MennoniteHobbit
Good enough. At least your learning. And yes, it is enough to prove that you are. And translated, what I said before was: "I am Vietnamese. If you are too, and you are not lying, then you should send me an email back to me. Happy new year, it is 2004!" btw, it is normal for traditional Vietnamese people to not have air conditioning. I know since my grandfather had never gotten A/C until two years ago. Odd, isnt it? Even Im not accustomed to 102 degree weather. Oh well. Have you ever been to Vietnam? I haven't.
Mike Windu
hehehe, thats cool. Most of my family is still in Vietnam, on both my father and mothers side, but all my grandparents are deceased... How old are you Hobbit? Druid_Allanon
I'm in the Year of the Snake... Year of the Snake People born in the year of the Snake are romantic and deep-thinking, wise and charming, although they tend to dismiss others too quickly and are a bit stingy with money. Ideal jobs include teaching or psychiatry. How inaccurate... I'm not stingy with money, in fact, I'm very generous. Neither do I dismiss others too quickly. But I'm romantic, yeah. Darth Eggplant
An Introduction, Grasshopper 2637 BC was when chinese astrology began in the 61st year of emperor's Huang Ti's reign. a complete cycle of the chinese zodiac takes 120 years to complete, the 77th cycle of the chinese zodiac started on feb 5th, 1924 and it will not complete itself until the year 2044. according to legend buddha summoned all the animals to come and see him, before he departed the earth. only 12 came to bid him farewell. so as a reward he named a year of the zodiac after each animal which came to pay him their respects. the 12 animals came in this order: the rat the ox the tiger the rabbit the dragon the snake the horse the sheep the monkey the rooster the dog and the boar the complete cycle consists of 12 animal signs each animal sign also has five elemental signs and each element also has two stems called positive and negative (as in Yin and Yang) so the math 12x5=60(x2)=120 years. the five elements are wood (ruled by the planet Jupiter) fire (ruled by the planet mars) earth (ruled by the planet saturn) metal (ruled by the planet venus) water (ruled by the planet mercury) the lunar calendar begins each day at 11pm and the 24 hours of a day are divided into twelve sections of two hours each. each time period is ruled by a different animal sign as in western astrology the animal in the hour of your birth factors into a persons personality. the year of the fire horse is considered extremely unlucky in chinese superstiton, just like the black cat, chinese people try to avoid having children in the year of the fire horse. the last year of the fire horse was in 1967 (do we have any winners in the Pagoda?) places are people too. not only do people have chinese astrology signs, so too do countries and as such these atributes help define the nation it was born into. an example of this is the United States of America which was founded in 1776 (year of the monkey) other examples are France 1958 (year of the dog) Canada 1867 (year of the rabbit) Hong Kong 1842 (year of the tiger) talk to the animals compatability among the 12 signs just like the elemental signs in western astrology there are triads of compatability among the animal signs of the chinese horoscope, they are as follows: the action doers: Rat, Dragon & Monkey the steadfast: Ox, Snake & Rooster the seekers: Tiger, Horse & Dog the emotional guides: Rabbit, Sheep & Boar when animals attack! incompatibilty among the 12 signs signs which are directly opposite one another on the wheel of chinese astrology often make the most imcompatable matches amongst people thus these animals don't play well together: rat ~ horse ox ~ sheep tiger ~ monkey rabbit ~ rooster dragon ~ dog snake ~ boar horse ~ rat sheep ~ ox monkey ~ tiger rooster ~ rabbit dog ~ dragon boar ~ snake and now I'm going to start dancing like a monkey! The Year of the Wood Monkey everything will be workable this year. there will be success in even impossible ventures. there will be inventiveness & improvisations. politics, finance and diplomacy will engage in a giant poker game trying to out bluff one another. an amusing and exciting year when people will be given the opportunity to try their hand in the game. no direct confrontations in this year and people will be able to laugh at their mistakes & antics. a year for trying to get a better deal by outsmarting the other guy, and because this will be going on quite a bit, it may be hard to decide who is really getting the upper hand in many situations. an extremely progressive year. the lucky imp of a monkey will urge us on this year to gamble, speculate and exploit opportunities whenever and wherever possible. the year of the monkey is not a year for