  1. I think it would have been funnier if Boybrush and Chuckie were actually brothers. Those would have been some wild genetics, and a funny naming method for your two children. Oh well. In an MI continuity where Guybrush and Elaine didn't get married, I think its very likely Dee would have instead been baby Elaine in the park. This is just personal speculation of course. But still. It's a good thing Guybrush and Elaine did get married, or we wouldn't have been treated to those amazing anchor facts. I don't think Elaine would have known that much about anchors. Nobody knows more than Dee.
  2. I haven't gone for this either, but there's two guides on Steam. (note to lurkers: both these guides contain full game spoilers) https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2866331468 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=286760748 Sorry if you already saw these. Actual speedrunners seem to have a community-imposed embargo on themselves, although it sounds like they're already talking in their discord. https://www.speedrun.com/return_to_monkey_island/news/2561 I understand their decision is for the good of their community and agree with it. It is bit of a shame for achievement hunters currently, oh well. Though actual speedrunners tend to use more demanding techniques, I'm really curious as to what details their routing will provide. It could still be of use to those of us seeking the achievement. We'll find out I guess. Just gotta wait a week.
  3. Its an "the adventure continues"! ending. 🥲 I'm really take it or leave it with new ones. I would actually really love this to be the end. Its not a perfect ending, but a sequel wouldn't answer my lingering questions. And I'm satisfied with my visit. You go home from the park one day, not knowing it was that visit which was going to be your last. that sounds dark. oops i didn't mean for it to be dark. ok so. complaining about the ending time. I never understood people who really wanted a resolution for Largo LaGrande, he's an extremely minor villain who bullies Guybrush for a bit, and then acts as somebody for LeChuck to bounce dialogue off of. No real need to resolve him. who cares. But, oh no! My hubris! I want more from the new pirate leaders! What's with them? What was Lila's deal? What happened to Madison? Where did Trent disappear to? What were their goals and motives in the end? Were they an analogy for Gen Z, and if so, to what end? And these are questions I know a sequel might never resolve, or only tease me about, because the franchise has a history of doing so. I'm feelin' Largo fans right now, is what I'm saying. After all, all the new pirate leaders really do is bully Guybrush and then serve as characters for LeChuck to bounce dialogue off of. And I know the door's open to my own interpretations. but my honest, whiny ass feelings right now are this: I don't want interpretation of the new pirate leaders, i want lore. I'm not entitled to lore, and I know that. I don't feel like I'm owed lore. I can't and won't demand lore. but tbh I do honestly want it. I know I just sound petty here and I'm sorry. I just need to be embarrassingly honest. I need to post this cringe right now, just get it out of my system so I can work through it. secret of new pirate leaders I guess the new pirate leaders were not even that gen Z in the end. THIS IS SPARTA was more a millennial thing yanno? Gen Z say Yeet, amirite? o those wacky kidz with their tittaks
  4. I finished the game a few hours ago and. I have SO MANY feelings and NO IDEA how to articulate them. I like the ending. I don't love it. Its not a perfect ending. When are they ever? It leaves me feeling emotionally satisfied. I still have some lingering thoughts and questions, and not in a tantalising way. I had a big smile on my face when I saw the older Elaine, and I love Boybrush too. I think I laughed out loud when I learned what the secret was. I was so engrossed, I don't remember. I'm neither excited or disappointed by things being left up to interpretation, because they would be no matter what. I'm not sad to learn the series has some element of fiction to it, because it was always fiction. And everyone knows what a headcanon is, in current year. I don't need the series' permission to interpret it however I want, and was already doing so. But its also not a bad thing for MI to actively show me that the door is open, either. And the art was stunning! Social media jpg compression, and my personal usage of blueblocker screen display modes, really didn't do it justice. Less compressed, beautiful, animated, bright, and in game, it was gorgeous from start to finish. I thought I'd only think the art was "good" and "an interesting style" but fuck me it was so much more.
  5. I'm playing on PC with a Switch Pro controller, and the controls ARE very nice! I have the option to do so, but will not be changing to a mouse. I almost think this game could have been better designed for controller than mouse? You still only get two verbs at a time for each object, even though a controller has more face buttons? Not that its a bad thing, as it would have advantaged controller players to do otherwise, but. I'd be a little cautious about trying other point and clicks, though. I played Hypnospace Outlaw on the Switch and that was a poor choice lol (it had controlling-the-cursor-with-a-joystick controls).
  6. Got an extremely mild bug in my last play session. Guybrush didn't stop his walking animation during a dialogue tree, and kept walking on the spot while talking. This is a very common glitch throughout gaming, and I just found it funny. Didn't mind it one bit. I hope other people are also blessed to see it somewhere in their playthrough.
  7. In Tales, Elaine squarely places the blame on Guybrush for turning her into a statue (It's during a scene in TOMI part 4, when she's been summoned to testify in court). Elaine was affected by the pox of LeChuck at the time, and giving a very negative spiel about the guy (brush) as a result, but still. I guess kind of feel the same way as @BaronGrackle here, if I'm reading their viewpoint right. The line about LeChuck seeing Elaine as furniture, as objectifying her, has potential to be powerful commentary. But compared with the reality it seems off. And it can be explained by an unreliable narrator! It's not a satisfying explaination imo, but it is one. Its unsatisfying because if you look at the events of Curse, and the scrapbook lines from Guybrush in RTMI, it really sounds like Guybrush is the one ACTUALLY treating Elaine like furniture. And that's icky, isn't it. Don't like it. come on guy, yanno Although I'll play along and go with the RTMI telling of CMI being canon for the story of RTMI, why not. The TOMI Elaine spiel I'm talking about also contains a bit of a retcon I don't like (That the ending if MI2 was Guybrush intentionally abandoning her) (I guess poxed Elaine's also a bit of an unreliable narrator here).
