elTee
As some of you may remember, I posted a little game about 9 months ago known as the Super Cool Rip Off (search the forum - it's true!) For those who don't know or remember, it's very simple. I made an mp3 of famous movie tunes, blended together, and the simple aim was to identify the movie the tune was from, and for a bonus point the composer too. Well, the game is back! This time it's bigger, longer and harder. There's an additional 6 minutes worth of music in this one, bringing the total length to just over 17 minutes. There's just shy of 30 themes for you to identify, with a new addition - dialogue chunks! There are 5 sections of dialogue, where you need to identify the movie the dialogue is from and if you want, the actor who spoke the line. I won't lie to you, this one is harder than last time - not all the music is obvious, but I guarantee most of you will have seen at least 8 of the movies they're from, and you should all be able to spot at least 3 of the themes. I know a lot of you like movies a lot, so between you you should be able to get them all. Anyway, it might be nice to listen to anyway, even if you don't want to play the game at all To make it easier to identify each tune, they're numbered - but the dialogue sections aren't. For example, a section could be: 9. Star Wars (John Williams) --dialogue-- (Indiana Jones) 10. Superman (John Williams) etc. Download the mp3 here! (15MB) Good Luck!! --update-- As the game is now in full swing, here is a list of the current answers: (don't highlight if you still want to play the game for yourself) Current scores: Alien: 21 Joshi: 18 Scabb: 13 1. Thrik
I'm going to refrain from participating this since I can name pretty much everyone with ease and it'd just ruin the game. Nice work on the medley though.
elTee
I should point out the reason that Thrik can name every track with ease is because we share tastes in music and swapped every mp3 we had a while back - it's not incredibly easy or anything
ptdc
I'd take a look, but this looks like it involves effort. I'll give it a miss.

Joshi
As a first time player of this game, but an all time lover of movies and soundtracks, I should enjoy this. I'm happy that the tunes aren't too interspersed and you can tell when one ends and another begins. So here we go. 1. '007: On Her Majesty's Secret Service' by John Barry 2. 'Titanic' by James Horner 3. 'A Beautiful Mind' by James Horner, again. 4. No Idea 5. 'Crocodile Dundee' by Peter Best 6. 'Shrek 2' sung by Jennifer Saunders, but considering it's a sort of remake, would I be right in thinking the composer would be John Powell (although the CD says arranged by Harry Gregson Williams) 7. 'Hook' by John Williams 8. 'The Rock' by Nick Glennie-Smith, Hans Zimmer and Harry Gregson-Williams 9. 'Spider-Man' by Danny Elfman 10. 'Mars Attacks!' again, by Danny Elfman (you can tell he has a style) Dialogue: 'Withnail And I' (Richard E. Grant as Withnail) 11. Beauty and the Beast by Alan Menken and the late Howard Ashman 12. I keep thinking 'Gladiator' by Hans Zimmer and Lisa Gerrard, but it could be 'Master and Commander, blahblahblah', by Christopher Gordon 13. 'Dracula' by Wojiech Kilar 14. Nope 15. Nadda 16. 'Kill Bill Vol. 1' Al Hirt Dialogue: Die Hard (Alan Rickman as Hans Gruber) 17. 'Frankenstein' by Patrick Doyle Dialogue: 'The Big Lebowski' (Jeff Bridges as Jeff Lebowski, David Huddleston as Jeffrey Lebowski) 18. 'Gremlins' (classic!) by Jerry Goldsmith 19. 'Belleville Rendezvous' by Ben Charest 20. I can't believe I didn't get that straight away. 'Pirates of the Caribbean, The Curse of the Black Pearl' by Klaus Badelt 21. 'A Clockwork Orange' by Ludwig van Beethoven, Wendy Carlos 22. Home Alone (John Williams) Dialogue: 'Tremors' (Finn Carter as Rhonda LeBeck, Fred Ward as Earl Bassett) 23. 'Minority Report' by John Williams 24. 'Leon' by Eric Serra 25. 'Backdraft' by Hans Zimmer 26. Can't quite get that. Dialogue: 'Monty Pythons Life Of Brian' Terry Jones as Brian's mother