the slow witted or faint at heart. the motto for this year is: "Don't take No for An Answer!" because people are born under the influence of the monkey certain similarity traits in personality will exist, however, because there are 5 different elemnts for each animal sign, each different person, born into a year of the monkey will also be different from one another too. year of the Monkey similarity traits: (positive side) Intelligent, charming, clever, quick witted, flexible year of the Monkey similarity traits: (negative side) inborn superiority complex, not enough respect for others, selfish, egotistical, vain, jealous, too competative the five types of monkeys Metal Monkeys born in 1920 & 1980 this is the fighting monkey, strong, sophisticated and independant, they have an irrepressable urge for financial security. capable of making wise investments this type of monkey prefers to run their own business and earn outside money, outside their regular income. this monkey is consistent and able to hold onto savings so long as they do not speculate in risky investments. metal monkeys have high aspirations and may seem to be status seeking and over dramatic. metal mnkeys are warm, positive and very convincing, metal monkeys are excellent trend setters. when being negative this monkey is exceedingly self conscious and proud. hard working and practical this monkey does not like assistance from others and prefers to take care of their own business. Water Monkeys born in 1932 & 1992 a co-operative but speculative monkey, you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours kind of person. a dignified monkey, yet easily offended, more so than all the other types of monkeys. a kind nature, yet rather secrative, deft and patient while in pursuit of their objectives. this type of monkey will not be too obvious in showing their intentions, they are able to compromise with grace and work around obsticles, rather than wasting time going around them or trying to move them out of their way. water monkeys have a flair for originality, they are self motivated, and their ideas meet with litle friction because of the ways in which the water monkeys present them. water monkeys have akeen understanding of human relationships. whenbeing negative however, they are erratic, evassive and suffer from a lack of direction. Wood Monkey born in 1944 & 2004 (unless you were born in 1944 or can telepathically communicate with babies, chances are between now and 2064, you are not going to know a person with a wood monkeys personality, however for the record...) good communicatin skills with others, they are not likely to pry into the affairs of others, they pride themselves in keeping their house and accounts in good order. basically honorable and desires prestige, this monkey has a strong pioneering spirit. very aware of their surroundings and curious about new inventions and modes of thinking. n intuative mind with the forsight to see the course of events. always seeks answeres for questions, and is able to take set backs calmly. Fire Monkeys born in 1956 & *2016* (once again, unless you were born in 1956 or can travel forward in time to 2016 and beyond, chances are you are not going to know a person with a fire monkeys personality, however for the record...) an energetic monkey who will show great traits of being a natural leader, self assured, inovative and determined. very interested in the opposite sex. full of vitality and likely to dominate those less aggressive than themselves. someone with a very fetile immagination. constant drive to be ontop of their game or in their field, very competative and extremely jealous, creativity born of willpower will always make the fire monkey one step ahead of the game. likes to be in full control, stubborn and argumentative. very lucky and good at calulating risks. on the negative side has morbid obbessions and is paranoid that everyone around them, is trying to deceive them. Earth Monkeys born in 1968 & *2028* a placid and reliable monkey. a cool and collective nature. an expansive personality and is given to altruistic acts of charity. quietly demands appreciation and admiration. and will sulk and become insolent if they do not recive the appreciation and admiration they believe they are entitled to. intellectual and academically minded. honest and straight forward and will acheive distinction through thouroughness and devotion to duty. the earth monkey will not be overly fond of entertaining, unless it is neccessary. kind and nt too concerned about their ego, They make good priests, artists and politicians. although I think according to the Chinese year (the new year dates are different), my birthday was before the year of the dragon in 1988, so i think im supposed to be a rabbit? i dont know im not sure...
