The Phantom Menace

Phan´tom

Noun 1. phantom - a ghostly appearing figure; "we were unprepared for the apparition that confronted us"

Men´ace

Noun 1. menace - something that is a source of danger; "earthquakes are a constant threat in Japan"

...Well there is a new threat, the Sith who have come out of the darkness to begin their takeover, but the Jedi don't know what it is that's exactly happening in Episode 1. Hence, the title is The Phantom Menace There is a threat from the sith which is hidden to the Jedi and is only really found out about at the end or near the end.

i think the Phantom Menace fits well, as Lynk says it means an elusive threat. and thats exactly what the sith, namely Palpatine are. he's scheming the downfall of the republic right under the noses of the jedi, yet they are blind to it.

GL has made no secret of his love of old TV and radio serials and the fact that they influenced him into doing star wars.

now "the phantom something" is a classic title of an episode of a serial. for instance the old radio serial 'The Shadow' the word 'Phantom' was in many episode titles.

in fact I think the shadow serials was the direct influence for the star wars titles as you can see many similarities...

The something Strikes Back

The Attack of the something

The Return of the something

all these crop up in the Shadow's titles.

its not only star wars that follows that trend but indiana jones too. the movies and the t'v show both have titles that represent old TV and radio serials

You post a thread asking about what the Phantom Menace is supposed to mean, we give you the answer and then you say we have too much time. THEN you edit your original posts asking another stupid question, trying to make it look like we went directly offtopic and you're saying WE scare YOU?

Heh, buddy, think you might wanna get that monkey brain exchanged for a human brain...

Thread closed, you really are an idiot... and I don't care if you think that's a flame, tis a valid opinion from what I've seen so far.
