MennoniteHobbit Posted June 13, 2004 Posted June 13, 2004 I just have a quick computer question... It started a while ago, everytime I opened and edited a file- pretty much any file, after I save it and browse the location of the file, my computer automatically makes a *.bak copy of it. It's not an exact copy mind you, it's barely half of the original file's size. This gets annoying as I don't want these *.bak files infesting my folders. How do I stop this?
MennoniteHobbit Posted June 13, 2004 Author Posted June 13, 2004 That picture was completely uncalled for. If you don't understand what I'm talking about and/or can't help me, then please don't post. I'm not a newbie, I know what an OS is. I have Windows 98SE.
Joetheeskimo Posted June 13, 2004 Posted June 13, 2004 Go to http://filext.com/ - it's a huge database of all the extensions in the world, in alphabetical order. Let's see: BAK -- Backup That means your computer is creating backups of your file. It's nothing to worry about. Other backup extensions include BAC, BCK and B~K. EDIT: TiE, if you can't help him, screw off and quit wasting his time and our thread space.
--ZeeMan-- Posted June 13, 2004 Posted June 13, 2004 yeah don't they disappear after a while anyways?
MennoniteHobbit Posted June 13, 2004 Author Posted June 13, 2004 Thanks for the info, joe. But they aren't exact backups, because like I said they're barely half the size of the original file. Is there any way I can stop my computer from making backups?

Poggle Posted June 13, 2004 Posted June 13, 2004 could have an auto back up easily changed in setup but by the sounds of things backup is a good thing
ET Warrior Posted June 14, 2004 Posted June 14, 2004 No need to get on TiE's case about the picture, not only is that my favorite picture from Ebaums world (I love teh bunnehs) but it explained that TiE didn't know how to answer his problem, and then he asked a question so as to further the likelihood of someone knowing how to fix it.
Joetheeskimo Posted June 14, 2004 Posted June 14, 2004 Yeah, backing up things isn't a bad thing, but if you want to rpevent it, I can't help you any further...
