mybleedinheart
So sierra has announced Leisure Suit Larry Magna Cum Laude. If this particular game is staying true to its form it will fall within the realm of graphic adventures. Not to mention a comedic adult cartoon graphic adventure. Now lets go out on a limb here and say the game actually does well... Do you think that it may light a fire underneath LA? How could lucas arts not try and launch some competion for LSL when theyre just sitting on a mostly finished game of similar style. Perhaps we'll see Sam n Max after all.... maybe..... probably not. Udvarnoky
Originally posted by mybleedinheart probably not. There ya go. Sigh. I'm going to go into a serious S&M2 discussion once more. Even if Leisure Suit Larry sells unbelievably well, LucasArts will not revive Freelance Police. Besides the fact that they're inherently evil, there's also the fact that they've shut down a lot of their internal development. Then there's the fact that Mike Stemmle as well as a good bit of the team (if not all of it by now, what with the massive layoffs), have been fired. So unless LucasArts sells the resources to some other developer (which of course won't happen), there's no way to complete the game. That and LucasArts still won't be willing to shell out the necessary money to properly market the damned game. Nah, it ain't gonna happen. Of course it's a good thing for us if Larry does sell well, because it will show more than just LucasArts that adventure games have a market (though the new Larry isn't 100% adventure) and will help to ensure a future for our beloved genre. Samnmax221
I don't think it will sell well since it can only be sold to people over 18 and who aren't offendede by that sort of humor.

Samnmax221
See the trailer! Its not an adventure its a bunch of strung together minigames
mybleedinheart
i recently checked it out at the local video game store (the box that its) and to my dismay...yas it is just a bunch of dumb minigames. How do they go from LSL7 which was really good to this crap? and apparently this new "larry" is like the nephew to th REAL larry. horrid thats all. Skinkie
You have to remember that alot of adventure game companies are keeping an eye on this to see if it sells well, for some reason they think it would be a sign of returning adventure market. Also there was an interview with the team Making LSL8 (I think it was on IGN) where the writers mentioned that they just wnt this game to sell well so they can make a real adventure game style sequal to it. They're really just a bunch of fan boys and this was the only was they saw to revitalize the series. Give them a chance.
Udvarnoky
Skinkie's correct. The sales of this game are going to determine how a lot of companies view the adventure game market. I know I'm buying a copy to support the cause.
Canine_Shamus
I'll probablyjust get the game 'cause it'll be funny... and there'll be digital boobies... not that I like digital boobies... heheheh.

SMNMX
Dave! Just wondering, but have you lost interest in our "project" in the other forums (which is okay, so don't feel bad if you have), or have you just not had time to post?

The series has a sizable following and this particular game may just appeal to a much wider market. I don't see how anyone can say they care about the future of the adventure genre and want this game to tank. Well it wouldn't be a SEQUEL seeing as how there was more than one of the games. I thought the game was pretty cheesy and didnt have all that much intellect but on the other hand it was fun as hell. You cant deny that sam n max has relied a bit on dick and fart jokes itself.

StonerDave&Max
@Anyone defending LSL - I hardly find a game similar to a simdate thing a good series, and the fact that it IS a series disturbs me. @smnmx - Work, school, drinking, friends. A lot of my time is tied up, so eh, time has been slim for that project. Plus, I work for a website now, so my online time has gone towards that. Either way, I lost the link so there wouldn't be anyway for me to get to it. @Udvarnoky - **** the future of video games. I barely have time for them anymore. And Sam & Max 2 will be released, just not by lucasarts. Probably wont be the same thing, but still a sequel none-the-less. @mybleedinheart - Dick and Fart jokes? Hardly. Sarcastic intellectua? Probably. @SyntheticGerbil - The past will send you bloody valentines, don't worry.
Skinkie
By comparing LSL to Simdate I becomes quite obvious that you've never played any of the games. As it is strictly and adventure game series (at least up to this point it has been). Nothing like the Sims.
SMNMX
Hmm.... well, Dave, if you ever have some free time, could you come on over and just comment on how we're doing (it's ok if you can't, as you sound busy)? P.S. the link is in the last post in the original thread in Anything and Everything.
Brodieman
Lesiure Suit Larry Magna Cum Laude is banned in Australia for it's "sexual" content, Manhunt was just banned for bbeing too violent, Vice City was cut down and censored for being too violent and i imagine if Sam N Max was released it'll be banned for cruelty to animals. The Lesiure Suit Larry series was awesome it was great adenture gaming! So many good memories of those games. If you didn't like them you just didn't get them, what were you lookign for porn in there? You'd be disappointed it you did. Lucasarts only want Star Wars games out, that's where the money is and that's what they want, their last hurrah was Grim Fandango since then it's been a slide into the Abyss. But you can't say that the idea of doing **** to look at cartoon tits is too normal, eh? I played the Sims for a few hours, so I barely can understand the comparison. Somehow I'd rather do mindless **** in real life than on a computer.
