Pie™
I can't really get over what a disappointment War Of The Ring Was... Not original, short, and you could only have 100 units (trolls and Huorns took up 5 pop each, so make it out yourself) Well, so how about Battle For Middle Earth? it's made by the creators of C&C (i think), and the graphics look awesome! One of the things that disapointed me with WotR was that with the movies i had really gotten pictures of how people/places looked, and WotR couldnt copy that... the movies also had Alan Lee and John Howe on their team, the two lead tolkien artists. Battle for middle earth is gonna be movie-based, and is gonna keep the looks! Screenshots: Oliphants! Sweet.... Fell-Beasts!!!
IG-64
yup, looks like an awsome movie based game
The_One
It does look damn bloody good There's a trailer floating around for it somewhere too... I think there's a 5000 unit limit - which is pretty good, but not quite up there with Total War. Ideally you'd want 200,000 to do the Battle of the Pelennor any justice whatsoever, but you can't have everything
legameboy
No no no. You get Rome: Total War and wait for a Middle-Earth mod. That's what you do.
Kylilin
wow that game looks great, is for the pc?

Samuel Dravis
Looks OK, but don't you want 10,000 troop armies (and no typical RTS unit cap either)? A LotR mod for Rome: Total war would be much better. RTW Elephant RTW Elephant 2 - Looks similar to an Oliphaunt already (duh); no problem modding/skinning it to exactly the same. Lots of guys - I like this kind of war. Hilltop - Umm. Gandalf at the top of the hill, TTT Helm's deep battle. I can see it now. Castle Siege - Looks awesome. TTT/RotK again. Cavalry vs. foot soldiers - Straight out of RotK, Rohirrim vs. Orcs. Castle Siege 2 - Again, castles are awesome.Watch those guys die. In-city fighting - RotK Minas Tirith battle... And remember - all building are destroyable, and all cities + some buildings show up on the strategic map. The map is of the entire continent of Europe (which will almost surely be editable into a map of Middle Earth) - you direct exactly where your armies go in a province, unlike MTW. The map is one big map - as big as Europe. That big enough for you? Rome: Total War website BTW, is Empires DotMW moddable?
legameboy
80,000? That seems too much for that game... maybe it's just me... maybe I need to go try the demo... maybe... *goes and plays Crimsonland*

Samuel Dravis
I was just reading a review and it is, apparently. It seems to be more of a tactical game than strategic though. I don't know how well large battles would go over on it (it can only display 1000 units on the screen at once?). You'd need at least 10,000 units to have even Helm's Deep. IG-64
correction: You can only fit 1000 guys on the screen at once, you would have to zoom out alot to see all 80000 guys
Samuel Dravis
Is that 40K on each side max? Or 80K each (which would fill up all the tiles)?
IG-64
What? For the map size?
Samuel Dravis
Sorry; I meant how many units you can get on a map at once.
IG-64
80000 overall i belive
Samuel Dravis
I'll have to try the demo to get a feel of the gameplay, but that's a nice number of units. What are the maps like - tiled maps like AoM with limited vertical height or ones like in MTW or an FPS?
IG-64
tiled, everything is pretty squared out
Samuel Dravis
I see; that's probably where they had the tradeoff between number of units vs. AI complexity vs. terrain variation. I'll still have to try it though - sounds fun.
IG-64
ya, it's a good game, got great graphics, kinda has a AoM feel to it
Samuel Dravis
Yeah, although I still need to learn modelling so I can make cool stuff for RTW when it comes out...perhaps even help with a LotR mod. Oh well, I have an entire year.
swphreak
There is also a LotR mod for CnC Generals, but it's pointless since EALA is making the game. I think Battle for Middle Earth will be better than some "mod", and I can't wait til the finish it.
XERXES
looks allright, nothin special. just another RTS game to add to the millions.
Redwing
It looks...okay. Keep in mind I'm all about prettiness, and while the graphics for the game look fun, the art looks...hm. I dunno. Maybe I'd love it.
