I have the book, but I've never read it all the way through. Someday...

There was a 'Salem's Lot movie already, I believe. Perhaps the first King story to be made into a film. It was a stinker if I remember correctly... Maybe this one will be better.

The King books I'd love to see on film:

The Gunslinger Series

The Talisman (and the Sequel, Black House)

Eyes Of The Dragon

No self respecting person can say they have read truly great literature until they have read The Stand. Best book ever. Period.

I'd like to see them make a movie of that one that doesn't star Molly Ringwald, have the word "mini-series" in it, and doesn't have you convinced that all the actors are reading their lines off of a karioke machine.

Crappy Movie. Awsome book. Read it, read it, read it.

There is a movie version of Salems Lot already, and it is by far one of the worst movies ive seen in my entire life. Do NOT see it, at any costs :p It's a waste of your life....

Stephen Kings books are good books... usually... and should be left as books.

I cant say that I've read much of Mr Kings work. I did see some movie about a guy and his mum who were vampires and cats surrounded their house because the cats knew they were vampires(I think cats are cool thats why that has stuck in my mind). SK did a cameo in this too IIRC. I loved the first part of the IT tv series, but the ending was just shyte.... oh yeah, and I did see the *original* Shining...... heeeeerrrrrreeee's Johnny !

Yes, if you only read one more book, read the Stand. I had never read SK's works, and always pushed him off as a creepy weirdo kind of guy, but I was browsing amazon.com and stumbled across the Stand. Everyone said that it was the best thing since sliced bread, so, I gave it a shot.

It is by far the most compelling, interesting, intense, thought provoking, and entertaining fiction book I have ever read. Can't say it's the best book I've ever read, since I have a thing for Fantasy, but straight up fiction, there's nothing better.

All the characters are so relateable that at the end of it, you really care about what happened to them (be it glad/pissed that they died/lived, you care)

Just plain awsome. I was just flipping through it the other day and had to reshelve it because I started re-reading it when i really don't want to.

So, yeah, read the Stand and you'll remember it forever.

And once again, stay away from the mini-series at all cost. It will forever leave a taint on the book and make you defend it to others. "No, the book's great. Really it is. I know the movie sucked, but the book is great. Really." That sort of thing.

Grrrrr. Darn made for tv movies.

Well, I can't say I hold up a lot of hope for the new Salem's Lot. I remember watching the old movie with David "Hutch" Soul in it, and it was appalling. I'd have written to Mr King demanding a refund of my 2 hours if it hadn't meant wasting more time  Although it has to be said that this was a mini-series which was truncated hugely for it's video release, so obviously a lot of stuff's going to be lost.

I've also had traumatic experiences with King's other Mini-Series ventures in the past. Although if I'm being honest, I'm not a fan of his writing :( Don't get me wrong, I have utmost respect for the bloke, but I can't understand how The Shawshank Redemption and Needful Things can come out of the same mind  ...

//slaps wrist

Ah well, here's hoping for good things :)