  8. Well, I didn't need an explaination, so I'm not upset I didn't really get one. I was just saying. Weird ending forever!
  9. Oh my god kid Guybrush is so cute! Awwww I love him I love him I love ahem anyway, wait a minute this doesn't explain MI2's ending. It makes things more confusing. Are we going to see a new perspective on the whole ordeal? Will we get an explaination even in this game? Or will it just be a weird ending forever? Is what Curse made of it the official explaination forever now? (all questions are rhetorical only, people who actually know, don't answer) Anyway, back on topic, guybrush jr is so cute, don't you think? he's so cute. I wish you could make him drink the brown water in the outhouse, he's so cute.
  10. I hope she has a deep voice. I wouldn't mind any voice, but yeah. We've heard the pirate leaders voices in one of the Monkey Island Mondays. Honestly, for the short one, it didn't really clarify anything. It's a voice that could belong to a person of any gender. Technically, every voice in the world could belong to anyone of any gender, but you know what I mean. I never thought Wally was a child, but I also didn't play MI in any logical order my first time through the series so. I can see how people would make that mistake if CMI was their only perspective on the character.
  11. The secret is revealed in the early game, so the narrative can spend time really digging into its ramifications. Anywhere from starting the game to the beginning of the second act, is what I mean by earlygame. The secret raises a new peril, which the rest of the story focuses on resolving. There is only one secret. This is as much of a prediction as a wishlist. I don't mind if it goes another way. I tried so hard to come up with a prediction that isn't just what I wanted to happen, and this is the closest I came. I'm also trying to go a different way than other posters so I can be either be spectacularly right or spectacularly cringe. Also, if I'm allowed a low stakes mini-prediction: There will be a situation where Wally gets one over Guybrush, a role reversal of the dynamic they had in MI2.
  12. I've watched, and there is a section where they bleep Guybrush's dialogue.
  13. Oh Wally, you shouldn't have. 😳 Also, Otis is going to start a flame war with those kind of compliments lol.
  14. in asia-pacific time zones (including Australia and New Zealand), the release date on Steam is shown as the 20th. Sometimes, on Switch, you can play a game a few hours earlier if you set your country to Australia or New Zealand or another GMT+11 timezone. I've seen people online saying its worked for first party Nintendo titles in the past, but I can't guarantee it'll work here. I've also never personally tried it, because I've never been keen enough on a switch game to want it ASAP + I already live in Australia, so my switch country is already there.
  15. It was interesting hearing about how Tales was sprung on everybody. I remember Ron being very prominently credited, so it seems funny to hear how surprisingly it came about. I feel like Ron might have taken a bigger role in it, if he was given a chance. It's a shame, but that's all in the past now, so oh well. I think its cool they were playtesting on both fans, and new players. Dave's not under NDA! Quick, get the secret out of him! Guybrushlbm. Catchy name. Not as much as Ifnkovhgroghprm, but they could still be mates. I'm interested in the multiple endings. I wonder if it'll just be subtle differences based on seemingly inconsequential player choices, like MI1. I always thought that was a neat feature. It'll also be fun to see people discussing which endings they get on the first playthrough, if that's the case.
  16. I have nothing to apologise for, Jake. I was a lurker. . The Telltale forums are still around and active. There's a huge thread of five people asking for Minecraft Story Mode 3 and I am fascinated by the people so in love with Minecraft Story Mode. I'm too old to relate I guess. The Telltale TOMI forum isn't even closed, people just aren't using it. They have their own RTMI thread, even! It has eight posts and hasn't seen a new one since May.
  17. The june digital devolver trailer (this one) versus the latest trailer:
  18. I think they should release Monkey Island 8 days early, out of respect for the Queen.
  19. Steam does an authentication check on program startup, but that's all. Steam also has an offline mode, so you don't need to connect to the internet at all after you've started the program. It just checks the internet once, its not always online. So unless RTMI uses DRM other than the basic Steam authentication (hypothetically possible but not likely) you should be good. Its about as much to deal with as the Switch's DRM, now I think about it. However, it seems the Switch has other advantages for you, so go for it. Just clearing up how Steam works.
  20. I got into MI with the previous last game in the series (Tales), so I can see some people playing RTMI as their first. They probably just won't be the people preordering and buying it on day one. Doesn't matter. When I got into MI, I was aware there were existing fans twice my age. There's still existing fans twice my age. But now, its my turn to be twice as old as some newer fans. I should be feeling old I guess, but I'm actually excited about it. . You can get ScummVM working on a homebrew'd Switch, if you're desperate for portable Monkey Island. It has controller (move cursor with the joystick) and touchscreen support, according to the ScummVM website. I haven't tried ScummVM on Switch, so I can't say from personal experience. Also, homebrewing your Switch is a WHOLE can of worms, do not do it on a lark.
