Necroman
Well, well, I never thought I would write this, but here it is. I'm talking about the world beyond, the netherworld, underworld, limbo and heaven n' hell. What do you think? Just what is YOUR opinion(seriously)on life after death. Just what happens when you die, is it all over? Can you come back? And do you meet other people there? I know I sound like a bad radio subject, but I want to discuss this with other people, people who like the (un)dead. So...what do you think? James Isaac
*trying to sound intelligent* I think the question the question you should be asking is... 'what is life?' But seriously, I think there is nothing after life - it's all over. Being alive is just being able to make thoughts in your brain, so when you die, your brain stops, those thoughts are over, so you're dead... El Virus
I'm not such a religious person, but thinking about a life after death is a very relaxing thing. I don't know what all the fuss is about death, I'm not so afraid of it, either you die and it's all over, or there's another world which would be very nice to see. I'm not a curious person, but this is the only thing I wonder about. It would really be nice if there's a world like GF, but who knows. There's a proverb that says: "We are afraid to live and scared to die" And another one which says "The first breath is the beginning of death"
Thrik
I've always considered a rather hellish possibility, myself. Just imagine that if, when you die, you are simply left with your thoughts for eternity. There's nothing to see, touch or do - just pure darkness. All you can do is just.. think. As if you'd just closed your eyes and were sat there thinking, except you can't open them again. It may be okay at first, thinking about all your past and such, but before long it would get so tormenting it'd be beyond comprehension. Even worse, there would be no way to end it - you couldn't just end your life like you could if you were locked in an unlit room for years upon years. There is no escape. Doesn't sound too nice does it?

VampireNaomi
You scare me Thrik. What you just described has been my worst fear for years. I personally like to believe in reincarnation. If I screw up in this life I get a chance to try again in the next one. However, as a Christian I should probably like the idea of Heaven more. I don't know... I guess we only know when it's our time. Go on JofaGuht! I'm interested.
Necroman
I like your idea Thrik, even if you sound like LeChuck when you said I've always considered a rather hellish possibility, myself. But I think you inspired your point of view from Metallica - one. And what you said is olso a bit unscientific, I mean how can you think about your life when your brain is rotting. Thrik
Never heard that song, I've just thought about this quite a bit in the past. My idea may be unscientific, but so is the idea of you going to heaven. Reincarnation is probably the most viable other option in that you wouldn't retain your (rotting) memories, instead only the living soul would be reused - something that apparently isn't physical. anomalousresult
I'm not religious and having read a few of the previous replies i hope not to repeat anyone: essentially, i believe that considering how crap humankind is (typified most by that line in the original matrix where agent smith compares humankind to a virus) there must be something better. Whether or not this results in the existence of an afterlife or not is another matter, nobody's ever come back to tell me, as it were, and being the ultimate sceptic i don't believe in something until it's shown to me. so i'm useless aren't i. El Virus
If there's an after-life such as GF's, and you have the chance of doing what ever you want (Take the Number 9, Road travel, ship, staying in El Marrow, etc.) What would you do? I'd like to either take a road trip through the Land Of the Dead, or staying in any city.
VampireNaomi
I'd stay in Rubacava until I found the love of my afterlife, and then we would take the rest of the journey together. Or something like that.
El Virus
Seems nice, thought I'd really like to stay in Rubacava and start any business or in el Marrow, and get a job
Sanspoof
Being of Wiccan religion, I believe in something that could be considered very complicated, so here's a sort of explanation: When you die, it is true that your brain stops functioning and your body fails to work any more. But, due to some kind of science which we of this world are unable to comprehend, it is possible to remove the soul of the deceased from their corpse (It's also possible to remove their soul while they're still alive but it's not recommended for their soul and your karma). With the soul no longer connected to the corpse, you become a manifestation of what fits you - your personality, thoughts, beliefs, everything that's a part of you that no one can see. But, since you've just got out of your body you are still in the realm you and I are in now, although you are unable to interact with anything that's there, and vice-versa. That means there's no gravity, no laws of physics, you can't talk to or touch people. It's extremely complicated, but there's no point trying to understand things we really shouldn't until it's time. Of course, this is where we get the idea of ghosts from. Somehow a soul is capable of being seen, manifested even, in this realm. It's a spooky thought, but in a way not totally impossible. And that's it. Everything from then on nobody knows about or really needs to know about. And that's what I believe happens to you when you 'die'. JofaGuht
This is how I explain ghosts (take a seat, this will take awhile). I have read about parapsychology and acknowledged the existence of ghosts. From the strange happenings at Lemp Mansion here in STL, they've got all these gadgets to sense waves and activity where it doesn't belong. We've all been to that one house where we "sense" another presence in the room when no one is there, and have even shows the presence of ectoplasm. So I agree with the possibilty of ghosts. Now I don't believe in the soul, I believe our identity and conscience is completely neurological and not supernatural at all. So how do I explain these odd presences? After thinking about it a little, I came to the conclusion it had to do with psychic residue. It's the whole relativity thing, everybody has a unique energy that is different than any other. When you pick up a glass, your energy is on that glass, but when you put it back down and let go of it, some of your energy is still on that glass. So what if in certain circumstances more energy is released and more residue is caused. The ones who are considered ghosts always seemed to have the most unforunate lives, right? Dying in a state of complete fear, etc. Fear causes more of that energy to be released and dying in fear probably releases a helluva lot more. So think about it: that extremely large amount of energy residue can cause you to sense another presence, and perhaps gain energy to do things (throw stuff around, condense some air and the like) and resemble a ghost. Even more philisophically, what if that residue was able to assume a sort of awareness? Creepy huh.
El Virus
Nice theory. A couple of years ago, I used to read and watch programs about ghost, death, mysteries, etc. But unfortunately the channel (which used to be very prestigious at my country) started removing those shows, which belonged to US and Europe, as my country's financial situation went bad, so I got more interested on history and geography. Still I'm very interested in death, consider I want to become a Forensic Scientist once I grow up, not too far from now.
Shuz
In reponse to the question about what you would do in the Land of the Dead, I would probably start a (dead) life in El Marrow and just experience the LotD for a while and like VampireNaomi, hope to find the love of my death and go to the Ninth Underworld together. Either that or hang around the Blue Casket and write avant garde poetry.

They don't have to body parts to eat or smoke a cigarette either, but they do those things in the game. That enough disbelief for me to be able to suspend...especially when sex is involved. Then the concept will definitely be plausible no matter what. .

El Virus
As I awnt to become a forensic scientist, my view of death is not going to be anything rather than the professional and technical view, as much relaxing I find thinking of another world after death, I really found it hardly possible to happen.
