This is the last time I start one of these theads... maybe...

Anyway, in a few weeks I will finally be getting a XBOX. I am currently trying to decide what games I should get with it. The following is a list of all of the games that I am currently interested in.

  • Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic - 95%
  • Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell - 93%
  • Panzer Dragoon Orta - 90%
  • Shenmue 2 - 81%
  • Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee - 80%
  • Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc - 79%
  • The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers - 79%
  • Indiana Jones and the Emeror's Tomb - 77%

  • The Kore Gang - 2nd Quarter 2003
  • Broken Sword 3: The Sleeping Dragon - October 10, 2003
  • Deus Ex: Invisible War - November 3, 2003
  • Beyond Good and Evil - November 17, 2003
  • The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King - Fall 2003
  • Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy - Fall 2003
  • Galleon - Islands of Mystery - 3rd Quarter 2003
  • The Lord of the Rings: The Treason of Isengard - December 2003
  • Armed & Dangerous - Winter 2003
  • Full Throttle: Hell on Wheels - Winter 2003
  • Worms 3d - 4th Quarter 2003
  • Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time - 4th Quarter 2003
  • Thief 3 - TBA
  • Psychonauts - 2004
  • Starcraft: Ghost - 2004
  • Fable - 2004
  • Star Wars: Republic Commando - 2004
  • Oddworld 4 - ?

The scores might be a little off, it was a while ago when I got them from GameRankings. Some of the release date might also be a little off, again it has been a while since I checked.

Focusing on the games that I want that are currently out there is only one game that I am definitely going to get, and that is KotOR (have you noticed how similar that is to RotK?). Since I can't get all of the games that I am interested in, I need some suggestions of what else I should get. I am currently leaning towards getting Oddworld and Rayman 3, because I like platformers. The combat in Indy sounds great, but I think Pleto (or someone) said that there is a lot of swimming. I HATED the swimming parts of the previous game, so I don't know if I could stomach this one. I am not sure about Shenmue 2. I flicker off and on between being interested in it and then not carring about it. I heard that the TTT game was pretty fun. Anyone here played it? Splinter Cell I think looks pretty fun, but I am wondering if I should just wait for the sequal... I have also heard that Panzar Dragoon Orta is a good game, but I'm not sure if is my style.

Or should I just get KotOR and save my money for all of the great games that are coming out this fall?

Anyone have any advice?

Well, I don't have a XBOX nor am I going to buy one, but I would go for Splinter Cell and save the money for the upcoming games.

As I don't have a XBOX I don't know all of this games, but still:

*KotOR seems great so I would buy that one.

*Slinter Cell is great on PC, but I don't know if the XBOX version is as good as the PC version. Great game nontheless.

*As for Panzer Dragoon Orta I have only seen screens and I don't like what I see, but you can't really judge a game by the screens so I don't know.

*Shenmue 2 seems ok I guess but I haven't played Shenmue 1 so I'm not an expert on this one.

*Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee seems pretty good. Shame that it doesn't come to PC.

*Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc: No comment.

*TLotR: TTT: I wouldn't buy it. No matter what the prize is.

*The Emperors Tomb: Wouldn't waste my money on this one.

As for the upcoming games there's many games that I would want: Broken Sword 3: The Sleeping Dragon (of course! :D ), Deus Ex: Invisible War, Full Throttle: Hell on Wheels (I guess), Thief III, Psychonauts, Starcraft: Ghost and Fable.

Don't think that I was much of a help, but, still, this is the way I feel about these games. :)

Yes, steer clear of the Lord of the Rings games, they're poor. I don't think that Full Throttle 2 will make an appearance on the console either, and Jedi Academy will really be better suited to your PC.

I'll be interested to see how Worms 3D works. Probably mind-numbingly difficult, I'm not particularly good at the 2D versions :~

I've got an Xbox and I'd recommend the following:

Splinter Cell

Halo

Shemnue II

Dead or Alive 3

splinter cell is excellent and quite difficult, which i see as a good thing. halo - nuff said. shemnue II is genius and will give you your moneys worth. doa3 is real short, but great fun.

as for the others i can only speculate, but KoToR or whatever, looks damn cool.

