  1. I think they need to release a marketable baby version of Murray.
  2. Fair enough. I expect it to score three monkeys and a voodoo curse. I don't think so much hinges on the success or failure of RTMI. I would also like it to do well, if its good. And I really hope its good (and/or weird).
  3. Its 2022 and people still care about review scores? Christ, they are such an outdated concept. I hope at least some reviewers have interesting insights to make. To that end, I don't care about what score they give. Monkey Island has never sold huge numbers. I do expect this to be the best selling MI game, in terms of initial sales. But that's not much.
  4. 1 - I'm playing slowly, but I also have a fair amount of free time. If its a 10-20 hour casual playthrough like past games, I can play slow and still tear through it too fast. 2 - I've never solved a Monkey Island game on my own. I heavily used guides for all my first playthroughs of past games. I look forward to solving one without a guide. But I will use hints if I'm really stumped. 3 - I only consider spoilers to be major plot beats, shocking or surprising moments, and the final act of the story. None of the promotional material for RTMI so far qualifies as a spoiler by my standards. I respect people have different standards, but I think my definition of spoiler isn't uncommon either. I will be avoiding the spoiler thread, but look forward to reading it later. I think it will deepen my enjoyment of the game to read what other people think. But I also want the space to have my own thoughts.
  5. I like the fact the new pirate leaders were just willing to bully Guybrush. I love their voice acting, too. I'm also really loving the facial acting. I like that the zooms have returned, and I think they add dynamic shots to what could be quite static scenes. I hope the zooms get used for emphasis multiple times, and aren't just shown once. Less like how MI1 used zooms and more like how Full Throttle used zooms, to explain with examples.
  6. While we're posting simpsons clips, this was a direct parody of alt.tv.simpsons. The regulars of that community even recognized it as such. The reivews section of this FAQ is my source on this. https://www.simpsonsarchive.com/episodes/4F12.html Also, this line appeared in Super Paper Mario, a videogame from 2007. The whole section is a parody of the nerd stereotypes. People didn't wait for Super Paper Mario to come out, and give it a fair chance. They started judging it based on trailers. If you're not familiar with why people would complain about the game, it was changing gameplay styles significantly from previous instalments in the Paper Mario series. That was the point of contention. So this line made a lot of people mad. Nowadays, Super Paper Mario is still considered an odd entry in its series, but it has a generally positive reputation. I'm just throwing on some evidence of... something. I don't know what my point is. The economy of "complaining about games you haven't played" keeps on booming iguess? wow that sucks
  7. Mina is such a pretty name for Murray's friend. 🥺 Or maybe its just what note the skull played when you whack it. Thank god, because I'm so bad at music puzzles.
  8. If you can't purchase it, don't. Treat it like its abandonware, because it is for you, in your region. Just as a point of curiosity, this is how Tim Schafer feels about abandonware: (source + full context) https://web.archive.org/web/20051225151237/http://www.gamespot.com/gamespot/features/pc/abandonware/p2_04.html And this is how Ron Gilbert feels about The Cave: https://grumpygamer.com/about
  9. This one of the new pirate leaders is featuring quite prominently in the Gamescom marketing, aren't they? They have their own cardboard standee, and pin. They seem to be the only new character featured alongside the reoccuing ones. It gives the impression that they're going to be a big part of the narrative. I mean, we already knew the new pirate leaders were going to be a big part of things, but now its like, especially this one. Maybe they're the leader of the new pirate leaders. Or maybe not, and they just had to pick one pirate leader to represent all three. Also, I'm not just doing that Jojo's Bizzare Adventure fan thing where I see Jojo references in everything, right? The character appears to have a fusion of hat and hair akin to Jotaro Kujo, right? I can most see it on the art on the pin. I guess we can't be sure until we all get a good look in-game at the character, but I hope so. Jotaro's hair/hat is cool as hell, and I'd be glad to be right. Anyway I just wanted to say I think they look cool.
