Revan's mask is... Lord Mandalore's?

You know, one of the things in KotOR that is pretty much a mystery is Revan. In the few appearances that Darth Revan has throughout KotOR, he has an air of mystery around him. No witty banter when Bastila tells him that 'he cannot win', nor any explanation when Malak voices his complaints about the Star Forge. Amongst Revan's mysteries is that mask of his, and why he continues to wear it. A personal pet theory of mine was that it was some sort of custom from Revan's people or whatever. Granted, the best reason is the fact that the player would not be allowed to learn his true identity just yet when seeing his backstory.

... but that's not quite what I wish to discuss here. Awhile ago, I couldn't help but notice how Revan's mask seemed to be a bit inspired by the helmets that Palpatine's Royal Guards wear. Then I was later thinking how the helmets of the Royal Guards also seemed to resemble Lord Mandalore's mask in a way.

Then a little connection was made(duh :p)... Revan's mask seems to resemble that of Lord Mandalore. For those who are unaware of what Lord Mandalore's mask looks like, here's a picture from the Tales of the Jedi comic...

In comparison, here is a picture from a masked Darth Revan...

Granted, the masks don't completely fit. However, maybe the mask was changed a little when the new Lord Mandalore took the reigns, before beaten by Revan. Or a different intepretation on Bioware's part? Who knows?

In a way, this could fit IIRC, there's little that could work against it. Revan himself battled Lord Mandalore one-on-one and came out victorious. Perhaps he sees the mask as a personal prize, and kept it personally, making sure that the Mandalorians would never, *ever* rise as a grand, established army under one leader, thus resolving whatever problem they might cause when he would rise as the Sith. Perhaps he'd think that he could have the Mandalorians as his allies this way? Maybe he just thought it would look cool. Who knows? This is my theory, and I just might be sticking to it.

Any thoughts?

You know I've never thought about that but now, after reading your post, it sounds like a possibility. I guess in the end that it would have to be confirmed or denied by George Lucas or an offical spokesperson of his, but I think that it makes sense. Great idea btw.

Your right on Revans Mask looking Mandalorian Burrie. I also love the slightly ancient Egyptian look of the rest of Revan's outfit as well.

My opinion on Revans mask is, I think that Revan might have styled his/her mask from the Mandalorian designs because while leading the fight against the Mandalorians, Revan might have came to respect/understand their spirit, and possibly even some of their ways.

This might have led to the Mandalorian influence to the Masks design.

Interesting. I do see the similarities, & I think Revan would keep the mask as some sort of trophy (especially if started toward the DS at that point). Whether his is the real deal or not, who knows. But I'll jump on the boat & say he modeled his after Mandalore's.

Once again Burrie, this is some very intersting stuff, me not knowing all of this Star Wars stuff past the movies and KotOR, I found this very interesting because doesn't Canderous say that Mandalore was defeated by Revan, so it seems very possible that he took the mask as his prize. Thanks for the info.

interesting find Burrie. on your note it may be a possability that he took the mask as his first step onto a new path (the dark side) or he took it because this was his first oponent that he felt was a worthy adversary and so wanted to keep the trophy. i agree with everyone's ideas, they all seem waranted unless of course KOTOR 2 says otherwise.

Actually .. in studying comparisons of the mask .. has anyone thought that it just might be a very early version of the mandalorian helmet that boba fett actually wears. It looks somewhat similar .. though BF's has more dark visor in it running vertically.

Boba Fett's helmet (and armor) are infinitely cooler though. ;):D

Yeah, they do look somewhat similar, so maybe.

The Mandy's against the Republic Fleet Lead by Revan and Malak,I guess Revan challenged the leader to a one vs one match, the loser dies and his army never rises again.Soo i guess he won he took the mask and he got corrupted :D So it begins . . .

Earlier, don't you mean later, Jango is far from the KotOR time period, and the helmet Boba wears is Jango's.

Um .. no .. I believe Jango is from the period where the Republic falls and the Galactic Empire starts. And KotOR takes place 4000 years before the Galactic Empire.

Unless I'm missing something about Jango

From just before. The Republic is on the down swing, but he doesn't make it to the bottom.

No it's not! Have you not played TSL? Have you somehow managed not to meet Canderous (Mandalore) in TSL? Have you not seen his helmet? Does the helmet not look different than Revan's mask? Did Canderous not tell you how he recovered the helmet of the old Mandalore (the helmet that he now wears)?

You think about these questions.