I'm going to have to disagree about the Two Towers game, it is a pretty entertaining, fun beat-em-up styled after the LotR movies.

Another game you might be interested in is Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance (action RPG), which is really fun with two players. If you're in to sports games, all the Sega titles are well worth the money, and SSX Tricky is a whole lot of fun.

I've got an XBox, and have played most of the games on your list. So here's my run-down:

KOTOR - Don't have it yet, but definitely looks awesome. I mean, it's from Bio-freakin-Ware

Splinter Cell - Great game. But I'd reccomend renting over buying, if that's an option. It's a little on the short side, and doesn't have much replay incentive. But it's a blast while it lasts.

Panzer Dragoon Orta - Really depends on you. If you like shooters (Like Galega, Gladius, etc.), you'll love it. If you like games that have beautiful artwork and are like a surreal trip through a painting of some sort (Like Ico), you'll love it. If you have bad reflexes or need oodles of plot, probably not for you. I loved it, though.

Shenmue II - Glorious game. I played the first one on Dreamcast and loved it, and love the sequel even more. It's really hard to decribe the game - it's like an adventure/RPG/fighting game. It's got bits and pieces of everything. The plot's fantastic, and the game world is one of the most *living* worlds I've seen in a game.

Haven't played Oddworld or Rayman 3

Two Towers is surprisingly fun. It's a nice little beat-em-up romp that's great for just picking up and playing every now and again. I mean, taking out the Uruk-Hai as Legolas kicks very large amounts of ass.

Haven't played Indy, either.

As far as upcoming games, Fable, Psychonauts, Thief 3, and Deus Ex: Invisible War look like the best of the bunch

The game that they are making for RotK is looking like it might be better than TTT. Unless I am mistaken it is going to be multiplayer, which would be quite fun.

Scabb, why don't you think FT2 will be on XBOX? LucasArts said it would be.

Also I saw someplace recently that it has been confirmed that a Shenmue 3 is being made.

I own a Hex Box myself, and if Bethesda (aka Bugthesda) can ever get their act together in the bug department, this fall's triple pack release of Morrowind with both Tribunal and Bloodmoon expansion packs included will be a good score. I have all three for PC and, as an RPG nut, I love them. Of course, I'm getting KotOR myself tomorrow (via Gamestop preorder- yay!) so you know I'll be gabbing about that one soon, and I loved Splinter Cell too (except on the PC version you can save anywhere, if your PC will run it).

Shenmue II, despite looking somewhat grainy and dated (the Dreamcast port wasn't enhanced much) and having odd conversational translations at times, is a solid adventure game if you don't mind the occasional quick button mashing during timed sequences. I haven't finished it yet, but it's a slowly-unwinding, multi-layered story with a lot of exploration and plot happenings. Rayman 3 was one I played on PC, and outside of a sluggish camera system, it was fun, cute, and gorgeous. Expect more flinging of fists than in Rayman 2, though. The jumps aren't nearly as tough as in PS2's Maximo: Ghosts to Glory, and the cute little baddies are pretty bright. The AI is surprisingly tight for a cute little platformer (no flies on those Lums, ha ha)!

Those are about the only ones I'd recommend out of your "games already shipped/shipping" list. Oddworld I just didn't care for so I never finished it. The game play and plot seemed flat, and the controls a little overly-touchy. Maybe it got better when it passed the halfway point, who knows, but maybe you could rent it first if you're unsure.

I rented LOTR: Two Towers for Xbox, and I didn't care for that one, either. It seemed just a straightforward, uninspiring slasher game, but I didn't finish that one either. If a game doesn't grab me in the first few hours or so, I usually ditch it; after the simplistic, boring crapsterpiece that was LOTR: Fellowship of the Ring, I swore I'd rent all future LOTR action/adventures before shelling out full-priced dough ever again, and in this case I was glad I did.

Your mileage may vary. :D Rent anything you're unsure about if your local movie rental places offer that...