  10. show the horse armour to everyone like its your attorneys badge
  11. I feel so bad for all involved, the development cycle for Spaceventures sounds like its been an absolute nightmare. I hope the devs make a good number of sales, enough to take a nice vacation. I hope RTMI doesn't overshadow it, but raises interest in all adventure games around it. If the two games end up having any relationship to each other, I hope it can be a positive one. OK so I'm also not going to buy it lol. I'm also just not a Space Quest fan. I might, either if I hear its good or if its an interesting trainwreck.
  12. PC, but with a Switch Pro controller. This is just what is easiest for me right now.
  13. Congratulations to all the "talk like a pirate day" believers. You win!
  14. Well, I said Winston and Anenome were queer, not gay. Anenome seems pretty clearly nonbinary, at least to me. But if Anenome isn't offering answers, I'm not asking. Yes, there are some script issues with the handing of nonbinary characters in Tales. I could make up headcanons to excuse the writing, or I can just say the script writers didn't know how to write nonbinary characters. Its a 14 year old game, they can cop it. Tales could and should have done better. But the merfolk are ultimately likeable and funny characters. They're pretty good, could have been better. There are also representation issues, with only nonhuman characters being nonbinary. Tales is also a part of this trend. Individual examples aren't inheriently the problem, its a problem with the sum of media. I just wanted to point this criticism out, I have no big solution. I have one solution. Cool nonbinary human character in RTMI. or I will CANCEL Rob Gilbert ok this sentence is a joke. (seriously: since I'm describing a broad trend across all media here, one game can never be THE solution, but it can be a part of it) hell yeah You're also right about queer coded villains. I think its more fun to speculate in the here and now. But if MI had only one queer character for seventeen years and it was a cruel little minor villain, it wouldn't have been great. Tales kinda gets away with De Singe, because it has more queer coded characters than just him. If De Singe was the only queer character in Tales, it would have been really bad. Its really interesting seeing the dress get a critical reassessment in current times. The content of the game hasn't changed, but society has around it.
  15. I hope you two don't mind if I join the conversation here. I'll keep it going, unfortunately. 🙂 1. I might have some feelings on Guybrush headcanons, . skip 2. I love the merfolk. I think they're great characters. But also, if there was a Skunkape Tales remaster or something, there's some lines of dialogue around them that I would like to see changed. I think the jokes where Guybrush's uncertainty around their gender identities are the punchline, are the worst bit. The bit I would want changed. I get it about the flirting stuff and agree - but I also think a lot of it is extremely cute and endearing. It is dated, but it makes me smile. Is Winslow and Anenome the first queer couple between main NPCs in Monkey Island? I really don't know, I very much could be forgetting some characters. Either way, I think they're a great couple. I love them. 3. Largo LeGrande. Trying to justify the bra joke in retrospect wouldn't be great, imo. It just seems embarrassing to go back on it like that. "Oh, you thought the bra joke was queerphobic? We were just trying to tell you he was actually queer all along" or something. Eugh. To be clear, I'm not opposed to Largo being canonically trans. Or somebody having a headcanon based on the bra. Its only the specific combination that I mentioned which would be a problem.
  16. This is great! And all that extra work into making all the subtitles work and sync was so well-done and worth it. Thanks for also taking the time to explain the process.
  17. Not just one, but it was an entire fad! There's a ton of these on YTMND. I like this first-person/FPS styled one a lot. https://stansellseverything-thegame.ytmnd.com/
  18. Looks like the shop across the way is in trouble. (Screenshot taken during the video fadein, which is why its so dark)
  19. REMI is going to let Guybrush drop several f-bombs.
  20. No strong opinions on Jess Harnell. He has a solid career and this one line is a good performance. Leans a bit more into the cartoony side, although that could just be from the words spoken in this line. I like it fine. Also I am loving the lip flap animations in this game. They really remind me of the exaggerated head-bobbing of old, but you know its also new and HD and different and a new spin at the same time. I'm sure this has been discussed in this thread before, but LeChuck's lip wagging animation reminded me. Still looks good. gross tongue, man 👅👍
  21. it turns out ninjas were better than pirates all along, and both guybrush and lechuck are defeated by ninjas.
  22. he's seen the herman toothrot discussion itt and decided he needs to weigh in edit: serious answer. we haven't heard from Elaine yet, and I want to hear from her. But my money's still on a bit of a gag like HT or something tbh.
