementary school) religion teacher said even if humans saw god it would be to much for them and they would be no more----

JUST DON'T TRY TO THINK OF THE MEANINF OF LIFE

(a possible meaning of life could be that we are god's guinea pigs and he is humiliating us by not telling us the meaning)

jus a thought...

:duel:

THE MEANING OF LIFE IS NOT TO CRY WHEN YOUR FATHER CHOPS OFF YOUR HAND, LUKE!!!

btw, zoom ^ THAT is creative english .. ;)

i dont fiddle 'round with meaning of life .. i dont whine .. or so .. ??? But everybody knows (or is supposed to) how somewhat works .. for instance .. i know how computers work ..

(*zoom steps up with yet another "stupid dude." sticker*) .. any some stuff more .. (yeah i know i'm just lame .. :D)

and i know what i dont know.. i dont really know how life itself 'works' ..

so as i was asking for the meaning of life i dont meant it like 'Oh. the sun is not shining.. life has no meaning anymore to me..'

Can you imagine that some guys in this world watched some episodes of MacGyver too much???

Can you imagine there is someone who tries to UNDERSTAND instead of getting everything PROCLAMATED ..

ps. i only had 1(!!!) lesson in religion .. then i deselected it..

Why are we here? I answered that already in my first post in the thread--we are God's way of knowing the universe. ;)

I subscribe to the kabbalist's point of view on this matter. The sacred kabbalah (which is an ancient set of Jewish teachings that were meant to be passed down along with the written torah) teaches us that human consciousness is pretty much the consciousness of God, fragmented and descended to the physical plane, given the illusion of individuality. It also teaches us that it is our goal as spiritual beings to 'remember' this truth and then return unto God when we die. Our purpose, as this suggests to me, is to exist within and experience the physical universe, then return these experiences back to our source. :)

Note: I'm not trying to precipitate a religious debate, but rather answer the frigging question as straightforwardly as I can. :D Being a 'theist,' this requires me to use the word God.

Nick: Sorry about the head, buddy. :max: Put some ice on that.

Ray. Glad you liked the sutra. BTW, I rejected religion when I was young (13) and decided to find the truth for myself. After many years of personal mystical seeking, I came to understand that what I had found was reflected in all of the religions. So what did I know? ;)

If only you had that power.

And Zoom, what you said is valid, but it's till only a theory, it's only what you see to be the meaninng of life (I never thought I'd actually say that on these forums, go figure). I believe in god as much as you do, but we must be prepared to accept the unexpected, what you say seems to be more of a wish than anything else. With no proof to back up your theory, all it can every be is a theory. Good one though, I like it (although most of the members of this forum are athiests so they may not take it as well.)

When i had my first joint everything was clear to me .. :D :D :D .. this wont be the way to find he truth ..

i grew up in the GDR .. we had no "church" like this .. i never was involved to that that much .. we had other things to do ..

i never heard a explanation like "GOD leads the way" or so ..

i choose to check religion lesson when i was 14 .. i though perhabs there is some to learn. wasnt.

At that age i was that 'far' i just discovered chaostheory (basically) and so on .. combined with some maths is has powerful methods to get some conclusions and further ideas .. furthermore it described something i call selfrepeatitious .. and the clou FRACTAL-dimensions .. yeah .. therefore you can draw a line a way it has TWO dimensions (fractal) .. and so on. I dont know why .. but GOD and his books (which god which book dont care) has no such thingys ..

Religions .. hmm.. i think they make/made sense in some way .. but this has been abused so much .. sadsadsad.. i wonder what makes me feel different for buddism ..

and neil.. i would say GOD i only a theory, too ..

What?

No seriously, I said before, we're not meant to think about it, we're just meant to go though life living our lives as best we can. I have faith that I will find the reason when I die. If not, I'll be dead and won't care about it.

Neil, what do you mean if you say we are not meant to think about life..?

Remember .. THINKING is the part that makes us US. So for the reason of FREE given WILL .. WE WILL think about WHAT has to be thought about.

OR what the hell is that f-in thing in front of you were you hacking these messies in?? you think it falled from above downto us??

i am that what you call happy..

i live my life ..

hmm. i tried to say i just want to get some understanding for the 'mechanism' not for the 'spirit'..

Your Children are not your children

They are the sons and daughters of the yearning

of the life for itself.

They came by you but not from you

Although they are with you

they are not your own...

You may effort to be like them,

but dont try to make them like you.

Because life dont goes backwards neither it stays in the past.

You are the bows, from which your children

are being send as living arrows.

Sure it does. It's 'philosophy for monkeys: 101.' :D

Neil, I believe that our friend Ray is trying to say that we as humans are meant to think about things, and then goes on to point out that the computer in front of you was created by thinking humans rather than falling down from heaven. ;) I think.

Everyone give me money. :max: That is the meaning of life.