elTee
Okay, here we go... Current champion Alien has done very well again, and newcomer Joshi has also scored high: 1. On Her Majesty's Secret Service - Main Theme (John Barry) - Alien, Joshi, Scabb 2. Titanic - Leaving Port (James Horner) - Alien, Joshi 3. A Beautiful Mind - Cracking the Russian Codes (James Horner) - Joshi 4. Jude - Beautiful Days (Adrian Johnson) - Scabb 5. Crocodile Dundee - Main Theme (Peter Best) - Alien, Joshi 6. Shrek 2 - Holding on For a Hero (Harry Gregson-Williams / Jennifer Saunders) - Alien, Joshi, Scabb 7. Hook - Hook-napped (John Williams) - Alien, Joshi 8. The Rock - Rockhouse Jail (Hans Zimmer) - Alien, Joshi 9. Spiderman - Opening Titles (Danny Elfman) - Alien, Joshi, Scabb 10. Mars Attacks - Opening Titles (Danny Elfman) - Alien, Joshi, Scabb --soundbite-- Withnail & I - Alien, Joshi 11. Beauty & The Beast - Transformation (Alan Menkin) - Joshi, Scabb 12. King Arthur - Another Brick In Hadrians Wall (Hans Zimmer) - Scabb 13. Bram Stoker's Dracula - Vampire Hunters (Wojciech Kilar) - Alien, Joshi 14. ???? 15. ???? 16. Green Hornet Theme / Kill Bill Volume 1 (Al Hirt) - Alien, Joshi, Scabb --soundbite-- Die Hard - Alien, Joshi, Scabb 17. Mary Shelley's Frankenstein - To Think Of A Story (Patrick Doyle) - Alien, Joshi --soundbite-- The Big Lebowski - Alien, Joshi, Scabb 18. Gremlins - Gremlins Theme (Danny Elfman) - Alien, Joshi 19. The Triplets of Belleville - Belleville Rendezvous - Joshi, Scabb (Benoît Charest) 20. Mission Impossible 2 - Bare Island (Hans Zimmer) - Joshi 21. A Clockwork Orange - March From A Clockwork Orange - (arranged by Walter Carlos) - Alien, Joshi 22. Home Alone - Somewhere In My Memory (John Williams) - Alien, Joshi, Scabb --soundbite-- Tremors - Alien, Joshi 23. ???? 24. Leon - The Fight (Part 3) - The Big Weapon (Eric Serra) - Alien, Joshi 25. Backdraft - Fighting 17th (Hans Zimmer) - Alien, Joshi 26. ???? --soundbite-- Monty Python's Life Of Brian - Alien, Joshi, Scabb So as you can see, there are still seven themes unnacounted for, see if you can spot them. Although Joshi has the most correct answers, I'm guessing he was just updating Alien's list because the wrong answers were present on both, so until I know I'd say Alien is in the lead. Good luck! scabb
1. The all-new James Bond film! 2. It's familiar. Can I have a point? 3. I like this. Also familiar, but my memory FAILS. 4. Sounds like the Pirates of the Caribbean theme, although I'm pretty sure nothing this tinkly would be in Pirates of the Caribbean. So I'll go with "Hawk the Slayer", for no reason whatsoever. 5. Australian! Totally. Therefore it must be Neighbours: The Movie. 6. Shrek 2! Hurrah 7. Cuss. John Williams, Harry Potter? 8. Pirates of the Carribbean! Although actually not. The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride! 9. Spider-man theme, Elfman ;D 10. And Mars Attacks! Total roll! Dial Og: God knows! 11. Beauty and the Beast. I win. 12. Master & Commander? I haven't seen it, but this sounds recent and triumphant-ocean-cruise-esque. 13. Yes. 14. I would remember this if I'd seen the film. Maybe. 15. The Green Hornet, theme to the TV show "The Green Hornet". Also in Kill Bill. And was the end credits for recent BBC sitcom "The Worst Week of my Life", which wasn't bad. Die-log: Hee Hee. Die Hard. 16. No. Dialogue: The Big Lebowski ;D 17. Maybe. 18. The Triplets of Belleville/Rendezvous/Something-or-other. Didn't know you'd seen this, Tones. 'Tis good! Although you still haven't seen Spirited Away yet, which also has an excellent soundtrack. >: 19. La-la-la. 20. Eine Kleine whatever rearrangement. Don't know the film. 21. Home Alone! Tee. Then the choir join in! Send plz. ;D Dialogue Unknown! 22. Erm, Pirates of the Caribbean. 23. Pirates of the Caribbean! 24. Hawk the Slayer's rubbish! No, I mean, Pirates of the Caribbean. 25. This one is Pirates of the Caribbean, too! Dialogue: Some Monty Python RUBBISH.

