XERXES
well since there was a Led Zeppelin one...and parts of it started to become off topic with Pink Floyd I decided to dedicate a thread to the Floyd so it doesnt hijack the Zepp thread. So... List your favourite songs...or whole albums. There was a lot of drug contraversy with this band (Zeppelin too) but I wish to keep this thread clean and about the music itself have fun. Darkside is in a category of its own when it comes to PF albums...hehe I also enjoy these two the most Atom Heart Mother Meddle Piper at the Gates of Dawn is very nice too...it has to grow on you before you will actually listen to it and not get weirded out. Datheus
I own all the albums I like the most. Animals Dark Side of the Moon The Division Bell The Wall Wish You Were Here Really, each song on those albums is my favorite. That's why they're such great albums. But: Have A Cigar High Hopes Run Like Hell Comfortably Numb Nobdy Home Dogs Fearless I can never decided if whether Pink Floyd or Tool is my favorite band... Kengo
I love the sheer musical quality and diversity of Dark Side, the desperate rallying of The Wall and the vageuly Orwellian bits of Animals. Time is one of my favourite songs of theirs, great beat and a great set of lyrics. Wish you Were Here is really touching, and I like the epic Shine on your Crazy Diamond and Echoes too. Hey You is also very enjoyable, and of course Another Brick in the Wall is just an all time classic. There early stuff with Barrett was interesting, if...amazingly weird (even by the standards of their later work). Surely one of the best bands in rock history, wouldn't it be great (if unlikely) if they got back together properly (Roger Waters and all). Miko Reglia
yes! finally a Pink Floyd thread!!! sorry, theyre just my favorite band... For favorite albums? Well of course "The Dark Side of the Moon" and "The Wall" are their greatest, but then again "Animals" and "Wish You Were Here" are great to listen to when your in the mood for something else. The Live CD to "Ummagumma" is great, the Studio side is just freaky... For favorite songs? Well, Money of course, because I know how to play it on Bass, and its just awsome...Wish You Were Here, because that was the song that got me into them in the first place...then there's Dogs, Echoes, and Shine On You Crazy Diamond which are just unbelievable considering how Pink Floyd can figure out and think of all those notes and such to play, making those songs 18-22 min long approximately. Then there's also Astronomy Domine which is my favorite track during the Syd Barrett years, and Careful With That Axe, Eugene for something different...and See Emily Play if your down with that psychadelic mood... And I can go on and on...I'm just gonna stop now, but yeah, obviously I like them a lot! By the way, I wanted to get your thoughts on this. Do you think Pink Floyd was better off with or without Roger Waters? Because I thought they were at their best with him, and without him they made 2 great albums, but they just didn't compare to the older stuff that Roger was on... Maybe, but I've never understood why everyone held Waters on such a high pedestal. Before Waters, there was Barrett. Barrett was supposed to be key to the band, no one thought the rest of Floyd was important. Similarly, I think after Waters' depature, The Division Bell is definitely Gilmore's masterpiece. It rivals much of the original, older work.
