Lord Exor
What happened to the Imperial Officer? Did they omit him from the final version? And no rebel spy? They really did rush this game for a release on Sep. 21.
Kurgan
They were removed for whatever reason. I don't know of the rush was the reason for removing them, since it may have taken just as much if not more work for their replacements. The rush job is evident in the many bugs and general network instability of the game, plus the omission of many standard modern FPS features from this release (we're guessing). It could be they were simply removed for the sake of gameplay balance. Perhaps you're right, perhaps in testing they ran into problems and didn't have the time to balance them properly for release. We'll see what happens in the coming months...
TK-8252
Here's what happened (SWBF history lesson!): When the game was early and the only factions that were really in the works were Imperials and Rebels, this is what the units were: Rebels Rebel Soldier - Blaster Rifle - Blaster Pistol - Thermal Detonators Rebel Vanguard - Missile Launcher - Blaster Pistol - Mine Dispenser Rebel Pilot - Blaster Pistol - Haywire (EMP) Grenades - Fusioncutter Rebel Marksman - Sniper Rifle - Blaster Pistol - Thermal Detonators Wookiee Smuggler - Bowcaster - Blaster Pistol - Health & Ammo Dispenser Bothan Spy Equipment was never released, but supposedly the Bothan Spy had an "advanced" blaster pistol, demolitions kit, and the ability to disguise himself as a Stormtrooper. Imperials Stormtrooper - Blaster Rifle - Blaster Pistol - Thermal Detonators Shock Trooper - Missile Launcher - Blaster Pistol - Mine Dispenser Imperial Pilot - Blaster Pistol - (Grenades?) - Fusioncutter Scout Trooper - Sniper Rifle - Blaster Pistol - Thermal Detonators Imperial Officer - Blaster Pistol - Orbital Strikes - Health & Ammo Dispenser Dark Trooper - Blast Cannon - Blaster Pistol - Thermal Detonators Originally, each faction had six units, with two "Unique" units. They also only had three weapons. The first Unique unit for each faction (Wookiee Smuggler, Imperial Officer) was going to be the one with the Health & Ammo Dispenser. But, then when the Clone War factions came along, they didn't know what to make for CIS to carry the Health & Ammo Dispenser. At first, they made the Droid Pilot be able to repair fellow droids with a "Repair Kit" which never went into much detail. Then they scrapped that and just gave the Droid Pilot the Health & Ammo Dispenser. So, to balance all the Pilot classes, they all had to be given the Health & Ammo Dispenser. This means the Imperial Officer would lose one of his major duties. Then, to balance the Pilot with every other unit, all other units will need a fourth weapon. This means the addition of concussion grenades for Infantrymen, thermal detonators for Heavy Weapons units, and a "special" item for Snipers. The Rebel Marksman was going to have the Bothan Spy's ability to disguise as a Stormtrooper. The Assassin Droid was going to have the Imperial Officer's old Orbital Strikes. But then when it came to making a special item for Clone Sharpshooters, they had no idea. So, they decided to give all Sniper units a Recon Droid. The Recon Droid now issues the Orbital Strikes, meaning that's another lost duty for the Imperial Officer. Now, all the Imperial Officer can do is use a blaster pistol and discover spies. Not much of a unit, eh? Some time during all of this, the devs were having issues with memory, according to Bobby's Helmet, a dev who used to post at LucasForums. To fix this, they had to remove the Bothan Spy. Well, that means the Imperial Officer has nothing to do. This calls for the removal of one Unique unit from each faction, bringing the factions down to five units. There was also going to be a Clone Officer unit for the Republic, which would mirror the Imperial Officer. He suffered the same fate after very little action. Alegis
And i believe they were taken out in january. Thats 7-8 months prior to release. So exclude "rush" from your list
Kurgan
Interesting reporting there guys, good job. I don't have an Xbox... so are any of those missing or different units in the demo included with the OT DVD box-set?

Jet Black
Depending on the future success of this game, these are all things that have either "Patch" or "Expansion Pack" written all over them
RebelScum!
Yeah. I'm hoping for more types of soldier to choose from.
Pho3nix
Me too. Instead of removing the 6th special class, they should add more/different abilities.