Good luck! Damn, I was hoping no one would notice, but that's what happends when you cheat by copying, you get the same wrong answers to. Saying that I can't prove I knew most of the ones already done by alien, but I did (with, of course, a few exceptions) know a lot of them. At a count, I actually knew 17 tunes and all the dialogue ( although as a major cheater in the Empire movie quotes quiz, it is very easy to type the dialogue out, throw them inbetween quotes and Google them. even with their 10 word quote limit, it generally works, I did that on a good couple here, but knew the rest ). of course i'm not expecting you to take my word on that. Hmm, so not Pirates of the caribbean for 20 then. I guess I was caught in some kind of devil trap. I so know that tune though! It's awsome. But yeah, at the time, I couldn't place it to any scene in the movie for some reason. So yeah, I guess I was wrong.
elTee
Okay nice one Joshi, I've updated the scores at the top of the page. And everyone assumes there has to be a Pirates of the Caribbean theme in there somewhere (Scabb) - I can't think why... Track 20 is one of the harder ones to guess, because the movie is associated with another much more famous theme. Similarly, I don't think many people will have seen the movie the music in track 4 is from, it's not well known and very underrated. It took me an age to find the soundtrack to it. Track 12 is from a new movie, still in theatres, that I really love. If you check my blog there's a post in which I give the movie a rave review, so you can find it out that way. Track 14 is from one of the highest grossing movies of all time, and track 15 is from one of the more succesful thrillers of the mid-90's. Judging from the guesses, I think you'll all be surprised at the movie that track 23 is from. And I can't really offer any help with track 26, as I haven't seen the movie, and thrik sent me the mp3. If you want some clues, uncover the spoiler below. 4. Thomas Hardy, The (new) Doctor, and "my heart will go on" 12. Merlin might be able to help you with this 14. "what happened to the goat??" 15. Its not the Blue December, but where is it? 20. The biggest grin in Hollywood does the impossible - again! 23. Bruce Willis comedy, you'll kill yourself laughing 26. By James Horner - thats all I can offer you. Though, whoever gets the answer will no doubt revel in their Glory.
scabb
4. It's Jude, although I got it from the clues :~ 12. King Arthur, then? I think you may have mentioned you'd included it in IRC, though, so I'm cheating. 14. Fahrenheit 9/11 ?? Nah, can't be. 20. Minority Report! I, Robot! Etc! 23. Bruce Willis, Comedy, Armageddon! 26. Troy? Total guess.
elTee
You got 4 and 12, you devil, but the rest are still up for grabs. 2 more points to Scabb! I have to point out, the soundtrack to Jude is one of the best ever made, and it's really rare. If anyone sees it in HMV in a sale or something, I'd advise you to snap it up. So here's the list so far: 1. On Her Majesty's Secret Service - Main Theme (John Barry) - Alien, Joshi, Scabb 2. Titanic - Leaving Port (James Horner) - Alien, Joshi 3. A Beautiful Mind - Cracking the Russian Codes (James Horner) - Joshi 4. Jude - Beautiful Days (Adrian Johnson) - Scabb 5. Crocodile Dundee - Main Theme (Peter Best) - Alien, Joshi 6. Joshi
Okay, so I sent Lucastones a rather desperate PM about number 20 because I needed to know it and told him I wouldn't play anymore if he told me. About three seconds after sending it, i figured it out and told him to forget the last PM and then told him the answer. But now I'm confused, should I tell everyone the answer to 20? Or am I still out of the game and so should just keep quiet and let everyone else guess? you be the Judge (I don't mind either way)
