Beastie's Graduation Party

Recommended Posts

:king1:

That's right folks, it's over (again).

This morning, at approximately 11:23, I officially became a graduate of the University of Ottawa. Bachelor of Arts, English Honours program (though, admittedly, not cum laude --a handful of individual [prerequisite] courses were further from real world logic and sense [and usefullness] than I was prepared to go, and my marks suffered).

Drinks, once again, are on Niner. Nitro and/or Jem will provide DJ services (unless someone else volunteers). Since the humidex is currently something like +32 Celsius (on a 26-degree base temperature), and I just spent over four hours stuffed into a 200-capacity room with ~400 fellow graduates, I'll be resting and daydreaming about the staggeringly cute brunette ( :hearteye: ) I spent most of the ceremony and all of the post-ceremony luncheon flirting with (yeah, I know how it's gonna end, but right now I'm enjoying it. Ta hell with Schroedinger's Boyfriend). No reason though why you guys can't heed my sig.

The question isn't the state of the cat, its whether the cat is in the box or not.

Good work on teh college thing. Or something. I've never been one for that whole "congratulating" thing mainly because I can't spell the word right half teh time and I either put "congrats" or "congrads" and I stop caring. Seventeen years of education and you get people that can't spell. :o:rolleyes::o

I myself hope to someday accumulate enough credits that they throw me out of college and say that I graduated. Only a mere five and a half years for my B.A.! Hooray, I'm learning. Then off to (Penn State, Florida State, U. Southern California, Houston, Rice, American, Georgetown, George Washington) for my Masters.

Congrats Beastie. I hope your degree can be found useful. A lot of college degree holders are working in jobs unrelated to what they studied in college. Considering you were an English major, I hope you find a job in writing, editing, or publishing. :D

One of these days I'm gonna have to go back and upgrade my old high school marks and try and hit up some university...

I got my learn on... Went to college. Two years and $8000 later, the best job I can get is being a phone monkey for an ISP.

I'm looking at writing as a career (I suck at math, and I don't have the patience to deal with stupid people, so writing is really all I can do). Right now I'm doing the short story thing, but I may end up writing for film or comics at some point --I want to do serial stories, and those are almost impossible to sell to text-based markets until you're a Big Name. Also, film is one of the few industries where a fiction-writer can make a half-decent living.

Hmmmm... I could use a good writer. I've got film ideas coming out my ass, but I'm too lazy to put 'em on paper.

Not that it matters right now... I've got 4 finished scripts and no camera to shoot 'em with. :(

The DJ is in Da House!!

*plays "Celebration" by Kool And The Gang*

Celebrate good times, come on! (Let's celebrate)

:emodanc:

Congratulations!

Now that's something off your back... but something heavier will take it's place in no time, don't worry

I have 2 years done and still 3 to go (extra year because I'm doing the coop thingy...)

It's celebration!

By the way, do you plan on staying in Dullottawa or transform and move out?

Congrats again!

For the moment, I'm looking for a new place in Ottawa. My best bet career-wise (if I wanna get into TV writing) suggests either Toronto (gods, no) or the west coast (either BC or LA), and I'm not ready to move that far yet (my entire family, such as it is, is clustered around eastern Ontario).

'Sides, I haven't yet given up hope on the brunette. Tryin' not to be hopeful, but there was no competition in evidence at either the ceremony nor the luncheon, nor mentioned as her further plans that day, and I'd like to think that any boyfriend worth his salt would at least be present for his girl's graduation. I don't want to leave if I have found the one single girl in all of Ottawa.

Hmm. . . She works too far away for lunch. . . would it be completely forward of me to suggest a movie. . . ?

Yes, but I also wanna maintain some sense of poise and dignity. Don't want to appear too desperate and scare her off.

Thus the whole concept of "flirting" replacing "club her and drag her to my hut" (or "shoot her and drag her to my spaceship" as someone once said ;) ).

As an aside: those of you who haven't yet, go see Dodgeball. It rocks, in a Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back kinda way. Plus it has Alan Tudyk as a pirate. Arrrr.
