Also I posted a couple stills in my twitter thread. It's been so much fun y'all, I never worked with that art style before. For the environments I grabbed the SE backgrounds, and they fit super well.

Oh man the WANTED list is so good. Lots of material for fun mental images. I guess they reported it but didn't bother to free Stan π Man, that gardener really can't stand Guybrush. I love the mental imagine of Wally calling the police, and then giving a report to an officer in his home. Also that Wally cleary sees Guybrush as a suspect. The responses in this thread are amazing btw. π₯°

There are some things that excite me a ton, and I would consider them "small details" that we rarely talk about. Please share your favorite things from the games that make you happy. Window Lights In the town of MΓͺlΓ©e Island you can see some window lights turn on and off. Changing location names on the map Some location names change when you visit them the first time.

That was my typo I couldn't find a german, no-commentary playthrough with subtitles turned on, so I wrote them myself.

In the german version of Escape they made a funny translation error. In his introduction, Charles L. Charles claims he is the future Governor of Monkey Islandβ’! Watching an english playthrough I suddenly remembered that small moment from 2000. Back then I didn't think it was an error at all. I was like, "Huh! Interesting!". Today I'm happy to discover that I wasn't misremembering things. Hear it for yourself in the video below

I know who'll play the amazing, adventurous, acrobatic, and exceedingly well-known, fabulous, flying Fettucini Brothers.

I don't think Elaine is underused in 1 and 2 at all. In SoMI you are right, she is an important character to the story, but only because Guybrush puts so much importance into rescuing her. He is acting as this is the most important thing of his life. But when you reunite with her in the church, she is like "Er, what are you doing here?". I love this because, while Guybrush only had her on his mind throughout his whole rescue mission, she never even thought of him. He is just a guy she met shortly before she got "kidnapped". (I'm not suggesting Guybrush is not important to her around that time, but he has nothing to do with her own goal of dealing with LeChuck at that time). In Monkey 2 it's even stronger: Elaine lives her new life on Booty Island, and Guybrush primarily sees her as an obstacle on his quest for getting a map piece. Her little role in this game works because there is a big distance between the two, and none of them are interested in getting back together (or, at least it's not their top priority at the time). All these things work for me so well is because the writing for Elaine suggests she is having a life off-screen, with own goals and desires that she is not sharing with Guybrush (and the player). So, I think the lack of Elaine is not a lack of writing. She just busy.

Until he visits Meathook. Rude! That, or she tries to stop him from doing something bad with the treasure. (Although, that doesn't cancel out your point, she still could care for his safety at that moment.)

(Made a post, then lost it. I reposted it below! π)

True, but to me this was Elaine simply looking for a one-night stand, and nothing serious (at that moment at least). I can see their relationship crumble not long after the credits of SoMI, when Guybrush won't shut up about how great he is. It is not a huge stretch to me either, that she would eventually fall in love with that dork. But it bums me out because the last time she saw him he was such a huuuge asshole. Since this is all I know about the two, it makes me yell at the screen "Nooo! You deserve better, Elaine! Find someone else, girl!". To me her love for Guybrush in Curse doesn't feel like lazy writing though, it just sounds like the game skipped a whole chapter where the two (and we) learn why they like like each other. Man, I wish we could learn what really happened after the end of Monkey 2...

I figured it out. That ghost is trying to deliver the ReMI trailer. No wonder it takes so long. π
-
Haha, I also thought these are Leia hair buns. The gender of them is hard to read, I always thought they're a woman.
-
Hold on! Both are delivery people. Aren't they colleagues?

SoMI Guybrush outfit is my favorite. By far. I love that it's very simple, black and white. And it makes me happy that he chose to wear something similar in EMI again. (Not disliking the others. I like the blue coat in LR, but mostly because it's a perfect continuation after SoMI, matching Guybrush new bloated ego.)
-
I love these box-carrying-ghost-pirate screens. π It looks like they got lost and have to ask around where the dock is. So much determination.

I always forget there is this special perspective, and I LOVE it. It's one of these many elements of SoMI that feel handcrafted. Aah, it's hard for me to explain... As a developer, I look at this and think "Today, someone would say we can't produce this room. It's too expensive for for just that. Either have more top-down rooms or change the perspective so we can re-use the standard sprites.". In the Unpopular Opinions thread it was mentioned that the parts after MΓͺlΓ©e Island are kind of "less" than what's going on in Part 1, but the vibe this specific room gives me is the reason I find the whole game exciting. The "emptyness" on Monkey Island doesn't feel like "less developer work", but actually like a relatively empty and lonely place. Aah! I love SoMI so much π₯°

Well you havenβt seen the other disastrous rounds I havenβt posted here.
