Chemically dependant while staring through French Windows

yesterday I was at my brothers work for my first day on the job.

I had no idea what his company did. I still do not, it involves

chemicals. Why is it that every job I work at involves chemicals?

anyhow in the morning before they were ready to have me do the

data entry work I was hired to do they had me doing other office

work. Like telephoning companies to ask for 2004 NAFTA cetificates

for toxic goo. And I was such an asset to the company. My very first

call, first reponse question was; okay Nafta certificates for what

product? 'I don't know' okay who normally does your buying can I

talk to them, 'errr, I don't know' well what's your telephone number

so we can call back to talk to someone else who does; uhhhmmmmm....

telephone number. anyhow after many bumbling moments I made all my

calls. Then the real fun began. My job is to record all data entry

for all this companies clients, address etc. My brother is the guy

the data is for so I don't want to screw up and make his life hell.

BUT I now know why I was hired and no one else wanted to do the job.

Their Head Office is in Quebec, the software to enter my data is all

in french. The tutorial is in french, the manual; oui! c'est francais.

Using a new computer is one thing, learning a new program another,

BUT doing so in french. Glad I have some familiarity with computers

as such, because when a dialogue box pops up; I have to think to myself,

(a) what would a computer want to know right now

and (b) I know like 2 words in the entire dialogue box,

so I hope the message is saying this; because I am about to click oui.

I will be staring through these french windows until years end.

(all the while inhaling chemicals.) at the very least it is something

to put on the old resume.

<edit> day two surfed the web using a french browser</edit>

*and oh yes! lets not forget how much my eyes hurt at quiting time.*

actually as jobs goes it is okay. the chemicals are outside so i dont actually smell them. and i am getting the hang of the program, there is a lot of data to enter, and since this data is what my beither uses to send driivers out with, I am making sure i do it right. the company is good, they want it done propperly and not oh hurry up, who cares if its wrong.

no in the past i have worked retail for x-mas and that is hell. i saw on the tele last night, one of the bigger store chains is having a midnifgt madness sale on the 23rd. i mean if you work in the public sector; anywhere you get crazy desperate people, trying to enjoy the holidays but losing patience with all the teaming humanity around them. and then tthey get ticked at the sales staff. i mean the sales staff makes minimum wage. they are made to work long hours with no prpper breaks at all. for the last weeks before x-mas you wake, shower if you are lucky, grab food on the run, go to work, work all day with no break, go home eat something quick and then crash and burn into your bed, only to repeat the whole thing again. and then they decide to have extra midnight madness sales. and when do you the staff find time to shop for gifts or food for the holiday? you dont. and then now here in north america, Canada anyhow they have like boxing day sales that go on for a week.

then...after all that hard work, and because business is slow, they put you out to pasture.

a french computer weirds as it is, is still useable. and i have a nice office chair to sit in instead of wearing my feet off, and forcing a smile saying holiday greetings, because you cant single out a single holiday anymore do to PC (political correctness)

I actually kind of like this job, it is just unusual, what with a foreign computer. (everyone elses computers speak english) or bill gates american. mine speaks bill gates french.:D
